Filibuster the Auto bailout? Richard Shelby wants it. You wanna know why?
Author: Raine    Date: 12/09/2008 01:46:11

First, please watch this short video:

Alabama has plants for Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes and Toyota. They bring in a lot of money for the state as well as the citizens of that state. No problem you say? Wait.

EVERY damn one of them are NON union plants. No unions. Alabama is a "Right -to-Work" state. that means that you have the right to work if you don't upset the apple cart. It does NOT welcome Unions... Right to work means quite the opposite, it means you have the right to work if you do not question management .

Ask yourself now, why is Shelby so badly wanting to filibuster? Why does Shelby want Detroit to fail? Who does Richard Shelby REALLY represent? The United States or Japan, South Korea and Germany? Does he really care about the workers in his state? Does he care about Workers in America in general?

I got news for him... if he is busy trying to protect those automakers... (note... I did NOT mention the workers) and somehow thinking that he is doing a good thing... he should understand something... his union busting is not going to help his state. Why? The companies that he wants to see die off are doing about as well as the NON union companies in his State
Sales of cars built in Alabama by Mercedes, Hyundai and Honda are down 38% from a year ago.

Sales of Honda's minivan, Odyssey, which is made in Alabama, are down 46 % over last year. The Hyundai Sonata, made in Alabama has seen sales plummet by 55% from a year ago and their Santa Fe SUV has seen a drop of 42%.

Alabama-made Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV sales fell 33% from last year.

In total, Honda's overall sales in November dropped 31.7% from the previous month and Hyundai's dropped 40%. Ford sales fell 31% and Toyota sales dropped 33%.

Alabama's Senator Shelby believes the government should not lend money to the Michigan automakers. He proposes that they go into bankruptcy instead and then restructure. A bankruptcy and reorganization isn't however, a panacea. Bankruptcy and reorganization would mean layoffs and in some cases, closings.

Alabamians typically think that the loss of the big 3 automakers in Michigan wouldn't affect them. But the failure of any or all of the big 3 U.S. automakers would hurt a lot of people. There are thousands of dealerships across the country that would be adversely affected if not closed altogether, including those in Alabama. It is also important to note that GM spent $498 million in Alabama during the first 3 quarters of this year. Chrysler spent $765 million in Alabama this year and Ford says its annual spending in Alabama is around $1 billion.
Uh oh. You think He will support the bailout of foreign companies? It could happen.

One would think -- for a small moment at least -- that a Senator would actually TRY to represent the workers of his state, right? Oh yeah.. I forgot. It's a right to work state.. a senator doesn't have to represent it's workers. They cannot roganize to represent themselves in any meaningful way, so Shelby, as in any "right to work state" just has to represent the money. That money NEVER ever comes from the Unions.. (What incentive is there to worry about the people? )

I am learing this everyday... I live in Georgia now. We get Saxby for 6 more years. It should be noted that in the time I lived down here (2.5 years) I have watched Ford, as well as GM, close plants down. The Ford Plant is being refurbed for a new Hyundai Plant. Yeah... the same company that has a non Union shop in Alabama. It's elaborate Union Busting. GM and Ford were both Union shops before they were closed in Georgia.

I am left wondering who-- besides Shelby -- are behind the possible filibuster of the bailout. Are they seeing this as a way to finally put the stake in the heart of Unions?

I want a powerful union Movement brought BACK to America. If it means saving Detroit, then I am all for it. Alabama is doing Noting for the Worker's movement on the USA.

Richard Shelby is doing even less for ALL of America.

:peace: and
Raine
