As we enter that last weekend before Christmas, it's time to wake up the extremely small music department here at 4F. Since I quoted it already, let's jump right into Frank Sinatra's version of the Christmas Waltz. The best version out there, of course. (Fight me.)



Frank, of course, is a fine Italian gentleman. So that leads me to veer this blog immediately into the ditch with our next selection. Love him or hate him, there's no denying that Dominick the Donkey can be just as divisive as TFG. Count me as a part of "Team Hee-Haw", though.




But let's move on. Christmas is many things to many people. For me, it's all about the traditions. Javi is coming home from school today, and after that I'll be diving right in to the mountain of baking I need to do for the holiday. Although all my grandparents and my mother are now long gone - I still take comfort in the fact that in every Italian household, there is somebody making the same things as me for their holiday gatherings.

Christmas also has a dark side. Because of the festivities, the least among us are often highlighted as society tries to "do something" to make their lives a little better, if even for a day. While the sentiment is nice, it often just shines a spotlight on how much work we still have to do as a society. Music has been written about that, too. The Prince of Darkness has a Christmas tune, perhaps the most anti-Christmas song ever recorded. It's good music to these ears, though - and features the most brutal lyric of them all.

"It's a time when the greedy give a dime to the needy." I wonder if Jeff Bezos even knows this song exists?
