Beck and the Becktones

Which would be a great name for a band should Glenn Beck ever decide to start one. Other good names: Beck and the Batshit Crazies, The Glenn Beck Screamers, The Delusionals.

Glenn Beck and his band of "pundits no one has ever heard of" continue to rain their terror predictions on us. This week: Americorps is the Left equivalent of Schutzstaffel". No, really. He is indeed implying that. This is not culled from The Onion, though I really wish it were.

Here's the clip:

Now, as we remember the devastating destruction of Hurricane Katrina/Rita that took place this week 4 years ago, I will tell you that as a Red Cross volunteer I went to New Orleans and worked hand in hand alongside some of the fine Americorps folks. A group of smart and caring kids that you'd be prouder than punch if they were your own. Mostly in their teens to early 20's and with girls greatly outnumbering boys. Girls with hair tied back in pony tails, dirty sweaty t-shirts and cargo shorts with mud caked on them and battered work gloves hanging from the pockets. These volunteers (Beck viewers: that means they don't get paid - unlike the Nazi SS) worked 12-16 hour days in some of the worst conditions you can imagine. Remember, there was no electricity, so no escape from the heat - ever.

Yeah, they really looked like scary SS troops to me.

On the show, Beck says "Americorps has just received half a trillion dollars in funding." Oddly, they don't mention that at all on the Americorps website. Half a trillion dollars would put Americorps in the same league as the Pentagon!

Well, someone must must have their information wrong. According to the website, dated July 21, 2009:

On May 7, President Obama submitted to Congress a budget request of $1.149 billion for the Corporation and its programs, a $259 million or 29 percent increase over the FY 2009 enacted level. The President’s budget would strengthen and expand existing programs and invest in key initiatives authorized by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act.

Last Friday, the House Appropriations Committee approved the FY 2010 Labor, HHS, Education Appropriations bill that funds national service. The House bill includes $1.059 billion for the Corporation and its programs, a $169 million increase over the current fiscal year, but $90 million less than the President’s request.

Now, I've never been a math wizard, but that doesn't sound like "half a trillion" dollars to me. Beck later corrected himself - must have been a fuzzy spot on his telepromter. But, as usual, the listeners to his show already had that "HALF A TRILLION DOLLARS" firmly implanted in their brain.

You know what group once used scary propaganda to stir up the masses? The nazi SS. Just sayin'.......
