1:45AM CDT — FEMA REQUESTS AMBULANCES THAT DO NOT EXIST;

11:20 AM CDT — FEMA STAFF WARNED BROWN THAT PEOPLE WERE DYING AT THE SUPERDOME;

NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS ARRIVE IN LOUSIANA, MISSISSIPPI, ALABAMA, AND FLORIDA;

TENS OF THOUSANDS TRAPPED IN SUPERDOME; CONDITIONS DETERIORATE;

PRESIDENT BUSH FINALLY ORGANIZES TASK FORCE TO COORDINATE FEDERAL RESPONSE;

JEFFERSON PARISH EMERGENCY DIRECTOR SAYS FOOD AND WATER SUPPLY GONE;

80,000 BELIEVED STRANDED IN NEW ORLEANS;

3,000 STRANDED AT CONVENTION CENTER WITHOUT FOOD OR WATER;

PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY DECLARED FOR ENTIRE GULF COAST;

BUSH SURVEYS DAMAGE FROM AIR FORCE ONE;

CHERTOFF “EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THE RESPONSE” OF THE GOVERNMENT;

4PM CDT — BUSH GIVES FIRST MAJOR ADDRESS ON KATRINA;

7PM CDT — CONDOLEEZZA RICE TAKES IN A BROADWAY SHOW;

8PM CDT — FEMA DIRECTOR BROWN CLAIMS SURPRISE OVER SIZE OF STORM.

The very next morning Bush said he never expected the Levees to break. Condoleeza Rice went to the US open in Queens, New York and then shoe shopping and 5 days after this catastrophe hit the Gulf Coast, there was still no command center set up. The whole timeline is here.

I will never be able to fully get over how badly this crisis was handled. The storm was awful, but its aftermath was the tragedy.

I still get infuriated over the Bush Administration's uncaring and incompetent response to a storm everyone knew would be a disaster.

NEVER again.

Excellent reminder, Raine I will never forget the agony I felt as I watched the scenes from the Convention Center and simultaneously prayed that my sister had made it out in one piece (She had ). Anyway, Raine - my dear - you are a radio star I spent several hours yesterday listening to you on the Progressive Knights of the Round Table and you were fabulous You totally ROCK, grrrl!

Oh btw, just wanted to let everyone now but we got our first communtiy/city grant for $300 to help beautify our little HOA. Had to make a presentation at an HOA/City breakfast this weekend in front of like 40 people (one of the judges being the Mayor of Manassas) - I was so nervous didn't even make it through my 3 minutes - but I did write a killer proposal! :D

Good morning everyone.

This morning it's a bit of a quick hit and run since I have to get in early today and do an afternoon Rays game on FSN Florida and then my regular work in MSG Plus. Having a life these days is a tricky part for me.

Marvel to get Disneified

NOOOOO! Well since Time Warner bought DC Comics and Mad Magazine many years ago, I guess Marvel would become part of a corporate conglomerate at some point. They already have the DVD rights to many of the Marvel animated series and did the DVD releases over the last few years.

Thanks! Hoping this is a sign of things to come, depending on October's annual meeting. Still worried that a certain complainer is going to find a way to oust me for no reason - which just pisses me off to know end. I've worked my butt off this year to clean up a mess that was left.

Uhm --- The Tenthers are the same people who think the New Deal was unconstitutional.

They would like to see ALL federal Social programs removed. I should send bill a letter and ask him that when he is of age, I will gladly take his social security checks.

Comment by Raine on 08/31/2009 15:07:10
And not for nothing -- the governments function is to provide for the basic security it people. So therefore one could easily argue that national Health care is the responsibility of government. Not to mention the bill of rights also says "life liberty and the persuit of Happiness"

Good gawd these people are insane.

Good -- Leave Texas. And while we are at it -- I would like the Feds to immediate request the Stimulus money back. No more FDIC assistance... More more of ANY of it.

Yeah I wanna watch em try. When the mightiest military in the world does a little "shock and awe" on say Dallas or Huston that'll be great fun to watch. When Texas is brought to heel by a military occupation with martial law, the leaders of an insurrection against the US are executed for treason, yeah I'd be behind that 100 %. Don't mess with Texas my fat, hairy !

If Texas left the union, other than Jim Hightower since we lost Molly Ivins, we would largely be losing our stupidest people anyway.

Good morning, bloggers, from the Valley of the Sun!

Raine, I cannot forget the devastation of the Gulf Coast and the lack of response of the Bush administration. There is much that could have been done to prevent the loss of life in Louisiana and Mississippi.

The rebuilding efforts still continued, with thousands living in trailers or trying to rebuild their homes and lives. There has been an increase in crime, drug use, and mental health problems along the Gulf Cost.

Raine, I thought you did a great job on PKRT on Saturday!

President Barack Obama's daughter Sasha hides behind the sofa as she sneaks up on him at the end of the day in the Oval Office, Aug. 5, 2009. Is it me or did it remind you of this?
