In Compliance

Last night Ari Melber had an incredible segment. It was twelve minutes long, and made many important points about policing in America. It's well worth the watch.

The crux of it was this:
Trump, Melber noted, was given multiple opportunities to just comply and turn over the documents sought by the feds.

“We know the attorney general said they had already tried less intrusive means and then only went in because Trump was not complying,” Melber said.

Similarly, former Trump adviser Peter Navarro complained about his own arrest in June on Fox News.

“Which is the same place where viewers had been lectured so many times on how to avoid exactly those problems with police: Just say ‘Yes sir, yes officer’ and comply,” Melber noted, then shared a supercut video of Fox News voices saying exactly that.

The difference? That “just comply” advice was in response to police shootings of Black Americans.

“The hypocrisy and the double-standard here matters,” Melber said. “It is political and it is racial.”
Here is the segment:

Melber comparing the defiance of the MAGAt's and toward legal proceedings to what happens to people of color who "fail to comply." is not just hypocrisy. It is the epitome of white supremacy from a place in the political world once known as the GOP. Hypocrisy is just one of the tools in their authoritarian toolbox.

If only Breonna Taylor and countless other black Americans had been allowed to comply, they would be as alive as the very awful and guilty Steve Bannon and countless others in MAGA world. There are facts to back it up as shown above. I know the wheels of justice can be slow, but everyone should be able to have access to the wheels.
