A Rapist's Bill of Rights
Author: BobR    Date: 10/01/2010 10:21:53

RNC For Life is a PAC that focuses on one specific issue: abortion. They understand very well that peoples' positions on abortion are not black & white. They run the full range from "anyone, anytime" to "nobody, never". Most people fall somewhere in between. You'd think it would be uncommon and extreme to deny a woman an abortion if she had been raped or the pregnancy resulted from incest. According to the PAC's score-sheet of those currently in or running for office, however, there at least 78 GOP candidates who feel just that way. To them, it is more important that the rapist gets to be a father than the victim gets to purge themselves of their attacker's seed. Dr. Drew Weston refers to this type of legal approach as a rapist's Bill of Rights.

How could anyone be so callous and unsympathetic to an assault victim? Is this good politics? Perhaps they don't think this will reverberate with the voters, and it's an easy "win" position for their absolutist base. That would be a foolish approach to take. According to statistics, 1 out of every 3 women will be sexually assaulted within her lifetime (1 in 4 college women). That's a BIG chunk of voters. Over 60% of rape victims are under the age of 18 (ie: which means they are going to the poll with this horror fresh in their minds). Besides being astoundingly cold-hearted, this "no abortions ever" approach seems like political suicide.

That is - unless the voters don't know where the candidate stands.

The RNC For Life thinks they are doing abortion opponents a service by putting politician's feet to the fire. But - they are doing us who support not limiting choices and options a favor as well. We can see which politicians are on OUR side, and we can see which are willing to go on the record as apparently favoring rapists.

Sexual predators come in many guises, including trusted school teachers, and the children that are the victims have suffered enough. It's inhuman (and inhumane) to force them to carry their rapist's child.

Think about when you were young. Think about your daughter or your niece. Think about your wife or girlfriend....

Then look at the list and take action. Let people know where their candidate stands. You have less than 5 weeks.

Morning

Again this just boils down to just the hatefulness of people.

Comment by Raine on 10/01/2010 12:27:27
83% of rape cases are women 24 and younger.

I am so sick of these people telling me that a cluster of cells is more important than I am.

*sigh*

Such arguments often fall on deaf ears. "Jesus". He trumps everything.

I've had a similar argument with a gay friend of mine who inexplicably is still a practicing Roman Catholic. We rarely discuss religion anymore.

Speaking of the Bullying of Gay students... What does one make of it when and Assistant State Attorney General Does it?

Michigan Assistant Attorney General Andrew Shirvell has taken a voluntary leave of absence after generating national attention over a controversial blog that ridicules and denounces the University of Michigan's student body president.

Joy Yearout, a spokeswoman for Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, said this morning that media reports saying Cox suspended Shirvell were inaccurate.

Shirvell has been under intense criticism for his anti-gay comments directed toward U-M student body President Chris Armstrong.

Yearout would not comment on the length of the leave or any other details, saying only it was Shirvell’s decision to temporarily step aside from his position as an assistant state attorney general.

The Detroit News reported this morning that Cox had suspended Shirvell, but has since pulled the story.

Cox has said on national television he wasn't planning to fire Shirvell, and his off-hours activities were free speech.

Some days, I wonder how much longer these United States will remain together.

Today is one of those days.

We're so far apart on just about everything, that breaking up seems to be the only answer. "Irreconcilable Differences" springs readily to mind.

Let them go and make their Christian Sharia State. Good Riddance.

I often wonder that too - I have always heard that empires don't stay together forever

It seems the zombies have already eaten most of the brains in DC...

btw - I would consider "Idiocracy" a political horror movie - just not in a slasher kind of way...

Good morning everyone.

I crashed out this morning and in weird weather patterns, it's still 70 degrees here on Long Island while it has dropped to 62 in the city already. Well, it looks like I can retire the shorts now for the year.

Our local weather tools are up to their usual standards of accuracy.

I'm still in filtered sun here in downtown Boston. It was supposed to be torrential downpours starting around 11 am today. UP TO SEVERAL INCHES PER HOUR! LOCALIZED FLOODING! PONDING ON THE ROADS! WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST!

asshats.

I am wearing shorts today. TOO damn humid not to. (plus, I don't give up that easy -- when I lived in NY, I wore my shorts in November. I refuse to give up!!! )

Come on Mala -- Doesn't NoVa have an Indian summer?

No trips for the TriSecs, although I am optimistically eyeing April vacation 2012 (yes, that far out) to get down to Washington for a few days. Long-term planning for a meetup?

Some jet birthdays today....the XP-59 (America's first jet...with a Lynn, MA built GE Engine) in 1942, and one of the great ones, the F-86 Sabre in 1947.

Hmm...it's also Boeing's birthday today. Not the company....the actual William Boeing. (1881).

I've been trying to figure that out b/c this email and the signup website are worded REALLY weird (it says "returning to Providence on Sunday morning at 8AM" but I don't know if that means we're arriving back home or leaving to come back at that time!)

Oh yeah and I need to give you my cell # too!

Heading out early today...going to pick up my tux tonight. Then racing home for a scout meeting. I'll be back much later this evening.

(check FB Sunday eve....Brother TriSec is heading for marriage #2, so we're all getting dolled up.)

<-- these will help.
