Good Morning!

Well, it's the first time in a while that I think I've got nothing significant today.

At least in my neck of the woods, it's a glorious fall day...make sure you get outside and enjoy it if you can.

I do have a couple of brief things to add about the crash at the Reno Air Race yesterday....like most aviation stories, the press got some details wrong. While the planes do exceed 500 mph, the descriptions of "wingtip to wingtip" and "50 feet off the ground" are inaccurate. (Look up just about any "Reno Air Race" video on youspace) And our own NECN made a glaring error this morning, stating two pilots crashed in 2007 during "this race" while showing footage of the CAF Snowbirds doing their thing.

In the end....we've lost a good pilot and an irreplaceable aircraft. Those at the show are saying that he did all he could to avoid the grandstands....otherwise we'd be comparing notes to Ramstein or Sknyliv (Or the Le Mans disaster for the auto-racing folks.)

Addendum...Airshows are probably more dangerous than you think. Only the big crashes ever make the news.

I've always wanted to see one of these air races. The crash will not dissuade me.

And I have 12-hour plus shifts both today and tomorrow. Pays the bills but it makes it difficult to watch any NFL action on Sunday.

Afternoon. Sad story about that air show. I've only been to one air show and had a great time (other than a face FULL of sunburn from looking up all day). Now, I don't think I could enjoy a show - I'd worry too much. There has been a lot of disasters of late it seems.
