Morning in America

It's almost morning in America again. Bush and the congressional Republicans are finally seeing that they won't get their way every time, and boy are they pissed. Once again, Bush babbled through an uninspired speech in a lame effort to strong-arm House Democrats into renewing his Constitution-breaking law. Watching it, you got the sense that Bush himself didn't even believe what he was saying.
This time, however, they didn't flinch. The Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence sent a letter to Bush that said:
The House Democrats instead took up a vote to indict two key Bush aides with Contempt charges, prompting the Republicans to stage an "impromptu" walkout (which ended up at a conveniently placed dais and mics on the House steps). By doing so, they ensured that the contempt vote would pass, and the FISA law would expire. Bush helped on that account by refusing a 21-day extension that would've allowed the House and Senate to reconcile the bills, hoping that once again the Dems would cave. He bluffed. He lost.
Now the Bush Administration is asking the SCOTUS to limit judges' authority to scrutinize evidence against detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Perhaps he'll have better luck with them. In the interests of fair trials, I certainly hope not.

How disappointing it must be for them to see their dreams spiraling away into oblivion, like the water in a toilet bowl. Only Cheney remains, and - with the American people pushing and yelling and threatening - the Democrats and Congress are finally reasserting their rightful Constitutional powers.
Bush has cried "wolf!" one too many times. Congressional Democrats have stood up to the bully and found themselves unscathed.

I urge you, Mr. President, to put partisanship aside and allow Republicans in Congress to arrive at a compromise that will protect America and protect our Constitution.

I'm up already because I slept like shit last night.
So, who loved it when KO called Chimpy a Fascist.
Chimpy was just on Headline News when he was giving his statement about the shooting in Illinois. He mentioned it for 3 sentences and then went right into a rant about Congress not passing his FISA police state bill.

I believe that Howard Dean is head of the DNC. Here's some info on the DCCC from wikipedia - Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) was unanimously elected to head the DCCC for the 2008 campaign cycle. Hope everybody has a good day - me, I'm glad I survived another week ;)

BTW, My congressman, John Lewis has decided to do the right thing regarding his superdelagate! He originally endorsed Clinton, but in todays paper, he announced that he is going to use it to go to Obama, becuase as he said, he represents the people in his district, and they by and large voted for Obama!

Just contact the folks at Drinking Liberally and tell them you'd like to head one up. I'm fortunate in that there used to be a very active DL group in Pittsburgh until the previous group host couldn't do it anymore, so I have a base in place - so to speak.
You'll have to start from scratch finding a location, pulling in members and setting up the schedule. The DL folks will help you along but it's up to you to be pro-active. In particular they prefer each group have two hosts so the whole responsibility doesn't fall on just one person.
Good luck to you! From what I can see, there's only one other group in all of Oklahoma so the field is open!

You can still attend or host. But DL is always held in pubs, bars, etc. If you're interested in hosting a DL group for non-drinkers, I'd still contact Drinking Liberally to see if they'll help you set up such a group. They have the network in place and the tools to advertise.

Just contact the folks at Drinking Liberally and tell them you'd like to head one up. I'm fortunate in that there used to be a very active DL group in Pittsburgh until the previous group host couldn't do it anymore, so I have a base in place - so to speak.
You'll have to start from scratch finding a location, pulling in members and setting up the schedule. The DL folks will help you along but it's up to you to be pro-active. In particular they prefer each group have two hosts so the whole responsibility doesn't fall on just one person.

Speaking of turnout. I am going to sign up to be a poll worker - since I don't currently have a job.............. I encourage anyone else who can do this to do it. Part of the problem is - at least around here - its retiree's who are poll workers and they are short staffed!
