Payback is Hell
Author: BobR    Date: 10/08/2025 13:19:38

There are way too many examples of the current maladministration's attacks on our Constitution and way of life. We're not so much creeping towards fascism as running towards it like our collective hair is on fire. There is one, though, that hits a little close to home for this DC-area resident...

I'm referring to the government shutdown, and Marmalade Mussolini talking about holding government workers' back pay hostage in an attempt to coerce the Democrats to sign a bill which will result in hundreds of thousands of their fellow citizen's losing health care coverage:
President Donald Trump is considering not giving back pay to all federal employees once the government shutdown ends, suggesting it could depend on the worker in the GOP’s latest attempt to force Democrats to concede in the ongoing funding battle.

“I would say it depends on who we’re talking about. I can tell you this, the Democrats have put a lot of people in great risk and jeopardy, but it really depends on who you’re talking about,” Trump said from the Oval Office Tuesday afternoon.

[...]

House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters Tuesday that he personally supported back pay for government workers. Privately, some Republicans have suggested the White House budget office issued the threat largely to further ratchet up pressure on Democrats, after its earlier moves to explore mass layoffs of federal employees and cancel federal funding for blue state projects.

Of course, this goes against a law designed to protect federal workers in this exact situation, a law that Pedo McYamTits himself signed into law during his first term:
The updated memo from the White House’s Office of Management and Budget contends that the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act (GEFTA) has either been misinterpreted or is “deficient,” an administration official confirmed to CNN.

GEFTA has commonly been understood to guarantee that furloughed workers would receive back pay at the conclusion of any future shutdowns.

Trump signed it into law during his first term amid what was then the most recent government shutdown, which ended in late January 2019 after a record 35 days.

I have to fly out of National Airport tomorrow, and I'm wondering how delayed my flight will be, since AT controllers are part of the government workforce currently working without pay.

Ooof.

Day 261... 1198 to go.

First, Texas buses thousands of migrants to Chicago as a political stunt. Now, Trump sends the Texas National Guard to "manage" the situation they helped create. The audacity is breathtaking.

Reuters photographer Jonathan Ernst noticed that Bondi flipped open a file during the Senate hearing and he zoomed in.

Inside were her crib notes for attacking the senators.

The GOP now practicing Cliff's Notes Fascism

In other words, under oath Bondi was purely a performance.
