Good Morning.

We stand upon the precipice of the World Cup, or FIFA's authorized takeover of the city of Boston. I am working today, but driving something that is not even connected to the event. Which suits me just fine; I'll stay out of everyone's way.

Perhaps you've been seeing some news out of Washington, DC. As it will soon be Flag Day, the annual Nuremburg Rally will be taking place on the South Lawn of the White House.

Something to note - The White House is under centerline-extended for the main runway at Washington National. While planes immediately need to turn upon departure, the approach over Gravelly Point is generally long and straight, with a fine view for the pilots.

They've noticed something recently.

A commercial airline pilot that spoke to MeidasTouch this evening has filed aviation safety reports after powerful lighting used during the construction and testing of the UFC octagon on the White House grounds allegedly shone directly into their cockpit during a nighttime approach into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), creating what the pilot described as one of the most severe visibility disruptions they have experienced in their career.

The pilot, who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about the incident, was flying into Reagan National on a recent flight when aircraft on approach encountered intense white light associated with the UFC event held on the White House South Lawn.

According to the pilot, the lights illuminated the cockpit during the final stages of landing, a critical phase of flight when pilots rely heavily on visual references. The pilot described the incident as “10 times worse than any laser illumination event” the pilot ever experienced.

Here is a helpful use of AI. While it's not actually a laser, the penalties for flight interferences are severe:

The act of knowingly aiming a laser at an aircraft is classified as a federal crime under 18 U.S. Code § 39A.

Criminal Fines: Up to $250,000.Incarceration: Up to 5 years in federal prison.

Civil Penalties: The FAA pursues civil fines up to $11,000 per single violation, and up to $30,800 (or more) for multiple incidents.

Certificate Revocation: If the offender holds an FAA pilot or mechanic certificate, the FAA can revoke it.

Of course, if the President does it, it's legal, right?

But let's move on to something happier. I hope you had a chance to peek in on the livestream of some 'modifications' that were made to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts yesterday. There is an "after" picture circulating on Bluesky. It's an easily-manipulated or AI-type image, so I'm hoping a member of the DC Branch might be able to confirm this one.

Leaving you with a thought - not to go all Stereotype, but our Scottish Friends in Boston appear to be of the hard-partying sort; they've admitted as much on multiple TV interviews and are really looking forward to the local bars being open late.

I wonder how many drink-drive accidents we'll have overnight?

Stay safe out there if there's soccer in your neck of the woods today.
