Profits Before People, the Corporatist Agenda
Author: Raine    Date: 10/11/2007 12:12:46

As many of you may have heard, The Dems Pushed thru the surveillance bill...
House Democrats pushed their government eavesdropping bill through two committees Wednesday with only minor changes, setting the stage for a confrontation with the Bush administration.

President Bush said that he will not sign the bill if it does not give retroactive immunity to U.S. telecommunications companies that helped conduct electronic surveillance without court orders.
[...]
The measure advanced by the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees left out the immunity provision Bush wants. Democrats also voted down Republican attempts to tailor the legislation more to the administration's liking.
Good for the Dems. The president and the members of congress must know that they don't work for the president. They work for us. But the real question here is this: Bush has been telling us for years that his spying program was legal.... The phone companies have said it was legal... so why do they need immunity?

Why? Because they all know it isn't. I cannot tell you how disgusted I am that the president would rather protect the interests of corporations over children in this country. AGAIN.

I ask myself, why am I still surprised? When the president and the republican party has people like Rush, Hannity and Malkin (fill in whoever else you want) and all the wonderful folks over at Faux Noise, (not to mention Mitch McConnell) that would rather attack Americans for going against this Republican agenda, it makes it all the more clear to me that we really are heading to becoming a fascist country. These watercarriers for Bush and the republican party have viciously attacked people for their religion, speaking out against the war, their race, their sex, their economic status, their politics, and yet, the President says nothing... but would rather protect and defend companies like AT&T and Blackwater.... well then, who do you think he is really serving? When a company that regular Americans use for basic services such as telephones is used by the government to spy on Americans without a court order... well, that is fascism pure and simple.

When the president says nothing about his fellow Republicans swiftboating a 12 year old boy... then you know that this man truly does not care about American families, much less children. He cares about the almighty corporate status of this country, and that is simply not American. That is something Mussolini endorsed a few decades ago...

The economy, the security, and the government of the United States of America should serve the people, not the other way around, which is exactly what is happening with this administration.

So, when he vetos this bill, he is only finally showing to all of America what many of us have known for years... He hates children, he loves money. He will sell out our fourth amendment rights to companies in order to further his agenda. In return they get protection from Bush. He disdains this government and all that it has stood for for over 200 years. Why people still support him and all that he stands for... well, I am convinced that they too disdain America, and wish to see it fail, just like those terrorists he and those who carry his water, keep trying to scare us about.

Government is for the people by the people and of the people... not the corporations. Nowhere in the constitution that the president took an oath to serve and protect does it mention AT&T. Nowhere does it say profits first, people second.

No where does it say that the president should protect multi-billion dollar companies from lawsuits. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness however is mentioned, and the president and his party are doing the opposite of it everyday, as they saber rattle for the war, and attack 12 year old boys. So sad when AT&T is more important to the President than children who don't have health insurance in America.

It's Thursday. Close enough to Friday to open the bar. Ladies drink free, and all kids have free health care... Actually every family in the blog has it's own doctor!

:peace:
Raine

I do.

I wonder how much of that comes from the polluting of the waters?

Good morning, bloggers! Raine, excellent entry today. I should point out that Thom Hartmann has mentioned that the only type of business mentioned in any of our founding documents is the press, which is given protection to operate without government interference.

By the way, Thursday's Daily Headlines are up at the Unfiltered News Network. By chance, there is a lot of military news today.

Thanks for the clarification will, and yes that is true... except that when you have people like Robert Novak and Armstrong williams... well the government is interfering there as well... :(

Boy, is this any further proof that Bush is a Sociopath who doesn't care about anyone and is a phony who shifts mood depending on whether they are ass kissers or not?

HE is a phony. he is a opportunistic man who will use people at any cost to further his agenda... I despise him.

Bush is a soulless creature. He's gonna roast in hell for the things he's done.

I want America back. I want the constitution back...I want my personal liberties back. I want everything that the constitution guarenteed me, as a citizen of the United States of america back... I shlould not want these things that were guarenteed to me as a birthright when I was born inside the borders of the United states of america. It is good to want, it is sad to want what is promised to you as a human right.

I was sad everyone couldn't make it this year too, but oh well. Maybe we can pull off a spring meet up when everything here is beautiful. The power of cherry blossoms do work wonders to fend off the evil that is currently inhabeting the White House. :)

Saw the ad, looks good. Keep meaning to get over to that site and take the tour :D

Posted at AAP: I'm posting again for any Red Sox fans here!

starling310 | 10/11/07 - 01:38 pm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I was in the can just now and I had a revelation.

The last time the Red Sox were in the playoffs, it was 2004, and there was a campaign going on. I may have gotten a little greedy and wanted the Red Sox to be World Champions AND John Kerry to be President.

It just hit me, now. The Red Sox start the ALCS this Friday and I want Al Gore to run for President. I will not make the same mistake twice.

: kneels down in cubicle : : elbows on desk :

Hello God. Are you there?

It's me.

Starling.

God, please tell Al Gore to run for President. I will even stop praying for the Red Sox to win the World Series again.

Thanks God.

Have a nice day.
