Boston is still strong

Good morning.

Ten years ago today, two brothers from Chechnya tried to terrorize the city of Boston.

They failed.

The initial chaos of the event was handled as swiftly and professionally as possible. The incident occurred about a quarter-mile from the finish line of the Boston Marathon, and there were hundreds of emergency personnel and law enforcement milling about, waiting to care for the thousands of runners about to arrive in Copley Square.

Yes, it was chaos - but it was not a big challenge for those professionals to react. Boston's largest industry is the healthcare industry, and with 30,000 people running that day, all the hospitals in the city were already on full alert and in "mass-casualty" mode.

But five people were still killed.

The city went into full-bore combat mode. Of course, we remember the shutdown and the manhunt that took place a few days later, not very far from where I live.

So ten years on, what are we doing today? It is once again marathon weekend (Monday). It's Fan-fest this weekend all over the city. Today is the actual anniversary, so a lot of events are happening all around.

BOSTON —
The city of Boston and the Boston Athletic Association will honor the victims and survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing on Saturday as it marks 10 years since the attack.

On One Boston Day of Remembrance, two remembrance events will be held to commemorate the day.

The first will be an early morning private gathering and wreath laying at the memorial sites for the families who lost loved ones at the 2013 Boston Marathon. Honor guards made up of first responders from Boston and neighboring areas will be present at the memorial sites throughout the day.

After the B.A.A. 5K, the city will open Boylston Street between Dartmouth and Fairfield Streets for members of the public to visit the memorial sites.

At 2:30 p.m., the public is invited to join members of the One Fund Community, Mayor Michelle Wu, Gov. Maura Healey, first responders, hospital leaders, B.A.A. leadership and local running groups at the Boston Marathon Finish Line for a dedication of a new commemorative finish line, the ringing of bells and the unveiling of a One Boston Day marker on Boylston Street.

A brass quartet from the Boston Pops, along with members of the Boston City Singers Tour Choir, will perform a selection of music in remembrance of April 15, 2013.

Community members and the general public are encouraged to attend these events as we reflect, remember and celebrate the strength and unity of Boston.

City officials are again emphasizing community service and acts of kindness to mark the day.

Perhaps the most iconic moment of all came after it was all said and done.

THIS IS OUR FUCKING CITY.
