Why French? Because it's cool to like France again!

Not only that, with the ringing in of the year 2009, it is officially cool to be smart again, to like science, the environment, to question, to ask for accountability, to hope, to believe in the spirituality of your own choosing, oh -- the list can go on. Basically... We geeks and political wonks are COOL AGAIN! Our long national nightmare is over!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

http://www.livingroom.org.au/photolog/fireworks-5.jpg

Bob and I were lucky enough to have the Clinster's over last night for an impromptu New Year's eve celebration. It was a lovely evening, filled with ringing out a tired old 2008 and welcoming in the year of hope and change. Oh yes, and Champahnia... and merengue cookies, and the Good Doctor Maddow... Ah good times, good times.

I would like to thank everyone of our family at Four Freedoms, and all of our readers and future family members, and wish you all a wonderful new year. No one knows what it will bring, but one thing we can count on is that as long as we have shoulders and ears of friends, we will get thru this year as we have every year. The laughter (and the tears) along the way are the things that make it all worthwhile, and I thank you all for being a part of my life.

If I may take a moment, I would like to put a special thank you out there to Bobber...
I love you babe, and marrying you was the best decision of my life. Ok... enough of the romantic platypus' -- err.... platitudes....

So let's raise a cup of coffee, or lady Gray Tea (the Official Tea of FourfreedomsBlog™ ), and toast to the first morning of the new year. It is truly a wonderous thing!

:peace: and
Raine

Bon Matin mes amis. The cold kept me under the covers this morning. Oh, how I hate winter.

It's good to finally see the Warner Bros. cartoons on TV again. They haven't run on Cartoon Network or Boomerang in a year and a half.

Happy new year y'all! We have an official tea? Cool! Loony Toons? :rummages for remote:

I hope they show a bunch of the politically incorrect ones.

Comment by livingonli on 01/01/2009 17:20:52
Don't count on them showing the politically incorrect ones. Even if they show the Mountie one, they will cut the end where they sing I wish I was in Dixie.

Yeah ! Back to French fries- I was so sick of the freedom fries- they were so 2008.

So, who's going to watch the Outdoor Hockey Game from Wrigley Field at 1 PM. Yankee Stadium was in contention at one point but with the variable weather it would have been a question mark. Although today it is cold enough to play hockey outside.

Heya Raine, BobR, and all other 4Fers.

I can only echo Raine's sentiment - this blog has gotten me through what has, at times anyway, been a pretty rough year for me. But I am sitting here in my living room watching the Rose Bowl Parade with my friend (formerly grrrl friend - we are still trying to work things out ) Here's hoping that you ALL have a wonderful 2009 and all the best in life and love and other things that matter

Cheers,

mfaye

Ah, I'm on the lookout for the WWII ones; already seen a bunch with references to Berlin, Tokyo, war production, Frank Sinatra, etc....

Fun stuff!

Did Tex Avery do stuff with Warner Brothers? Now those would be pretty cool...

Yepper, Tex worked at Warner Bros.:

In 1935, Tex went to work at Warner Bros. where he created Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and created the personality of Bugs Bunny. He was with Warner from 1935-1941. During this time, he created animation that was a far cry from all the Disney imitators out there. Unlike Disney, Tex Avery's cartoons had their own personality. A disagreement with Leon Schlesinger led Tex to quit Warner in early 1941.

He directed the first "official" Bugs Bunny cartoon in 1940.

Hopefully my nephew and his friend enjoyed NYE in the Big Apple, though I suppose it was a bit colder than they're used to.

They're supposed to arrive via Amtrak at South Station tomorrow just after noon then they'll transfer to another train to get nearer to us - then I'll pick them up. If I'm lucky it's been impressed upon them that if I'm going to be getting up at 2AM on Saturday to take them to Logan (the flight's just after 5AM) they need to be on that first train out of there and not spend all night wandering around Boston again.

L Street Browies New Years Swim!

http://cache.boston.com/bonzai-fba/Globe_Photo/2009/01/01/polar1__1230837516_8665.jpg

About 500 people braved bone-chilling cold and savage winds to take a morning dip in Boston Harbor on New Year's Day, a 104-year-old tradition for the L Street Brownies.

Comment by livingonli on 01/02/2009 01:53:15
Since Cartoon Network cut the last minute and a half of it, here's the uncut version;
