It's President Biden's Problem Now.
Author: Raine    Date: 03/18/2021 13:01:50

President Biden, when he took office, also took on a lot of problems the former guy created. Among the most urgent was our immigration system. It was in bad shape before 2017, but in the ensuing four years, it was badly broken, nearly dismantled, and destroyed by the executive branch.

Kids were still in cages when Mr. Biden took office. They became his responsibility. Any logical thinking person would know that this cannot be fixed overnite and certainly not in under 100 days, although I wish it could. As of late February, only 105 of the almost 700 missing parents of migrant children had been found, for starters.

There is a crisis. Is it Joe Biden's fault? No. Is it his responsibility? Yes, but don't expect the media to frame it that way.

Kids are still in cages.

Tuesday, the President told people not to come to the US.
"I can say quite clearly: Don't come," Biden told ABC in an interview aired on Tuesday.

The President continued: "We're in the process of getting set up, don't leave your town or city or community." (snip)

Many of those migrants have headed toward the US believe that Biden's administration will be more welcoming than his predecessor's more hardline posture. The President tried to downplay that perception during the interview, telling ABC's George Stephanopoulos "they're not" coming because they think his administration will allow them to stay in the country.

During a gaggle aboard Air Force One on Tuesday following Biden's comments, White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked by CNN's Kevin Liptak why the President has delayed raising refugee caps, following the news that hundreds of refugees approved to come into the US have been taken off flights and told to wait for Biden's sign off. Psaki said Biden has delayed raising the current cap on refugees because "we want to do it in an effective manner."
Also at issue (and I want to wait for more information) is the issue with border agents and whether or not the media can visit the sites that are housing the children. Earlier this week it appeared as tho it was a directive from the Administration, but that doesn't seem to be quite clear.
The Biden administration is restricting the information Border Patrol agents and sector chiefs can share with the media as a surge of migrants tests the agency's capacity at the southern border, two current and two former Customs and Border Protection officials told NBC News.

The officials say the restrictions are seen as an unofficial "gag order" and are often referred to that way among colleagues. The officials requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media about the topic.

Border Patrol officials have been told to deny all media requests for "ride-alongs" with agents along the southern border; local press officers are instructed to send all information queries, even from local media, to the press office in Washington for approval; and those responsible for cultivating data about the number of migrants in custody have been reminded not to share the information with anyone to prevent leaks, the officials said.
Due to the last maladministration, I am not at a level of trust with this agency just yet. With everything such a mess, I personally don't believe the administration is trying to hide anything per say, they just need to put the fires out and get things in order.

Did I mention the kids are still in cages? I don't want them there either; however, they need an organized safe place to go. You know who that job belongs to? The head of Health and Human Services. HHS is the agency responsible for the care and custody of unaccompanied minors who arrive at the border.

President Biden nominated Xavier Becerra for that cabinet position. He has not been confirmed to do the job. The vote should come today even with GOP opposition.

Is it any wonder why the GOP has delayed this confirmation? Is it any wonder why Kevin McCarthy went to the border with his merry band of facists and screamed that this was a crisis of Biden's creation?

It's all a political play for them. They want to take a horrible inhumane situation created by the former guy and try to pin it on our new President. It is shameless, opportunistic, and awful.

And, the kids are still in cages.
