Debunking Healthcare Reform Myths
Author: BobR    Date: 07/24/2009 12:37:15

You hear them everyday. Sometimes it's on the news, or the radio, or in the breakroom at the office. Somebody will toss off a "fact" about healthcare or healthcare reform with the informed nuance of an expert in the subject matter, and you will think to yourself "that can't be right!". You want to call bullshit, but you don't have the facts at your fingertips. Meanwhile, everyone else is nodding with concerned looks on their faces. The poisoning of their minds has begun.

The first step (if this is not coming from some media directly) is to ask "Where did you get that information?" This may be followed by the sheepish admission that they heard it from a radio talk-show host, or in an email they've received. This can be followed by the question "How do you know that's true?" This can be asked politely and earnestly, but will still likely put them in a defensive position. That shouldn't be a problem - people should be able to back up their facts.

In order to help YOU back up YOUR facts, FourFreedoms Blog has put together a "sister site" to provide a "one-stop shopping" destination for getting the skinny on healthcare reform myths. The website is:

http://www.healthcarereformmyths.org

It provides a list of myths, a blurb indicating the reality relevent to the myth and (in most cases) a link to another site with more information. Today is the first day the site is online, so there are a few items that still need links. The site is also meant to be dynamic and up-to-date, so please send any myths that need to be debunked (whether they come from the right-wing or the left-wing) to [email protected]

There will be some enhancements to the site coming very soon. We will add an email submission form rather than provide a direct email address. We will provide an RSS feed so subscribers can get the latest myths in their inbox, and we'll provide keyword (tags) filtering. We may also provide tweet links for the individual items, although we'd rather not have to limit ourselves to Twitter's 140 characters.

So feel free to peruse the site now (such as it is) and provide feedback. Keep in mind that changes will occur rapidly today and tomorrow, so check back often. Feel free to forward and post the link to the site to anyone and everyone.

Healthcare reform is just too important to be scuttled by vested interests (or for purely political ideology). The truth is our friend.

Morning!

Great blog today. But I have moved on to different, and much more important, issues: Was Obama really born in the USA?

I watched the Hardball/G. Gordon Liddy interview and I dunno....... Liddy was pretty darn convincing! I mean, there is a sworn deposition from a non-blood relative in Kenya that says she was there during the birth!!

All Chris Matthews had was the word of the Gov. of Hawai'i, the State of Hawai'i, his Mother, Grandparents, newspaper clippings from 48 years ago and a "Certificate of Live Birth" with a seal and number etc from the American state of Hawai'i.

But NO BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!!!!

Obama needs to step up and prove he's a citizen of this here country. Otherwise git out!!

Oh, and I shall give this blog and it's companion volume brisk circulation. My brother, in particular, is highly placed in the local union (Lynn, MA) and will be most interested in distributing this information.

I'll also send it through my industry contacts.

Oh ya that reminds me..

Today was day four without any actual sports discussion. They also replayed an exclusive interview with the arresting officer that they had on yesterday.

Comment by TriSec on 07/24/2009 14:46:51
Scoop, why don't you call in under false pretenses, then ask them what happened to the sports programming?

Oh boy the Mooks and momma are in quite a heated debate.

I've updated the "submit" screen. It's now a form. This will make the process safer from ne'er-do-wells. Friends can still submit directly via the email address if desired, or use the form - whichever is easier...

I would've but my cell battery was dead - went to charge it at like 11 last night, power went out a half hour later. Didn't come back on until like 6AM.

Good morning everyone.

Obviously since I slept so well the night before, last night I got interrupted by an itching outbreak and I was so itchy I had to take a cold shower to stop it. It was that kind of night.

We are still adding myths to the NCRM Blog, so if you have any debunking things.. seriously send them along. This is still kinda a slow rollout, but all help and submissions would be most awesome.

Say now, we celebrated the moonwalk with such fervor, but we forgot the other half of President Kennedy's charge...."and return them safely to Earth".

Today marks the successful completion of that mission.

At 12:51 EDT, Apollo 11, the U.S. spacecraft that had taken the first astronauts to the surface of the moon, safely returns to Earth.

The American effort to send astronauts to the moon had its origins in a famous appeal President John F. Kennedy made to a special joint session of Congress on May 25, 1961: "I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth."

I found something interesting out yesterday. Washington, DC's legendary Root Boy Slim was a frat brother of George W. Bush. They were both DKEs at Yale. Root was a year ahead of W. When Root came back to the house for home coming after he graduated, the president of the chapter (W) got pissed, kicked Root out and banned him from the DKE house!

I am more than happy that he commented on this. It is the media that is turning this into a firestorm. Listen again to what Obama said:

You should only use the FlashVid tags if you are posting a direct link to a Flash file (*.flv). Otherwise, most sites nowadays have "embed" text that you can copy and paste.

News from the 4F flying field this evening....

I'm at a crossroads with ol' FS9 (A Century of Flight).

It's been acting up recently; my system seems like it can no longer run the program. I've got a lot of strange things going on, system lockups and outright system crashes (not plane crashes. :nana:)

In any case, I've ditched a lot of addon software that just wasn't doing it for me, and I reset all the defaults last night.

I'm going to painstakingly rebuild my keyboard and joystick mapping this evening, but if I'm having the same issues, I may have to blow everything away and start from scratch.

Which would mean putting "The Maddowan" out to pasture. She's been a good blog flagship, but if I can't fly for more than 15 minutes without windows acting up, it's not any good to me anymore.

Well, back from the hangar and I'm pleased to report that the maintenence cycle seems to have been succesful.

I dumped "GA Traffic" and "USA Roads", neither of which has ever really worked right. (roads in the middle of lakes, for one thing.)

I just completed a brief full-cycle flight from PBI to MCO without incident.
