Although I hate to repeat myself, I just want to remind everyone of the 1st Rule of the Internet - DO NOT READ THE COMMENTS SECTION. It's heartbreaking and makes you angry and depressed. This has been a bad week to break that rule.
This past week has seen some of the worst ugliness about race and religion, so much so that I honestly don't believe I live in the United States of America anymore. They say those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. With the rewriting of so many textbooks to accommodate extreme beliefs, I fear we are doomed to repeat many lessons at the expense of many lives.
It's a horrible thing to think. I want to be positive and hope for better things. I thought we'd been through some dark days under Bush II, but looking back those days seem just overcast, the pending gray clouds before a hurricane of a storm as it were.
I worry that the voices of the gentle, the kind, and the loving are being drowned by the hysteria of hate and fear. It's all so overwhelming.
Where do we even start to turn this around? The best thing that I can do right now is just send hugs (virtual and otherwise) to everyone. I know it seems silly in the face of what's going on in the world, but it's just a small bit comfort for someone who needs it.
