Velveeta is vertically inclined on the fainting couch with a headache. Open Blog

But, stay on that couch.... 'cause in just a few short hours: TONY AWARDS!!
Here are my picks.

BEST PLAY "Jerusalem"

"Book of Mormon" for BEST MUSICAL

"Book of Mormon" for BEST BOOK and BEST ORIGINAL SCORE as well as BEST ORCHESTRATIONS.

For BEST REVIVAL (PLAY) I am rooting for my buddy Joe starring in "The Normal Heart", but it's a tough field.

BEST REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL "Anything Goes" (Don't get me started on how much I loathe this story and most of the music. Just don't... Still, it'll win. Bleh.) But I'll be pulling for "How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying".

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE IN A PLAY should go to Mark Rylance, in "Jerusalem", but they will give it to Al Pacino in "The Merchant of Venice".

BEST PERFORMANCE - ACTRESS - IN A LEADING ROLE (PLAY)
Frances McDormand, "Good People"

BEST PERFORMANCE - ACTOR -IN A LEADING ROLE (MUSICAL)
Josh Gad, "The Book of Mormon". Josh is, in my opinion, a young Nathan Lane.

BEST PERFORMANCE - ACTRESS - LEADING ROLE IN A MUSICAL
Sutton Foster, "Anything Goes" is another shoe-in. No one can beat this amazing voice!

BEST PERFORMANCE - ACTOR - FEATURED ROLE (PLAY)
John Benjamin Hickey, "The Normal Heart"

Ellen Barkin will win for BEST PERFORMANCE FOR AN ACTRESS IN A FEATURED ROLE (PLAY) for "The Normal Heart"

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A FEATURED ROLE IN A MUSICAL
John Larroquette, "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" The ACTRESS category should go to Patti LuPone for "Women on the Verge..." though I hear Victoria Clark is excellent in "Sister Act".

BEST DIRETOR OF A PLAY will go to Joel Grey for "The Normal Heart" but I'm rooting for Daniel Sullivan because he is just such a fun guy to work for. (I mean, allegedly).

Trey Parker will take the award along with Casey Nicholaw for "The Book of Mormon" for BEST DIRECTION OF A MUSICAL.

BEST CHOREOGRAPHY will go to Rob Ashford for "How to Succeed in Business..."

Now for my favorite parts:

BEST COSTUME DESIGN (MUSICAL): Tim Chappel & Lizzy Gardiner, "Priscilla Queen of the Desert"

BEST COSTUME DESIGN (PLAY): Mark Thompson, "La Bête"

BEST LIGHTING DESIGN (MUSICAL): Brian MacDevitt will win for "The Book of Mormon", but just between you, me and the internets.... he could have done better.

BEST LIGHTING DESIGN (PLAY): Paule Constable, "War Horse"

BEST SCENIC DESIGN (MUSICAL): Scott Pask, "The Book of Mormon".

BEST SCENIC DESIGN (PLAY): Todd Rosenthal for "The Motherfucker with the Hat".

The fun things to look for, if you're a novice to the Tony Awards and Broadway in general, is the mistakes made during the live show. You see, the Tony's barely warrant being broadcast on major media, so they have to make the show as exciting and as daring and as busy as possible. This makes for many mistakes and injuries. Watch for someone to get badly hurt at every scene change.

As, NPH says, "this show couldn't be any gayer if they elected Liza as Mayor"
