McCain's Spiritual Guide: Destroy Islam
Washington Dispatch: Televangelist Rod Parsley, a key McCain ally in Ohio, has called for eradicating the "false religion." Will the GOP presidential candidate renounce him?
By David Corn
March 12, 2008
Senator John McCain hailed as a spiritual adviser an Ohio megachurch pastor who has called upon Christians to wage a "war" against the "false religion" of Islam with the aim of destroying it.
On February 26, McCain appeared at a campaign rally in Cincinnati with the Reverend Rod Parsley of the World Harvest Church of Columbus, a supersize Pentecostal institution that features a 5,200-seat sanctuary, a television studio (where Parsley tapes a weekly show), and a 122,000-square-foot Ministry Activity Center. That day, a week before the Ohio primary, Parsley praised the Republican presidential front-runner as a "strong, true, consistent conservative." The endorsement was important for McCain, who at the time was trying to put an end to the lingering challenge from former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, a favorite among Christian evangelicals. A politically influential figure in Ohio, Parsley could also play a key role in McCain's effort to win this bellwether state in the general election. McCain, with Parsley by his side at the Cincinnati rally, called the evangelical minister a "spiritual guide."
The leader of a 12,000-member congregation, Parsley has written several books outlining his fundamentalist religious outlook, including the 2005 Silent No More. In this work, Parsley decries the "spiritual desperation" of the United States, and he blasts away at the usual suspects: activist judges, civil libertarians who advocate the separation of church and state, the homosexual "culture" ("homosexuals are anything but happy and carefree"), the "abortion industry," and the crass and profane entertainment industry. And Parsley targets another profound threat to the United States: the religion of Islam.

Mornin' Everybody :coffee:,
I gotta give a plug for my vehicle, a spiffy little Scion XA (five speed :). Great mileage (35 around town, 38 + on the highway). Plus it was the first new car I ever bought in my life (only 2 miles on the odometer when I drove it off the lot). I've got two big dogs (80 pounds and 75 pounds respectively) who ride along fine in the backseat - mega dog hair zoneGood sound system, nice pick up, the ride is a little rough, but hey so am I
And I paid less than $13,000.00 for it in August 2004. I am NOT a Scion salesperson, I promise

That goes for ANY musical "specialty". Ask anyone under 30 (and older "mainstream only" musical types) if they've ever heard of Oingo Boingo or XTC or Echo and the Bunnymen. You'll get blank stares too.
My original analogy stands: People with depth of understanding and nuance in our political process should not discuss politics with people that get all of their political information from FAUX News playing on the TV in the breakroom while they nuke their Stouffers Lean Cuisine for lunch...

Yeah, that would be a good reason.
It's not just women - there are men who do this as well.
As to the "will" issue - it comes down to the lack of opportunities. I honestly believe that very, very few people, if given the true choice, would choose to enter such a profession.
The negative ramifications are clear.

Hey Liv - that sucks about the car. I just had my brakes done (after 75k miles) and I needed new rotors on the front as well as the pads. I waited way too long, but I didn't have the cash to get even just the pads done until recently (and I no longer have any credit cards).
I always take it to a particular Big 10 Tires shop that I know is honest. I used to go to Brake-O, but after having them tell me I needed over $1000 in brake work on a van (including new calipers) for them to guarantee any of it, I took it to my tire place and they said "naw, you just need new pads". It cost me 1/10th as much.
Find a good honest mechanic/garage and stick with them!

I have actually been using my dealer for car maintenance ever since I bought it. When I have had to have major work done, it ends up being a couple of hundred bucks otherwise it's just been the basic oil change/3000 mile maintenance. I just got my estimate today and it should be around $430 to fix my car with the front breaks needing replacement.

And then you get the assertion that all sex is related to money, which equates all women with prostitutes (because, generally, that's how the discussion goes)
Quote by velveeta jones:Many women are not given "choice". They are addicted to drugs and will do anything for the drug. Controlled by the pimps and the drugs, choice is not an option. A sense of hopelessness makes it even worse, they think "why should I even try to change, I'm not worth it anyway". So, yes I agree, they have no true choice.Quote by Shane-O:Quote by starling310:Quote by velveeta jones:Quote by starling310:

And you know what? When I woke up, I felt a lot better. No doubt I have pissed of a few people around the blogoshphere, maybe even some people I consider friends, but that is the joy of having good friends... you can debate and communicate and disagree without the hate that we have been so subject to from the ilkes of the Right wing hate machine and the flaven.
I have a huge problem with Wolfson and Axelrod - they seem to be doing the same thing Rove did (and now does on Fox "News"). The use of sex and/or race as a political wedge issue is as sick as the 2004 election where Rove used anti-same-sex marriage initiatives to rally his minions to vote. I think we're better than that, as Dems. If only the operatives would knock that crap off... then again, that's not their job, is it?

U.S. authorities in Baghdad have received five severed fingers belonging to four Americans and an Austrian who were taken hostage more than a year ago in Iraq, officials here said today. The FBI is investigating the grisly development, and the families of the five kidnapped contractors have been notified, American officials said on condition of anonymity because only Washington officials are permitted to publicly discuss the matter. Authorities have confirmed that the fingers belonged to hostages Jonathan Cote, of Gainesville, Fla., Joshua Munz, of Redding, Calif., Paul Reuben, of Buffalo, Minn., Bert Nussbaumer of Vienna, Austria, and Ronald J. Withrow, of Lubbock, Texas. The first four men were security contractors with Kuwait-based Crescent Security and were captured in a brazen ambush of their 43-truck supply convoy in the southern Iraqi town of Safwa, near the Kuwaiti border, on Nov. 16, 2006. There was no word today on a fifth contractor who was seized with them, John Young, of Kansas City. Contrary to Austrian news reports, none of the fingers belonged to him, authorities said. The Crescent contractors appeared in two hostage videos released in December 2006 and January 2007 in which they pleaded for the United States to withdraw troops from Iraq and to free all Iraqi prisoners. In the videos, they appeared in good condition and stated that they were being treated well. [..]
