Random Act of Kindness
Author: AuntAzalea    Date: 11/25/2009 13:48:44

I have been around for 51 years and I notice more and more it isn't so much the nasty, horrifying and sometimes deadly acts reported daily by our 24 hour news cycle that makes me well up it is the rare act of kindness. I thought I would share a couple of stories that touched my heart.

One is an example on how one person gives to another even if they are afraid of being taken advantage of and the other is how women can make huge differences in the lives of women in war torn Rwanda through beautiful handmade jewelry (Same Sky Bracelets).

Animals have been a major part of making my life worth living and I am always touched and grateful for the tireless work the Humane Society of the United States does. This recent story of rescued sled-dogs in Canada is just another example of the goodness still in the world.

Humane Society International and the SPCA Laurentides-Labelle partnered to rescue approximately 100 neglected sled dogs in the Upper Laurentians of Quebec. The owner was unable to care properly for his dogs and released them to the care of the SPCA LL.

"This rescue will prevent the situation from getting worse: among the dogs we took in, approximately 30 females are pregnant," said Corinne Gonzalez, executive director, SPCA LL. "Without our intervention, the owner could easily have found himself with 150 more puppies when winter is right around the corner. The SPCA LL is asking the population for financial help for part of the food and vet fees for these dogs during their stay in Val-Morin."

Rescuers are swiftly removing the dogs and transporting them to an emergency shelter in Val-Morin, where all of the dogs will receive veterinary treatment, food, water and care. As soon as possible, the dogs will be brought to rescue groups in Canada and in the United States, where they will be sterilized and adopted into loving homes.

We have a full home with rescue animals and a foster daughter and on the surface sometimes I think well I've done enough, all I can, I am bone tired. There was once a time many years ago now, that I was homeless, and hopeless and Thanksgiving was filled with violence and a sad self destructive implosion of impending doom.In some magical way it was the small kindnesses that people did for me that gradually instilled a willingness to believe that goodness exists when people act on it. I realize that the fact I have such great blessings of a stable life, a loving home and the awareness of the fragile nature of life, gives me the responsibility to share as I can and when I can't, have hope that someone else will listen to their heart and step in to help.

May your Thanksgiving Day bring you joy, love and good health.

Morning all & Happy Fridee Wednesdee!

Just a quick flashback from yesterday...

Quote by Mondobubba:

The "folks" of which you speak of, Scoop, are the forensic analysts and DNA lab people who looked at the evidence.

I didn't mean to sound like I was holding onto the idea of some shenanigans here.. I read the article more thoroughly when I got home & any possible skepticism I had is gone. The guy did it for the money. Insurance fraud. If he hadn't hanged himself in the process, I'd call for his head.

It's just that... you know these damn right wing chatterbox morons are gonna use this as an attack against us now. And it's not because of anything we did wrong - it's because this guy was willing to kill himself in such a manner and make it look political just to commit fraud.

They're going to harp on us being too hypersensitive for our own good for months over this, instead of addressing the real issue - how have people in this country become so screwed up in the brain as to pull this kind of stunt?

Good morning everyone. Quiet blog today. I guess everyone's getting ready for the holiday. It's crazy here at the house now since my housemate's daughters are here for the rest of the week (plus their cats who our cat is actually trying to get along with this time since she tends to be more a private cat). After living alone for the last 14 years, it does make for a different experience.

Scoop you bring up a good point about RWAHs (Right-Wing Ass Hats) making hay

outta this. It is a human tragedy; the poor man couldn't make ends meet so he fakes his own murder and commits suicide just to try to feed his family.

As opposed to Bush, who didn't want to pardon those turkeys. He wanted to see them suffer.

I wasn't being pejorative, Mala. I too proudly wear my geek crown and cape. I will be geeking out soon enough with a friend of mine over "Tabitha's Salon Take Over" Think Gordon Ramsey's show about turning around restaurants, but with a tough talking Aussie and hair salons. It's on Bravo.

And I am now going offline for a little while. I still have half a box of stuff to go through and I hope I can find some stuff because a lot of my computer components are still all over the place. At least now my room is starting to feel like home.

Be prepared for "The Story of a Pie" tomorrow, as told through photos uploaded to Facebook.

I'm off to the store in a few. It's sure to be a traffic nightmare, so I parked out at Alewife and have ridden the subway into town today.
