Do whatever you can.
Author: Raine    Date: 01/14/2010 13:41:03

There are no words to describe what I have been seeing.

Today, I ask you to do something, anything to help alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Haiti. That said, be aware. The FBI has -- sadly and somewhat expectedly -- issued a fraud alert. Do what you can, but heed these warnings.

Today is critical for hundreds of thousands of people in Haiti. They need water, they need shelter and they need to be rescued. You and I can only donate what little money we have, and even if it is one dollar, it will help. I fear that this is just the tip of the iceberg in regards to what we are seeing. My heart is heavy, and I wish I could do more. There are lists of ways to help all over the internet. Here is one to get you started. Please add to the list as you find more.

While tempted, I'm not posting links to the stories of devastation, or to the stories of the evil hatred I am seeing out there -- not in today's blog. Now is time to focus on helping the victims of this disaster. Now is a time to not waste energy on those that desire to see more suffering. The news will unfold on it's own as the day progresses, and I will allow for them to do their jobs.

Right now is the time when collectively we can put our energy together for those that need us most. This is one planet and one home. We must do what we can for the mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers that need help in the most desperate way.

and
Raine

With all of the injured, the Red Cross will need a lot of blood. Donate today - this is an immediate need.

I just don't understand the evil hatred of these people.

I really don't.

Hi folks.

Listening to the KeithCast; I'm rather glad I can't see the pictures today.

There is a special place in hell for Rush and Pat Robertson. I'm itching for a fight...I have right-wing relatives and I'm loaded for bear today. I'll rip them a new asshole, reach in through it, and pull out their little-used brains just so I can hold it up in front of their face so they can see how fucking retarded they are.

I have a lot of Haitian kids in my city and my Cub Scout pack...it's going to be a tough meeting tomorrow night.

Thanks for the great plea, Raine,

Although I am near broke this month, I gave a small donation in a friend's name last night to the American Friends Service Comm. I can vouch for this organization (they won the Nobel Peace Prize in the 1940s). It is a Quaker-based group - they will use your donation wisely - I assure you.

Cheers,

mfaye

I'll echo Bob's statement, and add that you should donate platelets, too.

You know I've blogged incessantly about that over the years, but since moving my regular appointment to Sundays, I don't post it on the Saturday blog much anymore.

Good morning everyone.

I really do hope there is a special place in hell for Limbaugh and Robertson for their disgusting racist crap. They are the typical cons who only care about themselves and feel everyone else can just as Scrooge would say "die and decrease the surplus population".

Did you see what producerchris put on his twitter feed in response to Robertson

A curious thing about this earthquake.....they don't respect borders usually. So why is Haiti destroyed while the other half of Hispanola got off with nary a scratch?

Perhaps a checking of the geology of the island is in order.

Dominican Republic has a better infrastructure as well I think. Plus the epicenter I believe was near Port Au Prince.

The fault was also fairly near the surface, so it was much more localized.

Kudos to Dell (who I work for now). They are giving half a million each to UNICEF and to the Red Cross, and they are matching dollar for dollar their employees' contributions, and have set up access to a charity to do this, and are covering the operating expenses associated with these gifts so that 100% of the gift and the match go to the people in Haiti.

Well done.

Watching clips from the Glenn Beck-Sarah Palin interview. Did he actually say to her "Did I just finger you?"
