A better man than me.

I did not even know this was a controversy until this morning. Van Jones, the WH green Jobs adviser evidently called Republicans 'assholes'. He apologized for it. While I understand the sensitivity of working in the White House and the politics involved, I for one would like to say I stand with you, Van Jones.
Obama green jobs adviser Van Jones is apologizing for calling Republicans A-holes a month before joining the White House staff in March 2009.

His office just sent over this statement from him:

“These comments, made before I joined the administration, were clearly inappropriate and I apologize for the offensive words I chose to use during that speech. They do not reflect the views of this administration, which has made every effort to work in a bipartisan fashion, and they do not reflect the experience I have had since I joined the administration.” Source.
I am sure the Republicans will now let the issue go away, right? Yeah, probably not. I had a small moment of hope and then I remembered: water is Wet and the GOP is guaranteed to express their displeasure over a WH appointee. So -- as we enter the weekend with a fresh pile of faux outrage, let's keep in mind the nobility of the Republican Party and those that represent it. Please feel free to add to the list. In no particular order, I present my list of A-holes. Should I ever get a job with the White house I promise to retract this list:

Glenn Beck
John Boehner
Eric Cantor
Rush Limbaugh
Michael Steele
Chuck Grassley
John McCain
Sarah Palin
Michelle Bachman
Saxby Chambliss
James Inhoffe
David Vitter
Michael Savage
Bill O'Rieilly
Dick Cheney
Newt Gingrich
Paul Broun
Jack Kingston
Peter King
Jim Demint
Joe Scarborough
Sean Hannity
Bobby Jindal
Rick Perry

Now I know I am missed more than a few assholes. That Said, While Van Jones needed to apologize, I don't. The above is an A list of A-holes.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!

&
Raine

Good morning, bloggers! Excellent post, Raine!

Too many in the GOP have acted in a way that would have had their peers publicly shame them 20 years ago. Now, we have a GOP with no shame.

Trojanrabbit, hang in there.

The news on wireless electricity reminds me of the old, nebulous "broadcast power" that was a staple of some old science fiction.

I hope that someone checks on possible health side effects.

Wheelchair-bound woman shouted down by dimwits at town hall with Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ)

Something else in this video caught my attention as well, because it's one of the less discussed topics in the health care reform package - tort reform. Why would people who are in favor of health care reform be opposed to legal reforms in regards to malpractice? That kind of reform would not affect victims of gross or deliberate negligence at all - it's aimed at the more frivolous claims, which do nothing but contribute to the problem of rising costs. Personally I think that's just as important as new regulations on the insurance industry to keep them from denying & dumping coverage.

That's Not Finger Food! Pro-Reformer Bites Off 65-Year-Old's Pinky At Health Rally

Ben Frumin | September 3, 2009, 8:40AM

A KTLA report from a health care rally near Los Angeles last night may not include gun-toting protesters, but it does describe another sort of weapon: teeth. As in, a pro-reform protester used his teeth to bite off the finger of an anti-reformer.

According to KTLA, a group of anti-health care reform protesters set up across the street from about 100 pro-reform demonstrators at a MoveOn.org-sponsored rally. Apparently, a pro-reformer walking through the anti-reform group to join the rest of his gang got into an altercation with a 65-year-old man who was on the anti-health care team.

What happened next is not entirely clear. The initial report from KTLA, citing an unnamed witness, said the man who got his finger bitten off was walking through the anti-reform group to get to the pro-reform side and punched someone from the anti-reform side, who responded by biting off the pro-reformer's pinky.

Comment by Scoopster on 09/03/2009 13:43:49
Oh gawd I saw that just a second ago Will.. the best line in the report from KTLA was "the man took his finger and walked to Los Robles hospital for treatment."

I hope the jackass has insurance that won't cancel him for putting himself in a situation where he was likely to get in a fight.

Grijalva: White House Telling Reformers It Will Cease Support for Public Option

Last night, Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus sent out a telling press release.

"I have grave concerns about calls reportedly being made from the Administration to health care reform advocacy organizations supporting the choice of a public option insurance plan," Grijalva said.

Grijalva said the White House is telling health care reformers, "they will cease supporting the public option portion of the upcoming health care reform legislation"

To add to the list of assholes:

John Kyle

Jeb Bush

Mel Martinez

John Thrasher (local asshole, running to fill the late John King's state senate seat)

To give you an idea of the level of asshole that Thrasher is, he refers to himself as a "true, pro-life conservative. " Decoded, that means giant wingnut. There are all kinds of outside group throwing money into ads pro and con. The pro ads are hilarious! The latest one speaks of a conspiracy between "liberal trial lawyers and illegal immigrants to sue hospitals." Can you have a bigger smorgasbord of right wing talking points? Thrasher, when he was speaker of the state house of reps. was instrumental in reigning in "frivolous lawsuits" by "liberal trial lawyers." Meaning he limited people's abilities to sue corporations for damages for faulty products. Sadly he will be the next state senator for the 8th district of Florida.

Interesting concept to create a compromise, but I just don't like the idea of giving control over the fate of health care in this country to insurance companies again. Not after how they've been screwing people.

I love debunking my wingnut FB friends ijit comments on healthcare.

Him: I already Pay enough for MINE, Why should I have to pay for someone Else's?? Bad enough that I have to Pay and subsidize people who Can't and Won't work!!!

Me: Nobody is telling you that you have to, unless you make over 350,000 dollars a year. Then it is for every 50,000 a person makes over 350K. So at 400K/year the onerous additional tax burden is 1.5%.

Here's one for those biblethumping friends of ours who don't believe in "paying for other people's health care":

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

Matthew 25:31-46, The Bible (New International Version)

I was doing MSG Plus last night but the Braves-Marlins game came out of our building. Since Sun did the Rays, that game was originated from the Fox facility in Houston. We had enough problems with the Marlins pre-game. Tonight, we will be doing the Rays since it is on FSN Florida and not Sun Sports.
