Sly, like a............

Velveeta was all set to write another installment of "A Southern Ladies Guide to Gentleman Callers" but was then stymied by the scandalous information about FOX news. Apparently, FOX News™ may not be "Fair And Balanced" after all! It seems they might be a tool of the right-wing branch of neo-cons. I for one, am shocked!

So, with fainting couch close at hand, I read the accusations. Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan admitted that the White House used FOX commentators as their spokespeople, feeding them information that they wanted the American audience to hear, regardless of any "facts". Mr. McClellan, aka Puffy McMoonFace, recently told Chris Matthews on Hardball, "There were (FOX) commentators and pundits who were useful to the White House...... we were getting them Talking Points."

Well, Mr. Puffy McMoonFace (so called because of his overly round face, and his penchant for blowing up like a Puffer fish when he is caught in a lie) should know. He would have been the one issuing the memos.

Wikipedia defines Talking Points as "a neologism for an idea which may or may not be factual, usually compiled in a short list with summaries of a speaker's agenda for public or private engagements. Public relations professionals, for example, sometimes prepare "talking points memos" for their clients to help them more effectively conform public presentations with this advice"

Indeed, the "Talking Point" has proven to be quite effective in repressive regimes that want to keep people either lulled into complacency, or revved up to kill your neighbor on a whim. These tactics have worked well in the former USSR (Pravda), the Third Reich, (Nazi Propaganda), and Cuba (Cuban News Agency), to name but a few. Looks like FOX NEWS may soon join the ranks of these old ships.

Let's looks at how this might work; lets say the Bush/Cheney Regime, er, I mean, the White House, wants you to believe that monkeys regularly fly out of Barack Obama's ass. They would send a memo to FOX which would read something like this:

White House memo: Monkeys regularly fly out of Barack Obama's ass.

Which would end up on The Factor like this:

Bill O'Reilly: "Now most of you are aware that monkeys have been known to fly out of Barack Obama's ass quite often - I've informed you of this time and again. And anyone who doesn't know this is either dopey or not paying attention."

And then on FOX "news" like this:

Brit Hume: "It was revealed earlier today, that once again, monkeys might have been flying out of Barack Obama's ass. More on that later........"

And of course on the ubiquitous crawl at the bottom of the screen:

Some say that monkeys have been flying out of Barack Obama's ass.

Repeat it often enough and mix in just enough "reality" TV, an voila!, instant Freeper!

Note how they use hypothetical situational verbs and tenses like "might" and "some say". Why - it sounds like they are actually reporting news, when in fact, some would say......... they are NOT!

And FOX News they did this again and again. For example, they repeatedly fed us this old yarn about how Saddam/Iraq had a hand in the attack on Sept. 11, 2001. Back in March and April of 2003 FOX began to show that France was in bed with Saddam Hussein. Of course, the White House was angry at France who had opposed the invasion of Iraq from the start. So, FOX begins running old footage of Saddam Hussein's September 1975 trip to Paris to meet with (then Mayor of Paris) Jacques Chirac and tour a nuclear power plant. Curiously, and despite FOX's claim to be "Fair and Balanced," they failed to inform us about another trip four years later, this one to Baghdad on December 19, 1983 made by Reagan envoy Donald Rumsfeld. They also inexplicably forgot to tell us about another trip by Rummy to Baghdad, this time on March 24, 1984, the very same day that a U.N. team found that Iraqi forces had used mustard gas laced with a nerve agent on Iranian soldiers.

And looky, there's even a picture of the happy day!

For all the patriotism that FOX seems to endlessly parade at us via flag pins, flying flag graphics, and Patriotic music, they don't actually want to hear what every American has to say. Especially if you're black!

Oh! To be a fly on the wall at a FOX board of directors meeting:

Winfred: Oh my God. There's black people in America! But maybe they won't notice when we continually say racist things.
Dalton: You mean like calling Michelle Obama a "baby momma"?
Bunny: Or saying that the Obama's little love gesture is a "terrorist fist jab"?

Well, recently the group Color of Change started a petition drive to tell Fox News chief Roger Ailes to stop these incessant racist smears. They hoped for 100,000 signatures and received over 600,000. But, when rapper Nas tried to deliver the 19 boxes of signed petitions to FOX headquarters, he was not surprisingly, turned away. (He was later welcomed by Stephan Colbert on one of the best Colbert Reports ever.)

What ever will it take to get these corporate hacks, haters and whores off of our TV machines? Both Left and Right are unethical to trade OUR news for THEIR propaganda! The airwaves belong to us and we must demand that they remain ours.

And must we continue to endure the likes of the Scotty McClellans of the world that will stand up and lie to the American people, all while calling themselves “Patriots” and buying more stock in the military industrial complex? Only then to coincidently get a conscience and a book deal at the same time?

Why, next thing you know, they'll be after the internet and blogs; paying me to write what I'm told! And then you'd miss out on next weeks blog, where Velveeta will be writing about Antebellum Needlepoint!

Not to be missed!!
