What am I missing?
Author: Raine    Date: 05/20/2010 12:29:42

This week we've seen the resignation of Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) , a staunch family values Republican for having an affair with a member of his staff. This is a man who wanted to change the constitution to protect the institution of marriage and even filmed a video with the woman he was having an affair with for his cause.

I don't think I need to point out the hypocrisy with this one. What amazed me is that yesterday, the CEO of Concerned Women for America came out with a statement :
“I am deeply saddened by the news of Congressman Mark Souder’s fall into the temptation of an affair. Those of us who have worked with Mark over the years know him to be a kind and thoughtful legislator. If Mark Souder is capable of sexual misconduct, it could happen to anyone. The frat house environment on Capitol Hill does nothing to encourage accountability. Most Members do not live with their families while they are working in D.C. during the week and have even ditched common rules of etiquette that even major corporations follow such as office doors with windows or careful examination of employee/boss interaction.

“There are many Americans running for office this year who want to bring integrity and family values back to Washington. I challenge any incumbents who manage to escape the wrath of the American people to guard their hearts and reputations and to live by higher standards that reflect the traditional moral values our country holds so dear.”

“In addition, as a Christian I believe that we are all fallen and in need of redemption. I join the countless others now and throughout ages past who cling diligently to the hope of grace and redemption.”
Dave Weigal of the WaPo points out a problem with this concern:
The interviews aired in his district -- where Jackson lives -- but that has nonetheless convinced Concerned Women of America, a beltway conservative group run by Penny Nance, that Souder was brought down by Capitol Hill itself.[snip]

It goes without saying that very few of the members who live like this engage in sexual misconduct. And once again -- Jackson lives in Souder's district, not in Washington.
Thank you for your concern ladies-- It's good to know Capitol Hill is so powerful, that the man lost any control over himself. Basically, CWA are blaming a city for his actions.

Then we have the Salahis - Remember them? the White House Gate crashers? Well it seems as tho they think the President owes THEM an apology:
Six months after their escapade at the last state dinner -- and on the eve of the next -- the polo-playing, winery-feuding future reality-TV stars gave a video interview Tuesday to RadarOnline suggesting that the White House owes them an apology.

As in other interviews, the Northern Virginians continued to insist (without proof) that they were invited, but this time they also accused the Obamas of bad manners. "I certainly wouldn't treat anyone this way that comes to my house, even if there was a question about an invitation," said Tareq -- never minding the fact that the White House did admit him and his wife without an invitation, and that's what started this whole mess. Added Michaele: "Even if they weren't on the list at Oasis [Winery], you'd find a spot for them....The American way is to love people."
Ah, I See The Obamas are un-American?

And now onto the Palin's. First up Bristol:
Bristol Palin is hitting the speakers' circuit and will command between $15,000 and $30,000 for each appearance, Palin family attorney Thomas Van Flein said Monday. [snip]

He said he believes she's interested in expanding her message beyond teen pregnancy to include her experiences on the campaign trail and in the media spotlight; her parenting approach; and her outlook on life.
So you see, getting knocked up in High School, dropping out of school and no college degree now gives the life experience to go on a speaking tour. I should mention that these speaking fees are more than Jenna Bush's and Mehgan McCain's - both who actually grew up in the political world. I think that these ladies have earned the right to speak on political issues, they lived in fishbowls for much of their lives. But Bristol? Has she ever even taken a public speaking course - or ANY college course for that matter?

And now the other Palin:
Hannity went on to talk about “the race that I am most interested in tonight… and that is the Pennsylvania 12 race. And here you have John Murtha’s old seat, he held for all these years – two-to-one Democrat to Republican in the district. It’s literally neck and neck… If Burns pulls this off tonight, what would that say to you?”

Palin's answer revealed that she thought Burns was running against Specter: “I think Burns will pull this off tonight. And just like the Rand-slide that we were just talking about, you’re gonna see Burns, having this representation of a smaller, smarter government, getting the economy back on the right track with limited overreach of the governments (sic). That’s what Burns stands for. And, you know, Specter, he was a representative of bigger government, even when he was within the Republican Party. And people are saying, 'When you consider what it is that he stood for and voted on and represented, enough is enough.' That’s not what our country needs today. We need someone like Tim Burns in there. And you’re gonna see that via vote today with the electorate.”
Interesting analysis. Maybe a little studying before going on air might have been in order.

So, let's wrap this up, a man has an affair, and it's Washington's fault for not having windows on office doors (thus creating a "Frat House" environment). A couple crash a party and it's the White House's fault for not being more gracious and then they go onto being Reality TV celebs. A single unwed teen mother can go on to speak on the virtues of Abstinence. A woman can quit her job as Governor halfway thru her term and become a political analyst without knowing who's running for office?

I'm not picking on people. I'm trying to understand this. I was raised to take responsibility for the things that I do, something that used to be a cornerstone of a certain political party. Instead, I am seeing an epidemic out there of people being excused or rewarded for hypocrisy, cheating and/or lying.

Am I missing something here?

and
Raine

Morning, comrades.

We saw this under Bush; They take pride in being too stupid to walk upright and use simple hand tools.

Morning

oh, my sides hurt! Let me get off the floor, I was laughing so hard at Tareq I fell out of my chair! *fans self*

Tareq's a self-important ass, unless you can do something for him he barely acknowleges your existance. I saw a news report the other night that they are now being investigated by the USDA WIne not Gate-Crashing

This is Oasis Winery btw, they don't have any events planned for this year so far and you can't even get a tour - shocker since Tareq loves to hear himself talk - I have to wonder about the wine they have for sale online since I've heard from some people that the vines are dead, personally I wouldn't drink it and I know very little about wine. If you look at the photo tour you'll see its mostly pix of Tareq and Michaele and the lake they refer to I seem to remeber a large pond that was nice to have a BBQ by and where my boss fell of the little blow up boat and into - I will say that the winery when I went there was beautiful and we had alot of fun but I attribute that to the people I work with and not the hosts.

Tareq also forgets to mention that he doesn't own Oasis any more so he has no say in who is welcome there or not. Yes, I know for a fact that they will be on RHWDC - I work with someone who knows one of the crew. they are publicity hounds always have been and I suspect always will be

Surprisingly enough, CWA is right about the damn doors.

In the early 90s, there were a number of high profile Boy Scout abuse cases...National instituted a new youth protection program, and one of the tenets was "two-deep" leadership...meaning you always had two adults present when there was an individual meeting with a scout. It was also directed at the same time that no meetings could take place in a closed office. So, we took a circular saw to the Scoutmaster's office door (Troop 61) and cut him a window. We never did put a pane of glass in it.

A white/grey tiger mix. top of his head is tiger, two splotches of tiger down his right side. (So if looking at his left side, you will see nothing but white) and tail is tiger.

I find it kinda funny that I actually know Tareq (who I think ignored me the first 2 or 3 times he came to the office until he found out I was the assistant to the VP and Pres then he talked to me only to look polite to them ) I mean we didn't hang out or anything but via work. You should have seen the website they used to have when they got engaged and married! They went to like 3 continents on some big tour around the world or something it was SSSOOOOOOO "look at me" people were laughing at it and them.

At least they seem now to be like a nearly endless source of entertainment.

Not sure when RHWDC is on I'll ask to see if my co-worker knows, you know it's gonna probably do really well ratings wise with all this free press.

Hey, have you seen the Bravo ads for the show about the search for the next great American artist ( and again )

Good morning all.

It seems like the GOP is becoming more naked in its hypocrisy. If I preach family values, maybe I can get some side action. Then again I don't even have a girlfriend much less a wife. But I do have a cat who likes human companionship as long as she warms up to you and she did to me very quickly.

BP had stuck by its first estimate that some 5,000 barrels, or 210,000 gallons, a day of crude was leaking from the well - despite claims from several experts that the figure was at least 10 times higher.

But BP spokesman Mark Proegler told news agency AFP on Thursday: "Now that we are collecting 5,000 barrels a day, it might be a little more than that."
