Vote while you still can Author: BobRDate:11/02/2022 12:51:07
This is my last blog before election day. The polls show races "tightening", like they always do. What does this mean? In reality - it means nothing. Polls will often get the results they want, for whatever motivation, whether it's to push an agenda, a particular candidate, or to just keep eyes on screens.
People like me are never polled, because I rarely answer the phone if I don't recognize the number. Whether that attitude skews poll results, it's hard to say. But if the polls try to get an equal number of people that identify as Republican and Democrat, then the naturally results are going to be close.
What matters is showing up on election day. What matters is knowing the laws in your state, and who you want to vote for up and down the entire ballot. Check your local websites to verify you're registered. Get a sample ballot. See what those "ballot initiatives" really mean.
Republicans have been trying to suppress voting for years. Their tactics have gotten worse, and if they gain control of state governments and/or the U.S. government, you can be sure they will do what they can to create a permanent hegemony. The party of "small government" will be Big Brother.
So ignore the polls. Vote like your life depends on it - because it might.
I hate to say it, but there are many Americans who oppose the concept of democracy - either for financial gain and power or to bring everyone into a new social order dominated by their beliefs. So, we need to vote.
My early voting was complete one week ago. Massachusetts will remain blue, of course - but I'm worried about the rest of the country.
We do not vote for our best interests as Americans anymore - it seems that we are voting to punk "the other guy", whoever that may be.
And given the constant "Take America Back" attitude (to what, again?) we are stuck in a rut of back-and-forth. Since one side tries to undo everything the other side does, and when the other side is in power, they spent time fixing what the first guys broke, we can never move forward.
As Thomas Jefferson once noted, "Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes."
If we keep going back and forth and accomplishing nothing, it may be that time.
