Are we that stupid?
Author: Raine    Date: 08/24/2009 12:59:10

The world is watching us America, and they are getting sick and tired of our nonsense. Many people probably don't care, but put yourself in their shoes. If they had a small, but very loud vocal group saying racially-tinged obscenities about how the United States runs - we would be upset as well.

So it should come as no surprise that both Britain and Canada are coming out to defend their health care systems. These articles are the direct result of what people are doing at town halls across the country. The Astroturfers are a small but very vocal bunch of people who are simply embarrassing. There is no question in my mind that these are the same type of people who boycotted and poured French Wine out in the streets in 2003 because France would not get mired in the Iraq war. They were wrong then and they are wrong now. The world is watching us, and we look foolish.

After reading those 2 articles, one can safely conclude that Brits and Canadians are both asking: Are we THAT stupid? Seriously, there is talk of rationing, death panels, euthanasia, bureaucrats coming between you and your doctors... and people are really believing this crap? They KNOW that Big Pharma and the insurance industry are spending millions to scare the hell out of Americans and people are falling for it? Are we really that stupid?

Surely for a country that was so eager to kick terrorist ass over there, we would be brave enough to stand up to corporate interests here... It seems rather strange that these people who want government to stay out of their life when it comes to saving it via health care, are more than happy to send our sons and daughters into a war that government scared them into to die. Death and war is good, and health insurance for all bad. Are we really that stupid?

We sent a man to the moon. We invented the telephone, the light bulb, the internet, the automobile. We have had some of the most radical inventions on this planet! We have done more to medically advance the human race than anyone! We discover CURES for diseases! Are we really going to let these people be the town halls be the face that the world sees of America? Really?

America the world is watching. Not all of us are that stupid, but it certainly is starting to look that way.

and
Raine

How much longer are we going to let a small vocal minority of idiots drive the debate?

Comment by wickedpam on 08/24/2009 14:00:51
part of me has to wonder if its more like we, as a nation, don't like confrontation. I'm not talking miliary, cause Lord knows some of us love our guns just a little too much, I'm talking about social confrontation. We let those that whine the loudest win so we don't have to listen to them anymore. It's learned behaviour - we give a kid a cookie or a toy to keep them quiet.

I would be willing to go one step further -- We have a nation filled with a bunch of cowards and bullies that just love to wrap themselves in the flag.

I am just getting so sick of these people.

I have to agree - Dems have gotten too many swirlies in the past - they flinch when someone makes a fist now.

exactly - they hide behind a flag and accuse all who disagree with them of not being "Real Americans". THEY are the ones disrespecting the flag and our nation's history. And people who are unsure don't want to be unAmerican, so they go along with it, or stay quiet.

I find the media culpable as well, since they seem to be giving voice and credibility to these "morans".

BTW I posted this as yesterdays blog, but it deserves another mention here:

Yesterday, the AJC has a rather good review of what Health Care reform means for America. It was surpisingly well done, I must say. I've been known to be quite critical of our hometown paper, but I'll give credit where it is due. While I did find a few factual errors, for example: Everything the republicans from our fine state said. If you want, you can access it here, there are some really good links.

The debate goes on. This was on the front page of Sunday's newspaper:

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa213/FourFreedoms/hcrirony2.jpg

The photo caption reads:

East Cobb barber, [name redacted by me] thinks that people should work for their health care. He's 52, a Marietta resident, and has no health insurance.

Mornin' Everybodee

Just another drive-by posting - another busy Monday here at the Law Liberry

Hope everyone is doing well - have a good day

BTB, Excellent post Raine, I am reminded of the headline in a London paper after the results [sic] of the 2004 election were made known. It read something like "How could 200 milliion people be so stupid?" Indeed.

Cheers,

mfaye

Insurance companies admit they are sending employees and lobbyists to town hall meetings.

I ran into such a woman at Langevin's town hall last week. She claimed she worked "in the industry" and had traveled to Europe to study the "failure of their health care systems". I when I asked her whether she worked in healthcare or health insurance she refused to answer and tried to pin it back on me by asking "Have you gone to Europe?"

Say it ain't so! I can't believe they would do that!

Oh yea.. caught a quick punch from the previously mentioned morning idiots in Boston as I was jumping stations - they compared Obama taking a vacation on Martha's Vineyard to Bush playing 'one innocent round of golf'.

BTW I do get the new sports talk station in Boston on my walkman.. it's faint but at least it's MUCH better than those two turds.

Good morning everyone..

Why are these idiots controlling the debate? If there isn't any proof that the media is not liberal, what does it take to spell it out?

A lot on my plate today, hopefully I will get something accomplished.

Good morning, bloggers!!

Excellent post, Raine! I think that we have people selling fear and conditioned to being afraid.

I am going to cross post the story on Baucus at UNN, and forward it to Jeff Farias. (As I mentioned last week, he is filling in for Randi Rhodes on Thursday and Friday.)

What happened to the Thom Hartmann feed. Oops, it's fixed. They started sending Rush out instead and that's what Sirius had..

Seemed to be the wrong program was going out on the Thom feed for the first minute because Sirius had the same thing. The feed was fixed but not before there was a lot of confusion.

Was it on all feeds, or just 1480 KPHX? They did have a similar problem a few weeks back, carrying Portland traffic and weather here. (Let's say that I thought the road names were unfamiliar but the weather report was closer to November than July or August.)

Raine, you may find it amusing, but I was taking a shower when Rush came on my radio. (I definitely needed it after hearing him.)

It seemed to go out on all feeds since I heard it on Sirius and the KTLK stream. KTLK dumped it and ran spots and traffic reports until the Thom feed came on. Sirius stayed on it but it abruptly shifted from Rush to Thom once it was cleared up.

The same thing that happened with KTLK happened here at KPHX. Thanks for the clarification.

Only thing I hear from you is that insurance industry sets the price. How? where? who?

Couldn't find anything over at HCRM to answer this.

I wonder if Tri would have the inside track on that, since he did work within the industry

Google "RBRVS". The AMA controls the codes, and they control the reimbursement rates.
