What is he doing?
Author: Raine    Date: 01/15/2009 13:37:11

What is PE elect Obama doing? George Will? Bill Kristol? Maureen Dowd? Rachel Maddow? He met with THESE people?? I will admit it. I can't figure him out. Last night it was reported that PE Obama did indeed meet with bloggers and journalists from the left side of the spectrum -- after we found out about dinner with George Will and his conservative colleagues.

So he really REALLY means to be bipartisan? REALLY? That is a good thing, right? Right?

Yes, indeed it is. One thing that struck me about his meeting with journalists was that he is indeed going to be everyone's President. There is a part of me that is so pleased that our country is going to heal. His diplomacy includes trying to reach out to the media that has been so hellbent on promoting the neo-con, Karl Rove agenda. Never one in 8 years did the 43rd administration do such a thing. That is change.

I suspect there is a method to his system. I don't know what it is, so I am not going to bash a man who has not yet even taken office. When he actually does, he will have such a load it is uncomprehendable. That said, I am left scratching my head today about a thing I read last night.
President-elect Obama has asked all U.S. Attorneys to “continue to serve for the time being” and is not demanding immediate wholesale resignations of Bush political appointees, the Justice Department announced Wednesday.

In addition, Obama’s transition team has asked current Deputy Attorney General Mark Filip, also a Bush appointee, to serve as Acting Attorney General replacing outgoing Attorney General Michael Mukasey.
After the firing of 9 US Attorney's in 2007, for what has been largely acknowledged as political reasons, after the dismissal of Alberto Gonzales for the same reasons, after we have all but lost faith as a nation in our federal justice system, why would Obama do this? Perhaps this is why.
The NAAUSA, in a letter recently sent to Obama and his Justice Department transition team, urged Obama to "consider the reappointment of such incumbent United States attorneys who have provided exceptional service during their tenure." The letter did not name any individuals.

The group also urged Obama's team not to fire U.S. attorneys until replacements are made, for the sake of an "orderly transition."

"We respectfully submit that, while this approach may be politically expedient, it is not consistent with the best interest of administration of the United States Attorneys Offices and the advancement of their mission," states the letter, signed by NAAUSA president Richard Delonis.
It does help to make the transition as smooth as possible for the parts of our Justice system that do not have the taint on them. There is also this. Eric Holder goes to his confirmation hearing today.
Eric Holder, President-elect Barack Obama's nominee for attorney general, faces a bruising confirmation hearing today as Senate Republicans prepare to question the former Justice Department lawyer about his role in several controversial presidential pardons and whether he will act independently of the White House.
Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., the Judiciary Committee's top Republican, has said he will ask about Holder's "ability to maintain his independence from the president."

In a speech before the Senate last week, Specter compared Holder to former attorney general Alberto Gonzales, who resigned in 2007 amid investigations into whether he had politicized the Justice Department. Specter attributed Gonzales' "missteps" to "his eagerness to please the White House."
It's laughable, the hypocrisy, I know. I hope they bring up Marc Rich, and remind them of who his attorney was... (Scooter Libby). It promises to be a fun day on the hill. It should be the first real test of the call for bipartisan support by our president of the senators - both the R's and the D's.

Perhaps, in reaching out not just to journalists, but also to *ush appointees, Obama has handed a peace offering to the GOP senators that are going to give him a hard time. Who knows. I just hope that once the right people are in place, Justice will truly be served, for those on the left as well as on the right. Holder is a good man for the job and I am certain he will scrub the taint out of the Justice Department.

I know who got him into office, and while as a liberal I feel like maybe we should be given a little candy every now and then, logic tells me that he is the 44th president of the United States of America. Sometime's it sucks having to be the better party for it. There will be no revenge placed on the previous administration or the journalists who bootlicked for it. Tho the desire it is there to seek and want revenge, I would rather simply have justice served. It sucks, but in the end, I want what is best for our country.

:peace: and:heart:
Raine

PS. Yes. I know that I referred to Obama as President. The one we have now is too busy with his Farewell Tour™ ... and it's lasting longer than Cher's and Kiss's combined.

Morning, comrades!

There's a posting on the company bulletin board this morning...a handful of Athenistas are heading for DC too (in an unofficial capacity) to join the masses on the mall.

And I found out one of my Scouters is heading down, too. He works for an airline; he's got the best deal of all. He's going to deadhead down Tuesday am, stay for the speeches, then fly home and sleep in his own bed.

"The People's Inaugural" for sure!

1. Got my VRE tickets! Is the train isn't late I should hit L'Enfant about 7:49 and I'll hit the meet up point which I think is really close to that station.

2. Cool cover!

3. Just listened to Lizz kill on Mix 107.3 - thanks for the tip she'd been on Liv - hoping she'd on with Mike O'Meara this afternoon

Comment by TriSec on 01/15/2009 14:09:23
Yay WP!

Ok, so we're looking at making it to the mall somewhere closer to 9am or so...(based on the Green Line.)

So I'd say don't wait for us; head out and claim a spot in the name of the Empire, and we'll catch up!

And I'll offer up again, I designated myself in charge of smokes, I'm heading for the smoke shop this evening. You want one?

(Think I'm bringing these.)

Morning all! Great post Raine, I am not looking forward to the bickering over Holder that is about to begin.

But I have faith that Obama will smooth things over with his actual bipartisanship.

Nice Nation cover. Will have to buy this one.

In other news.... it's snowing here, with the sun out.

You know what's funny???

Keep this on the DL...the cable guy said they don't have the new and improved "traps" yet, so he took the digital box but for the time being I will still have channels 1-99 but only pay for 1-21. He doesn't know when the new traps will be in, but that's the story.

Comment by TriSec on 01/15/2009 15:44:02
Speaking of which, I'm surprised nobody posted this yesterday...

And on a personal note, My High School has a rally on the day before the Thanksgiving Day Game, called "Color Day". Each class puts on a skit about how superior the Sachems are, and how they're going to "BEAT PEABODY!"

My Senior Class did Sesame Street, but the Juniors did "Fantasy Island" that year. (Giving rise to the phrase, "The Bus! The Bus!, as they had a prop malfunction and it came crashing to the floor, mid-skit.)

Just remember if you have a problem with a channel above 21 don't mention it to the cable people or they will send someone out to "fix" that problem by taking those away offically.

When I was a CSR I got calls like that alot.

Me: Hello MediaGeneral can I help you

Cust: Yeah, my Discovery channels not working, fix it.

Me: okay, let me take a look at your account and see if I can "refresh" the box

(types in number looks at account)

Me: hmmm, looks like you have our basic service, your not suppose to be getting Discovery, how long has this been going on?

Cust: ummm - nevermind (clink)

Me: (rolls eyes - like I don't have your address - and write up order to cut the expanded channels)

I dunno Tri...I've met a lot of RedNecks in New England...their called Hicks.

Usually small, insolated towns....kind of like the one in which I grew up.

I had kind of an upsetting incident the other day. My 12 year old nephew still lives in said little hick town and he referred to Japanese people as "Japs."

No one has called him on it, so I did. He hears it in a WWII video game that he plays. So, of course he is going to repeat it. But, why doesn't anybody say to him "Woh buddy, that's not cool. And, Pearl Harbor was a loooong time ago. The 'japs' are not our enemy!" Why? Because his grandparents and Mom thinks that "no big deal."

F'n hick town, right here in LIBERAL NEW ENGLAND.
