Good Morning.

The fallout from the attack a week ago continues.

I, (name), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the president of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

Every recruit that joins the US Military takes this oath. So, what to make of something like this?

Army officials at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, are investigating a psychological operations captain for her involvement in the Washington, D.C., rally that led to the violent breach of the U.S. Capitol last week.

In the aftermath of the riot, Army officials pledged to investigate whether any soldiers joined hundreds of Trump supporters in pushing past law enforcement officers to enter the Capitol and smash windows, damage offices and force lawmakers to halt their official count of Electoral College votes in order to shelter in place.

"I can confirm our command is investigating the involvement of Capt. Emily Rainey at the Capitol on Jan. 6," Maj. Dan Lessard, a spokesman for 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne), said in a statement to Military.com.

Rainey, who is assigned to the 4th Psychological Operations Group at Bragg, told The Associated Press on Sunday that she had a right to attend the rally.

"I was a private citizen and doing everything right and within my rights," Rainey told the AP.

Sorry. This is an act of treason. Since the army knows where she is, it's easy to arrest her and charge her under the military code of justice. In turn, all rights and privileges need to be stripped, she should be dishonorably discharged, and indeed - treated like so many traitors and turncoats throughout our history.

But as the clock ticks ever-closer to January 20, more insurrection is expected. All 50 states were put on notice to expect violent attacks at their state capitols in the coming days. Boston and Governor Baker have been tight-lipped about any such preperations (why give away strategy to the enemy?), but at the very least - our state capitol building is relatively easily defended. We are the literal "City on a Hill", for whatever that's worth.

State capitols across the nation stepped up security Monday, deploying National Guard units, SWAT teams and extra police officers as several legislatures convened amid heightened safety concerns following last week’s violence at the U.S. Capitol.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee activated hundreds of National Guard troops to help state police keep order at the state Capitol and defend security fencing. At least two people were arrested, including a woman who, according to state police, used a recreational vehicle to block a roadway and refused to comply with orders to move.

Later, about 20 people gathered outside the security fencing, including a man who tried to walk past authorities as lawmakers were to begin their session. He was taken into custody after shouting “I have every right to witness this.”

At the Georgia Capitol, a state patrol SWAT team walked the perimeter wearing fatigues and carrying rifles while lawmakers gathered inside for the start of a two-year term.

Legislatures convened in more than half a dozen states. Because of concerns about the coronavirus, many state capitols had already adopted procedures to curb the potential for large crowds, including arranging for lawmakers to meet remotely. Those steps greatly reduced the number of people who are actually working in capitol buildings.

After insurrectionists backing President Donald Trump overran the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, some governors and lawmakers began ramping up security because of online threats suggesting that more mobs could target state capitols.

As for me - I haven't left my house unarmed since the crisis began. (And I mean coronavirus.) I keep my machete by the front door, and I have a club and a combat dagger in my car.

While it might make no difference should the "Battle of Gardencrest" come to my door - I know what hill I am prepared to die on. How about you?
