Nothing about Finances!
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 03/15/2009 13:42:11

Yes, Velveeta is sick to death of the dearth of money she has, the fact that she must do her taxes this week, and all the bad news that continues to boil over on the TV, radio and interwebs. Sheesh! The Washington Post is cutting its daily financial section while the celebrity Web site TMZ and TV shows like "Extra" and "Inside Edition" are expanding theirs! I wasn't even aware these gossip shows had any coverage not related to Britney, Lindsay, Paris and missing white women. Guess I'll have to tune into "The Soup" with Joel McHale to see how my stocks are doing.

Anyway, I am sick of money talk; falling DOW's, rich CEO's bilking me out of money, and auto makers that are going under because no one can afford to buy, much less drive, their copious behemoth Hummers, and they can't figure out what the problem is.

So instead I present you with some non money news!

Like this:Why Did The New York Times Kill This Image of Henry Kissinger? (Not for His Naked Butt Cheeks!)

The Kissinger image below (by David Levine) is one of 320 illustrations – by 142 of the world's most acclaimed contemporary artists – that The New York Times itself originally commissioned for its Op-Ed Pages, but then got cold feet about running, and eventually paid more than $1 million in “kill fees” to hide from public view (sometimes for as long as 38 years).

What didn't the Times want you to see?

http://www.alternet.org/images/managed/storyimage_picture2_1236582243.jpg

Can you imagine illustrations so "blasphemous," so "politically embarrassing," so sexually "over the line" that The New York Times gladly paid a fortune just to protect your delicate eyes from being exposed to them?

My favorite is the cartoon of Raygun as a beggar with a missile for a nose!

This rather dull article also caught my eye. (Its raining here all weekend.... what can I say). Aren't you dying to know the oldest English words? Huh? Huh?

Some of the oldest words in English have been identified, scientists say.

Reading University researchers claim "I", "we", "two" and "three" are among the most ancient, dating back tens of thousands of years.

Their computer model analyses the rate of change of words in English and the languages that share a common heritage.

The team says it can predict which words are likely to become extinct - citing "squeeze", "guts", "stick" and "bad" as probable first casualties.

And lastly, this article which is really quite dumbfounding. Literally! American Adults flunk basic science.

Over the past few months, the American government has allocated hundreds of billions of dollars for economic bailout plans. While this spending may provide a short-term solution to the country's economic woes, most analysts agree that the long-term solution must include a transition to a more knowledge-based economy, including a focus on science, which is now widely recognized as a major driver of innovation and industry.

According to Science Daily more than half of the adults surveyed could not answer such questions as how long it takes for the Earth to revolve around the Sun or roughly approximate the percent of the Earth's surface that is covered with water. Many did not know whether early man and dinosaurs lived together or not. (Hm, perhaps we should amend the Constitution. We don't want men living with dinosaurs should they ever return).

Anyway, if its raining were you are, they also include a science test which you can take to amuse or horrify yourself.

See ya inside.

Good morning velveeta.

Just had my eyes and ears assaulted by Dick Cheney on CNN. All I wanted to do is set my TiVo to record Stephanie on Reliable Sources.

Such tidbits as...

"Rush is a good friend, I love him"

"Scooter was unjustly accused and prosecuted and deserved a pardon"

Believes Barney Frank & Chris Dodd are primarily responsible for the current financial crisis.

another great one VJ

I just took the science quiz and I won't be sharing my results with another living soul. I think 8 years of Bush has lowered my IQ.

And on the Science front.

10 Repubilcan Reps vote NO for PI Day.

Tucker thinks Jon Stewart is on his way to becoming unfunny?

Where's Tucker's bowtie?

Stephanie looks nice as always.

Good - Stephanie is getting back at Tucker.

Too bad she's not in studio with the rest.

Tucker - "I'm the least partisan person I know".

Tucker's calling Jon Stewart a pompous jerk.

Interesting, yet f*cking unbelievable that Congress would waste time arguing over this. Just give Pi is freakin' day and be done with it. Gads, they've given days to just about everything! What a bunch of 'tards.

:rolleyes2:

Yeah, I was not sure about the fresh water. I think I said 4-10% (leaning towards 4 or 5 in my mind), but its only 3%! I got 5 out of 6.

Gimme the nerd spec's Bobber......... :p

Good morning everyone. Just a quick hit and run before I head to work. Today I have the Big 12 Women's Tournament and then the Knicks are in Cleveland where they should get a beat down from the Cavs.

I wonder if Tucker is still pissed at Jon Stewart for that rebuke he got on Crossfire which eventually led to the show's demise a few years back.

Hey folks. 4 out of 6 on the science test. I was off with the water percentage questions, but I picked the "next closest" answer. Not too bad, I guess.

6 for 6 on the science quiz!

A couple of jokes courtesy of A Prairie Home Companion:

Why are there 239 beans in a bowl of bean soup?

Because one more would be too farty.

Why do farts smell?

So the deaf can enjoy them too.

Thanks, I'll be here all week.

Screwed up the fresh water - 5/6

I was worried about the dinosaur/man question. Everyone knows they lived together, just like on the Flintstones.

Evening, folks.

A delightful spring day in New England....spent most of the afternoon sitting on my mother's porch in my stocking feet, drinking her vodka and watching the kids play.

And wonder of wonders, Connie flies again! I had a questionable version of the Constellation in the flight sim, which I eventually dumped. Imagine my surprise to learn that the Alpha Sim Connie is now a free download!

Took me two hours to finally get off the ground without having a departure stall, but once airborne I got her up to 230 KIAS down on the deck at Sea-Tac. Going to have to do a revenue flight real soon!
