It's been a busy few weekends. Sorry there hasn't been much action on the blog. Rather proud of last weekend - your Silver Beaver Cafe got an emergency call at the beginning of the week, a gentleman running food service for a 300-scout event had to back out under duress. (His wife is still in-hospital.) Can the cafe save my bacon?
Turns out we could, and on short notice we put together a better menu, shopped, and showed up at camp to keep everyone happy and well-fed. It's what we do.
But that contrasts heavily with what's been happing on the ol' campus of Bentley. The "Prime Team" that I drive for is full of longtime, experienced drivers and transportation people. I'm actually the LEAST experienced among them with nine years in the seat.
It pales in comparison to our corporate overlords. The Transportation Director at the college has....a culinary background. His new boss is an MBA with zero transportation experience. They've gone and blown up the routes and the schedules, and it's been an absolute shitshow every day this semester.
I noted recently.....I don't know about pronouns, but my adjectives have been "malicious", "compliant", and "pedantic.".
What makes it worse is that the night driver is a complete fuckup. His nickname on the day crew is "shithead". Anyway - he goes off route, skips stops, drives aggressively and recklessly, and generates all the complaints. None of the higher-ups work the night shift, so they see all the complaints in the morning, and guess who is under the microscope all day to see what is wrong? I'm getting pretty tired of taking the fall and making excuses for him.
But that means somewhere else might benefit. You remember my catastrophic last days driving trolley tours. I have since become the stuff of legend. I was in-town about a month ago, and I visited the Ghost tours, where I ran across a new driver. I introduced myself as "Used to be Cubbie", and she had a silly grin on her face and said, "I've heard about you." In any case - you know that job ate my soul, and it took me two years of darkness to get it back. "Good Cubbie" drives for Logan Express now (Yankee Bus), and I'll be doing so tomorrow in the storm.
I've already talked to all my bosses in South Boston - and they'll be glad to have me back full-time.
Only time will tell where I go now.
