The first case of Covid-19 was detected in NYC one year ago today. It was a health care worker who had returned from Iran. We on this coast were looking at things happening on the other coast, but it was this day, a year ago when all hell would break loose and New York would become the first epicenter of death, destruction, and sadness in our nation.
“We don’t have a timeline for this crisis,” Mayor Bill de Blasio announced at the time. “I think people should assume it will be with us for months, and we’re going to be in a high state of readiness as long as it’s here.”

Months turned into a year of tremendous loss and monumental changes. Now, this unchartered period is met with plenty of hope.

Four million doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine are ready to be shipped Monday. It’s the nation’s first single-dose shot.
A year has been lost to so many forever. So many lives gone. Life is altered forever. I don't know what the new "normal" will be but I am relieved that help is - finally - on the way.

I just want to stop feeling afraid of trying to live my life with freedom and safety.

Good morning, bloggers!!!!

It has been a very rough year for our nation and our world. I have to wonder what our lives would be like if we had a government that would have taken the pandemic seriously. Many Americans would be alive and we perhaps could have helped other countries limit the impact of the pandemic.

History will judge this past year harshly.

Boston was still hanging on by a fingernail.

The Biogen Conference had already happened; but cases were ramping up and by this time all the tourist venues had already started closing and limiting hours.

March 13, 2020 is when we ceased to exist here. (Everything shut down, many things never re-opened and never will.)

My school sent students home early on March 13, 2020. On March 16, 2020, teachers gathered in their rooms to create some emergency online lessons for the period prior to spring break.

Teachers in my district have been in the building and out of the building. A brief attempt at hybrid learning resulted in a spread of COVID-19 infections.

It's hard to fathom the past 12 months.
