This was a Hate Crime
Author: Raine    Date: 02/09/2009 13:28:26

Do you remember Jim David Adkisson? He was the man who stormed the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church last July and killed two people and wounded six others during the presentation of a children's musical.

He admitted that what he did was a hate crime.
Jim David Adkisson wanted to leave no doubt of his motive in opening fire inside a West Knoxville church last year.

“This was a hate crime,” Adkisson wrote in a four-page “manifesto” he had left inside his vehicle and intended to serve as a suicide letter.

Adkisson, 58, wrote that he wanted to kill the “generals” of the liberal movement, citing Democrats in Congress, Supreme Court justices and President Barack Obama.

But he said he couldn’t get to those in power so he opted instead to attack liberalism’s “foot soldiers,” specifically citing the members of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church.
The crime itself was shocking enough, and I am sure that this verdict is not so shocking, but it is important to note that last year Barack Obama was not the president. He is now, and the people who inspired this man - specifically Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Rielly - are still spewing out the same hatred that they spewed last year. We have no word on who he listened to on the radio, but I suspect it was these three and the new 'De Facto" leader of the RNC: Rush Limbaugh. How can you listen to right wing radio and not listen to him?

I dare say many of them are more hateful now than last year. Specifically Rush, whom we know has already expressed the desire that our president fail.
I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: “Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.” Somebody’s gotta say it.
He has also said he has an Army and that he is a general...
My voice is the voice of millions of God-fearing American conservatives. That's why I'm listened to. It's because my voice equals millions. It isn't just me. I'm not going it alone here. I have an army. I'm the general, but I have an army.

So we have a man that is going to jail for killing the 'Liberal foot Soldiers' in a church and a slew of people preaching hatred against liberals on the radio with the biggest one of all (literally) saying that he is the general of 'God-fearing American conservatives'.

Who is leading the attack on America here? Seriously? Who exactly is attacking the American Ideals of Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness?

Adkisson wrote a 4 page manifesto that will most likely be made public today. I hope and pray that the other members of the cult of right wing radio wake up and realize that they have been following false prophets and cowardly leaders. Mr. Adkission deserves to go away for life. I would hope that the people who helped push this man over the edge would acknowledge that it was their words that led him down this path, but I won't hold my breath.

These murders WERE a hate crime egged on by hate speech.

:peace: and
Raine

Good morning!!

I hope that the repercussions today include PRESIDENT OBAMA taking the GOP to the woodshed over their intransigence on the jobs package.

Maybe this could be one of Obama's lines:

I believe that government should serve the interests of the American people. Unfortunately, too many of my colleagues in the GOP have serviced narrow-minded partisan or economic interests. Hmm, the thought of Boener servicing anyone leaves a sick feeling in my stomach.

SERIOUSLY, we have one member of the GOP claiming that they have learned their lessons from the Taliban. I don't think this bodes well for any form of compromise or cooperation.

My Mom has started making coffee at home to save money.

My Mom feels bad about not giving that money to Tony, who owns the coffee shop.

Wouldn't it be nice if my Mom could buy her coffee from Tony again?

Man with all this free time I have now from not reading DK as much as I used to, I'm catching up on all sorts of stuff, including my Facebook. I think I got the hang of this thing now..

And I found a new haunt.. the appropriately named Free Speech Zone. The place is small though; so small that my first diary (about the whole thing w/ DK) got frontpaged.

On Randi's board, John Campbelll said Friday that there is a technical problem. However, take the following for what you will: Brian Maloney, conservative critic of liberal talk radio, wrote on the Radio Equalizer that Randi is in a dispute with Nova M Radio management. (Randi's current contract ends in April.)

So, I guess we will find out the truth soon. My hope is that we will hear Randi today.

I wouldn't consider the Radio Equalizer to be a credible suit since they have been saying that Air America Radio has been going out of business for years. Although with Thom Hartmann leaving and XM's Left talk channel dropping all but a handful of AAR shows, I wonder if it may be in that situation now.

I mentioned that I had been watching "Mystery Diagnosis" on DHC recently...

The other night there was a poor newborn child that had a rare genetic disorder that affected the elasticity of the lungs. She couldn't breathe, and had a pulse-ox of only 65% for much of her young life. She eventually recovered thanks to some agressive and experimental treatments....but she spent 18 months in the hospital.

The baby-mill folks strike me as the type that would do everything in their power to restrict a woman's right to choose....and would then turn around and ignore that poor newborn and oppose any funding for insurance or treatment programs that diagnosed the problem and kept her alive.

Care for the unborn, ignore the newly-born. Sums up the fundies nicely, no?

The President hit his head while boarding Marine 1 Today... He is alright, and he didn't even look like a fool Doing it!!

Barack is a tall man...you ever been aboard an H-60? (I've seen a couple at airshows...it's a cramped little bird with not much ceiling height.)

And another Bush Legacy to ponder. "Marine One" has always been a Sikorski, built here in Connecticut. The replacement, scheduled to be in service soon, is a British-built Westland Merlin. A fine helo, to be sure....but not made in the USA. (See the ongoing Boeing/Tanker fiasco, referenced elsewhere in these pages. Thank McCain for that one.)

Random's been listening to Friday's Stephanie Miller. And I have noticed that no one called with my favorite peeve.

When you correct someone and they respond. "Same Difference".

Ahhh... I see...

What?

The only thing That annoys Random. In the grammer or Spelling department.

Yes. I remember that. A british Helo.

But the President was waving to supporters and like you said, Marine One is a LOT smaller than it EVER looked with *ush.

Seriously, he didn't look like a fool at all. No gaffes there!

the Duggers - one of the local shows (Mike O'Meara) has a serious hate on for them

Yep! As Randi is fond of saying, "Love the fetus, hate the child."

Since I am at work, who watched the Obama Press Conference?

Kennedy gets off deathbed to vote for cloture.

Sorry for the dramatics, but it's increasingly starting to look that way for our dear Senior Senator.

He looked terrible today...just showing up to vote took a lot out of him.

For the first time in eight years I've not lost my voice during a presidential press conference or speech.

I guess you can strain the vocal cords calling bullshit and idiot every time the chimp-in-chief spoke.
