The Senate failed to change its filibuster rules to allow for a voting rights carve out yesterday. Every single member of the Senate who is considered a Republican voted No. Two Democrats voted no. This is a complete and utter failure on the entirety of the Senate.

But here is the thing, the minority leader of the senate said what it is really about for everyone who wished to listen.

That's what they believe. That is what they have believed forever.
You start out in 1954 by saying, “Ni**er, ni**er, ni**er.” By 1968 you can’t say “ni**er”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Ni**er, ni**er.”
What once was bussing and Tax cuts is once again the right to vote, just as it was since the very beginning of this nation.

White supremacy is now openly being embraced by the people on that side of the aisle. I'd like to see a bigger focus on those who are genuinely scared for our democracy. Dan Froomkin does as well.
What about talking to non-racist parents who worry their children will be taught propaganda at school? Or people in Black or brown communities who worry about barriers to voting, increased poverty and more militant policing? Or people in immigrant communities who don’t want to see their neighbors deported? Or trans people, who would have reason to be scared for their lives? Or government employees who would be asked to do things they consider abhorrent?

Or hang out at a Unitarian Church, or a reconstructionist synagogue, or a mosque, or a Common Cause meeting? Or, hell, just talk to people in a blue-state diner, if that’s easier? (Maybe make that a deli.)

It’s not only liberals who are terrified, either. It is, forgive me for saying so, pretty much anyone who occupies the reality-based sphere and is paying close attention.

and ol' Mitch McConfederate? What he believes is mathematically not backed up by facts.
The 2020 election must also be remembered for another turnout statistic: 70.9 percent of white voters cast ballots while only 58.4 percent of nonwhite voters did. As the graph below shows, 62.6 percent of Black American voters, 53.7 percent of Latino American voters, and 59.7 percent of Asian American voters cast ballots in 2020.

In one way at least, McConnell's words are refreshing.

His agenda is out in the open and obvious to all.

We can make exceptions to the filibuster to raise the debt ceiling. However, we cannot make exceptions to make sure that people can vote without harassment over getting water bottles in line, having fewer polling stations and drop boxes, and other measures.

Perhaps we finally have the masks come off and we see people who do not care if everyone van vote and want to control who counts and certifies the votes.

How very interesting that FB reminded me that I got fired five years ago today.

'twas my last day in Healthcare. It was a lengthy path, but giving up on Fallon led me into the driver's seat of a trolley.

Curious that it was the same day we got Trump - since he very nearly destroyed that job for me with fucking Covid.

But all is forgiven, and curiously enough, the sentiment I had on January 20, 2017 is in the forefront for me once again.

Well, like the United States, I too am at a crossroads today.
[Once again] All things are now possible.
