I urge you, Mr. President, to put partisanship aside and allow Republicans in Congress to arrive at a compromise that will protect America and protect our Constitution.
I, for one, do not intend to back down – not to the terrorists and not to anyone, including a President, who wants Americans to cower in fear.
We are a strong nation. We cannot allow ourselves to be scared into suspending the Constitution. If we do that, we might as well call the terrorists and tell them that they have won.
Dear Shelagh,
I believe the 2008 elections can truly transform American politics -- but only if we have the courage to act. We have to think big again, taking on fundamental issues like poverty and challenging injustice at every turn. And we have to seize every opportunity to move beyond politics as usual.
Today, I'm writing to alert you to 29 such opportunities -- that's the stunning number of Republicans in the House of Representatives who have decided not to run for re-election in 2008.
They've stood in our way and now they're standing down. And we've got an incredible chance to replace them with strong Democratic leaders who will help end the war, achieve universal health care, challenge poverty, and reduce global warming.

You and I know that we've got to put the White House in Democratic hands this year. But, we've also got to strengthen our hold on Congress -- breaking the ability that special interests still have to throw obstacles in the path of progress. Shelagh, your activism has helped put Democrats in a strong position. And in order to seize this historic opportunity, I'm asking you to step forward and stand together with our strong Democratic candidates so we can celebrate Democratic victories.
That's what the 2008 Open to Change Campaign is all about. The skilled, savvy and committed political organizers at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee have developed a detailed plan. With our help, they can turn open seats into big changes.

I've seen it firsthand. I know how eager the American people are to take our government back and lead our country in a new direction. As a DCCC supporter, you've long been in the forefront of this movement for change. And now you can help recruit, train, support and sustain strong Democratic candidates -- people who can win the seats that running for the hills Republicans have left open to change.
These kinds of open seat opportunities don't happen every day. Let's make the most of it.
Sincerely,
John Edwards

I wonder if, based upon this, Edwards is going to withhold any endorsement of either Obama *or* Hillary. If he's now working directly with the DCCC, that would seem to indicate he's going in a different direction.
Hmmmm....
How long until Howard Dean finishes as head of the DCCC?

I'm off today too, and with Javi in school, we're headed up to the mall and the bookstore and out to lunch today..
I looked up Keith on C & L this morning.
So is tonight the night we turn on MSNBC and are greeted with silence and a blank screen at 8:00?
Quote by velveeta jones: Interesting email Shelagh.
I'll probably get this one as well. My response will be this: Why should I give the Dems one more dime of my money if they're NOT going to make a SERIOUS effort restore our rights and put lawbreakers and liars on notice?

Mornin' everyone!
I believe that Howard Dean is head of the DNC. Here's some info on the DCCC from wikipedia - Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) was unanimously elected to head the DCCC for the 2008 campaign cycle. Hope everybody has a good day - me, I'm glad I survived another week ;)

You mean like they finally did yesterday?
I'm seriously hoping that what happened in the House is a portend of things to come. Let's face it, even some of the Repugs voted for the contempt charge.

Bobber....nice post. Thanks for having the facts correct ( as if I doubted you ) but, a ton of people yesterday thought, incorrectly, that they walked out during the FISA vote.

Just contact the folks at Drinking Liberally and tell them you'd like to head one up. I'm fortunate in that there used to be a very active DL group in Pittsburgh until the previous group host couldn't do it anymore, so I have a base in place - so to speak.
You'll have to start from scratch finding a location, pulling in members and setting up the schedule. The DL folks will help you along but it's up to you to be pro-active. In particular they prefer each group have two hosts so the whole responsibility doesn't fall on just one person.
Good luck to you! From what I can see, there's only one other group in all of Oklahoma so the field is open!
