Goodnight, Comrade Gorbachev.

A titan of the Cold War has passed; with what I feel is a near-disrespectful lack of substantial news coverage.

Perhaps because he "played for the other team". Yet, he remains one of those rare ideological enemies that it is possible to respect, even if we disagree.

Comrade Gorbachev came to power during the Reagan Era, and through new policies of "Glasnost" and "Perestroika" sent the USSR down an inevitable path to it's own demise.

I can perhaps trace my fascination with Mother Russia back to that era. I have no connection to The Bear, but having grown up in the late Cold War era, it was possible to see hope and promise for Russia on the horizon, even as an American.

Unfortunately, the rapid changes in Russia led them down a path that brought them to Putin's doorstep. Thirty-one years after the collapse, is our relationship with Russia any better or different?

Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev was raised as a communist, and likely an atheist. I don't know what Misha personally believed in, but I hope he finds a peaceful rest.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

May Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev rest in peace, and may his memory be for a blessing. He tried to change a society dominated by a corrupt political party and tried to find a way to live in peace with the West. That Gorbachev ultimately failed to keep his nation together is not a surprise -- I am not sure anyone could have tried to reform the Soviet Union and keep together a nation that was never truly united save by force.

This sad news seems to be the passing of an era. I hope that history treats Mr. Gorbachev well.

Mornin' all..

So yeah, this one photograph of S/TS/SCI documents alone that's going around this morning is worth about 30 years in federal prison. And probably the lawyers too, who signed an affirmation that all such documents had been returned in June. The reports say they found over 100 more such documents in this last raid.

Put that side by side with the fact that our overseas intelligence assets have been killed or arrested en masse over the past several years and it becomes pretty damn clear what he's been doing. How much of his debt to Putin was wiped clean for burning all those people?

Excuse me, I'm gonna go fucking barf now.

I should be surprised at this but I am more shocked than surprised. I am working on the theory that as low as TFG has gone, he can always go lower. It seems that he may have lowered the bar far below Death Valley, California.
