The Elitists
Author: BobR    Date: 01/07/2009 13:14:03

The late great Ann Richards of Texas was one of the best at pointing out the elitist rich boy slackard that was Bush as governor with such lovely gems as "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth". Jim Hightower referred to King George I as "born on third base and thinks he hit a triple". That goes double for the son who partied his way through life and has always felt like he earned all the ruined opportunities continuously dropped into his lap his entire life.

Throughout the election, the Republicans tried to "taint" Obama by calling him an "elitist". They tried to convince the electorate that the man with one house in a Chicago neighborhood was out of touch, while the man with 9 houses spread throughout the country was a regular "Joe".

And yet - the truth always has a way of showing us what a bunch of hypocritical scumbags these Republican "leaders" really are...

Bush's legacy will be one of incompetence and inaction. Even as the Middle East melted down yet again, it was the presidents of France and Egypt that sprang into action, trying to hammer out an agreement to at least just stop the bloodshed. Bush, naturally had little to say or do, and when he finally spoke up, he blamed it all on Hamas, as if Israel with it's 100/1 ratio for retaliation was somehow the innocent victim.

Obama, reiterating his stance that "there is only one president at a time" has refrained from saying anything thus far. He has however, vowed to say plenty after the inauguration:
US president-elect Barack Obama Tuesday vowed to speak out about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict once he takes office, but insisted until then only President George W. Bush speaks for the US.

"After January 20 I am going to have plenty to say about the issue and I am not backing away at all from what I said during the campaign, that ... at the beginning of our administration, we are going to engage effectively and consistently in trying to resolve the conflict that existed in the Middle East," he told reporters.

"Until then, my job is to monitor the situation, put together the best possible national security team so that we hit the ground running once we are responsible for national security issues," said the incoming president.

Not unlike the CEOs of the companies being bailed out after they've run their companies into the ground, Bush continues to act entitled to anything he wants, including gates on the road to his Dallas home:
Just like his father, President George W. Bush will return to Texas when he leaves office.

And just like his father, he wants a gate to be installed along a public street to limit access to his neighborhood.

Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm confirmed Monday that the younger Bush is seeking to have a gate placed somewhere along the entrance to streets leading to his future Preston Hollow address.

Apparently, he doesn't think that Obama deserves anywhere near that level of respect. It's pretty well known that Bush claimed that the Blair House in DC was booked before Obama's inauguration. Thus, Obama and family have to sleep in the manger a hotel until Bush finally gets his do-nothing ass out of the People's House. It's been revealed, however, that "booked" was pretty much an out-and-out lie, and one person is staying there for one night:
The only overnight visitor at the presidential guest manse is none other than John Howard, a former Australian prime minister and leading member of President Bush's coalition of the willing in Iraq.

Howard and his entourage will be bunking at Blair House on Jan. 12, the night before he, former British prime minister Tony Blair and Colombian President Álvaro Uribe are to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Bush, said Sally McDonough, a spokeswoman for first lady Laura Bush.

So Bush willfully (and for no good reason) forced Obama to stay in a hotel.

One other story along this theme that's gotten a lot of press. The Bidens were turned away from a movie theatre because the movie was sold out:
He's a heartbeat away from the presidency, but that apparently didn't help Joe Biden get a movie ticket Saturday night.

Employees at the Regal Brandywine Cinemas say the vice president-elect and his wife, Jill, tried to attend the 7:45 showing of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" at the theater on Concord Pike but left after they were told the movie was sold out.

Can you imagine if Bush had been treated the way he treated Obama? Can you imagine him being turned away at the box office? Can you imagine Obama asking for security gates to be put up in his neighborhood? While Bush does nothing and expects everything, Obama and Biden quietly prepare to fix the mess Bush has created and shrug off the little (and big) indignities that come their way.

An elitist in the pejorative sense is one who feels a sense of superiority and entitlement. It's pretty obvious who fits THAT description and who doesn't.

13 days...

Morning

I think it's been the local news here that said that the Obama's couldn't stay at Blair house because of parties and that's only come about in the last week. It's ridiculous and disrepectful that a man who will be the President on our country in 13 days is being set aside for parties by the diplomatic corps and a foreign head of state.

Comment by TriSec on 01/07/2009 13:35:16
Morning, comrades!

Ya know, this whole Blair House thing is really pissing me off.

What, did Bush not know the inauguration is January 20? Did he forget that his two terms were up and a new guy was taking over?

Malicious premeditation, pure and simple.

And as Keith pointed out last night, Blair House has 119 rooms, 35 of which are bathrooms. I'm sure John Howard and the Obamas could share for one night.

And that "elitist" meme fits in well with that, too. Blair House is already inside a DC security bubble....but the hotel where the Obamas are staying is not. So forcing the Secret Service to disrupt a business and neighborhood in the name of security fits right in with the way Bush acts.

Gah!

Comment by Random on 01/07/2009 13:43:21
As a general comment, well two actually.

While Bush was a dick to Obama, lets not forget that normally the President-Elect doesn't get to go into the Blair house till usually 5 days before hand, So lets all stop pretending Obama was entitled to it. Unless of course you're Ronald Reagan, where you want the go into the White House before the 20th, but you'll take the Blair house early.

Second: Are we really bitching that Biden got turned away from a SOLD OUT movie? does he deserve some extra shit cause he's VP-Elect? Now I understand you're point about if it were Bush, he wouldn't be turned away. But people like Bush also have theaters in their homes, where they can actually buy a reel to watch it if they really want to.

To that point I don't think Biden should get special treatment, nor should Bush. Because if Biden were let in..someone would have to have been kicked out...probably several people for his wife...and secret service...and the ones who look shady...come on...

Comment by TriSec on 01/07/2009 13:51:01
No, I don't think Bob was whining about Biden being turned away. Biden in all likelihood said "oh well" and went home. Bush would have thrown a tantrum and demanded to be let in, I'm sure.

I would think the Obamas have a different scenario than Reagan or any other incoming president in that they have school-age children that they wanted to get started and settled in for the calendar year.

Whether or not they're "entitled" to the Blair House as you put it, there's something else in play.

It's called "Common Courtesy", which is something the Bush White House in all it's arrogance has been decidedly lacking.

Comment by Random on 01/07/2009 14:01:24
One, I acknowledge that i understand Bob's point about Biden. But it still sounds like something stupid for anyone to put into print, because Biden probably just walked away. It was printed by someone hoping to make a controversy or something.

Second, I really don't care about the Blair House. Bush was an asshole. That isn't knew. What makes you think a man who's willing to lie about GIVING UP GOLF to honor those he sent to die, will give a damn about someone wanting to have an easier time transitioning his family into DC? This was a non-story in the first place. Obama asked, Bush said no, and everyone went on their way. Both man did exactly what was expected of them.

And I was mocking Reagan for being an arrogant prick.

Comment by BobR on 01/07/2009 14:02:31
Thanks Tri...

I had a little trouble getting my thoughts together into some sort of coherent narrative, but I didn't think it would be misinterpreted as "bitching" that Biden got turned away from the movie theatre...

Ya know - given his track record, I wouldn't expect Bush to act any differently. All I was doing was contrasting the class and expectations of the incoming Dems and the outgoing Bush. Are you trying to read more into it than is there?

on a separate note I may have a way around the whole miss spelling on my birth certificate.

A gentleman I work with who is Egyptian told me to just apply for my passport with the misspelling and fix it later. It's what he did when he had to get his since is name was spelled different on not only his BC but also his citizenship papers. It works for him so I'm gonna try it. Worse they can say is no.

Doesn't change the fact that set issues just annoy me because they're non-issues. Blair house is one of them to me.

Not that i don't understand you're comparison, and accept it.

P.S.

I know you weren't bitching about Biden not seeing a movie. But we know the reason that story was printed was to get people bitching about it. then it'll have others bitching about the people bitching. And of course people will read that article and think that the Biden's were seeking entitlement. Even though the story is nothing like that.

Have you read the comments?

Ron Asheton has left.

Ron Asheton, whose scorching and energetic guitar work behind singer Iggy Pop in the band The Stooges established a model of raw emotion for a succeeding generation of punk, grunge, and alternative rockers, has died. He was 60.

His body was discovered yesterday at his home in Ann Arbor, Mich., after his personal assistant had been unable to reach him. Police said it appeared he had been dead for several days and died of natural causes.

Good morning, bloggers!! Excellent post, BobR!!

Now, I have some breaking news for you on Nova M Radio.

Here is the news from the NEW general manager, Sean Ryan, who asked me to pass this along. Sean has previously worked as the production manager.

Everything is up and running as it should be for the network, so they can bring Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy on the air live.

Art Mobley is no longer the general manager of the Nova M Radio Network, effective of January 2, 2009. So, the station is under new management.

Good Horror doesn't seem up his alley - original Night of the Living Dead, Halloween, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street were good movies (well in my opinion) he's maybe the Rob Zombie remakes or House of a 1000 Corpses
