Super Monday!
Author: Raine    Date: 02/04/2008 13:37:01

Good Morning!

I have no voice. No, it isn't a political thing, I really have no voice today!

Tomorrow is the OTHER big day of the week, SuperMegaHuge Tuesday. And truthfully, it seems as though no on really knows what is going to happen.
CNN is reporting that Obama and Hillary are in a dead heat nationally, and that McCain is in a real lead. However, Reuters is reporting that Mitt is widening his lead in California, and down here in the deep Red South, no one really knows who is in first or second for the GOP. Depending on the Poll, it is either Mitt or McCain.

It is a real toss up, if you ask me. No matter what, it is key that tomorrow everyone who CAN vote do so. This is the most important election of our time. If you need a reminder, let's let John Tell us:

Yeah, that was LIEberman next to him, grinning like a kid with a crush. :grumble:
Does anyone remember that Joe promised to support democratic candidates? I do. HE is a liar, and I cannot wait for the day when the senate removes him from all committees, but I digress...
McCain is promising to Find Clones of Justices Alito and Roberts if elected. The very thought sends shivers down my spine.

McCAin was down her in Atlanta this weekend wooing the conservative base... Even in the face of the Evangelicals not supporting him. Among evengelicals in Georgia, Mitt is in the LEad, with Huckabee neck in neck

In the mean time... Did you hear the breaking news? Mitt Won the GOP Caucus in Maine.

The only thing I can take away from the GOP race is that for the first time in my life, Right wing talk radio and I agree, McCain is not someone who should be resident. WE may have differing reasons why... but we can agree on that. Expect today to be the day that Rush and Hannity and Neil and all of the heads go into overdrive to spread thier hatred of him.

Should be interesting, and refreshing that this time, they are attacking one of THIER own creations instead of our fine candidates.

So VOTE on TUESDAY! No matter What! VOTE! WE need to keep sending that very stron g message to the GOP that we have, and that is that the DEMOCRATS are voting in record numbers... in some places 2 -1 over the GOP. That scares them most of all. As long as we KEEP getting people to the polls nothing can stop us from having a DEM in the White House, come November.

Well, it's Monday, and I don't know if anyone told you... but THE NY GIANTS WON THE SUPERBOWL!!!

It was a wonderful thrilling Nail biter of a game that was decided at the very end. I have pretty much no voice today from all the screaming I did last night.

I will see you inside.
:peace: and
Raine

In case anyone missed it yesterday...I had an unnerving experience with the Catholic Church.

Comment by TriSec on 2/3/2008 12:48:55 PM

Afternoon, everyone.

How prescient of a blog...I went to church today.

The twelfth point of the Scout Law is "A Scout is Reverent". It's also anniversary week for us (Scouting in America founded on Feb 8, 1910...), so we have this little thing called "Scout Sunday", allegedly a non-denominational service.

Well, it was hosted by the Franciscans at Sacred Heart Church, which curiously does not sponsor a unit. I was amazed by how deep Catholic indoctrination is; we haven't been to a mass in probably more than 5 years now, but I still remember every word, every ritual, every call and response. Who's into brainwashing now?

But what really, really, really outright scared me today...

The Brother called up all the scouts for a blessing, and he asked that everyone raise their right hand. Most of the parishiners lifted a hand, bent at the elbow with fingers outsretched in a benign manner...

But at least a third of the congregation, including the Lecter, went ramrod-straight and gave us an honest-to-goodness 45º stiff-arm Nazi salute.

I hope the pictures taken convey my utter horror and uneasiness at this.

The sermon was rather interesting too, but I'm saving that comment for another day.

HERE is my Foil heads up for the week, keep your news eyes on international internet TRaffic. Last week interent connectivity was cut in Egypt and qatr... and there are rumours that ALL of IRan has no internet. I find it very unnerving. Especially after the comment about Obama and McCainand the election going to Obama unless we have a national Security crisis.

From the AFP:
Damage to undersea Internet cables in the Mediterranean that hit business across the Middle East and South Asia was not caused by ships, Egypt’s communications ministry said on Sunday, ruling out earlier reports.

The transport ministry added that footage recorded by onshore video cameras of the location of the cables showed no maritime traffic in the area when the cables were damaged.

‘The ministry’s maritime transport committee reviewed footage covering the period of 12 hours before and 12 hours after the cables were cut and no ships sailed the area,’ a statement said.

‘The area is also marked on maps as a no-go zone and it is therefore ruled out that the damage to the cables was caused by ships,’ the statement added.

Two cables were damaged earlier this week in the Mediterranean sea and another off the coast of Dubai, causing widespread disruption to Internet and international telephone services in Egypt, Gulf Arab states and South Asia.

A fourth cable linking Qatar to the United Arab Emirates was damaged on Sunday causing yet more disruptions, telecommunication provider Qtel said.

Earlier reports said that the damage had been caused by ships that had been diverted off their usual route because of bad weather.

Egypt’s communication and information technology ministry said it would report its findings to the owners of the two damaged Mediterranean cables, FLAG Telecom and SEA-ME-WE4.

Comment by Raine on 02/04/2008 15:18:09
I am NOT pleased with this.
The New York senator has criticized presidential rival Barack Obama for pushing a health plan that would not require universal coverage. Clinton has not always specified the enforcement measures she would embrace, but when pressed on ABC's "This Week," she said: "I think there are a number of mechanisms" that are possible, including "going after people's wages, automatic enrollment."

Clinton said such measures would apply only to workers who can afford health coverage but refuse to buy it, which puts undue pressure on hospitals and emergency rooms. With her proposals for subsidies, she said, "it will be affordable for everyone."

I understand it in thoery, but this is just not an attractive way to go about it.

Uhm, is right to be concerned about the youth vote. They may be campaigning, but none of it will matter if they don't vote.

And sadly, historically, we have had a problem getting them to the polls in November.

Comment by TriSec on 02/04/2008 15:27:25
All the Romney plan did was require that you purchase insurance, whether or not you could afford it.

The major players in this Commonwealth lined up like vultures to create "low cost" plans that have well over $5000 in copays and deductibles, so you're paying a significant portion of your income for crappy insurance that doesn't cover anything.

And on top of that, they changed the rules for the providers, where they could write off uninsured patients to the free-care pool and get a small reimbursement at least, but now there is no more free-care, so if you didn't buy the legally-required insurance, the hospital will just have to eat the bill.

It's a lose-lose situation all around.

I'm finding there is no longer a good candidate for me to get behind. I don't like Hill's war vote but I don't like Obama's position on giving illegal immigrantes the right to driver's licenses. I just don't believe in rewarding people for breaking the law.

Well Kucinich, Richardson and Gravel , all attended Prez on the Rez and spoke directly to Indian Country in August (some, like Gravel, revealed how little he actually knows about Indian issues, Kucinich had apparently watched "Dances with Wolves" a few too many times, Richardson - who I heard this morning endorsed Hillary

- was actually the best of the three on Indian issues - although that is no real surprise given the Native population of NM). This is the first I've seen of the final candidates addressing Native issues - so I commend Obama. Hillary was nasty to us as we tried to get her to participate in Prez on the Rez, although I've heard that her people have been calling INDN's List non-stop wanting an endorsement - I don't think that Hillary will get the INDN's List endorsement....

No worries, Raine. It's actually part of my job to keep up on what's going on in Indian Country, so it is on my radar screen more than for most people, that plus it is a passion for me "all issues Native," so that's why I love my job. I don't know what you do for exercise, but that will help. At lunch, I usually try to walk for 1/2 hr. Not jog, not speed walk, just go to the park and walk, enjoy the air and sunlight. It also helps clear away any built up tension from work.

I know I need to get some time to start exercising again. I would go out although it's either been cold or rainy which I don't like going out in. I have not been as good at juggling my hours working this shift.

Hey Liv.

Get a pedometer.

Seriously.

Do you get much chance to be up and about at work? You don't even need to worry about distance, just monitor a step count. I thought I read 10,000 per day as the 'magic number', but I'd have to go look that up.

Meaning that it's the equivalent of some amount of focused exercise.

Liv - I lost weight really, really super fast, and kept it off for years (until I meant my current partner and let myself go) by doing the following:

Cut out sugar. When I did this, Splenda was just then coming out. Now its easier with Splenda, which you can cook with.

I ate 5 meals a day. Small meals every 3 hours, with one lean meat, 1 veggie, (fruit for breakfast) and one complex carb (beans, brown rice, oatmeal, etc).

Worked out every day with weights and cardio. Weight lifting is real important. I got up very early and did this before work. I would often end up eating 2 breakfasts. One before training, one after. (Its important to eat 1/2 hour after working out).

I totally changed my BMI in about 12 weeks.

If you do this - you'll know its working if you have lots of energy and lots of gas!

Frankly, I should start doing this again!!!

BTW, the real reason the Patriots lost is because the city and the Boston Globe were messing with sports Karma.

In the days leading up to the stupid bowl, there were a number of stories published concerning the possibility of the victory parade happening on Tuesday, and that the city would have to re-route it to bypass some polling places.

Sorry, you don't tempt fate like that. The city had the parade all ready to roll, and the Globe was telling us about it 48 hours before the kickoff.

Sorry, you lose.

"There are no more superstitious fans than Red Sox Nation". Sports Karma is swift and indisputable in these parts.

Sometimes I haven't even gotten a lunch/dinner break because we've been short staffed. At least they buy us food when that happens. (although the quality has been hit or miss).

You don't have to explain to us. This is between you and your body. When you DO get a lunch break, it's up to you to motivate yourself. At the end of the day, you have to live with yourself.

I had to go take a drug screening test and, because the job's in a hospital, a TB test as well.

On the plus side, I was able to listen to Thom during most of the driving around.

TJ's pizza and a Harp beer for dinner tonight!

Oh, and I've already been hit with the inequity of Pittsburgh alcohol shopping. In order to buy my Harp beer (because my second choice, Trinity from Trader Joe's, isn't available in this state), I either had to buy a six-pack for nearly $12 or a case for about $35. I so loathe PA's ridiculous liquor laws.

I can see me stocking up when I go to my regular scifi convention over Memorial Day weekend....

The hotel we stayed at last time was nice, but kinda sucks if you want to go out at nigh to eat. Unless the pool is indoors, that would be a lower priority for this time of year. (but I did like the bunny farm that the Holiday Inn had). I don't think I am going back into a freezing pool.

Sadly, while I'd like to do Amtrak, I just checked their website and the only train between Pittsburgh and DC leaves before 6:00AM. If I'm working temps, I can't afford to miss an entire day of work. Plus, renting a car from Enterprise, I'd pay less than $100 keeping it from Thursday night (which would mean I could head out right after work) until Monday night. Yeah, the gas would bring the price up, but considering I wouldn't have to miss a day's pay, the cost would be lower ultimately.

Besides, if I rent a car, I might be able to arrange for someone to get a few extra six-packs of Trinity for me to take back as a souvenir!
