if anyone has been paying attention to Chrysler's recent adds, they have all been in same vein about Detroit coming back. This one just happens to have an actor who (wrongly, I think) is identified as being conservative.

I don;t remember that controversy. You could be right -- so if that is the case -- they are just pissed that Chrysler didn;t fail.
