Good Morning.

Today is our 4,111th day in Afghanistan.

We'll start this morning as we always do; with the latest casualty figures from our ongoing war, courtesy of Antiwar.com:

US Military Deaths - Afghanistan: 2,174
Other Military Deaths - Afghanistan: 1,079

We find this morning's cost of war passing through:

$1, 411, 113, 675, 000 .00

I'm going to have to leave it with just the stats. I have things bookmarked, but I can't get at them right now...and I completely forgot it was Tuesday today. (I've been so connected to my treatment cycle these last 5 months. I normally went on Wednesdays, but because of the holidays, my last one had to be re-scheduled to today. So my chemo-brain says it's Wednesday.)

In any case, you know where you can find your veteran's news by now.

Ugh it's ridiculous too.. one day you think you're finally over it and the next you're coughing up blood.

IKR, thankfully no blood (you may want to have that checked out ) just a cough that sneaks up on you when your trying to have a conversation or that lasts like 5 minutes. I've never had a cold last this long - 6 days tops usually. I mean WTF!

Mala love, sounds like you might have bronchitis or something else. Go see your doctor, young lady!

Australia is having an astounding heat wave. So bad that they put new colours on the heat chart.

I have a friend who is going to give birth in about 3 weeks... she is miserable.

Actually I kinda have a theory as to why my cough is lasting so long..

The whole time I've been sick, I've been taking some 'special medicine' because.. it makes the cough go away, along with making me feel generally better. Downside - when it wears off, the cough is usually WORSE from the smoke. I gave it a day's break then used the last little bit of my "prescription" just a moment ago.

Next time I get some, I'm definitely converting it to oil/butter so i can make baked goods instead!

That's always a possibility too.. You'd be surprised how a case of bronchitis can develop weeks later.

See now, when we have a cold day in the winter there's no global warming. But when a continent catches fire, it's just a normal temperature variation.

In addition to Elvis and Bowie, it's also a nexus of disasters today.

Anyone want to pick one of about 6 that happened today and provide a brief overview?

I love how a provider had a January 1 deadline, and sat on a test file for 3 weeks and now that he's getting "pressure" from his higher ups, he expects me to drop everything and work on his stuff first.

Sorry, no.

So a high School football coach beats up his girlfriend and her son. he gets arrested. then he violates the order of protection shortly after he posts bail. He gets placed on leave --

What do you think happens next? Blame the victim, blame the unions. and justify his actions becuase he is, after all, a FOOTBALL coach.

This particular incident is quite personal for me.

Some wonderful comments:
Instead of his football record, why not list all this dedicated coach has done for this community and the kids such as organizing a fund raiser for a severely injured kid, volunteering at a summer football camp, running concession stands to pay for kids travel expenses for extra football experiences (using his own money to buy supplies), calling parents (even at night) when he hears that a student is sick or injured, just to name a few. I wasn't there when this happened and none of you reading this was and I know there is more to this story than the details that are here.

He was arrested for battery on a woman and her child.

Did you know if you curse in front a minor you can be charged with endangering the welfare? That law is wide-open to some far fetched interpretation.
Nice justification, because he is a football coach....
Oh and about the second arrest:
It was a phone call... not like he drove to her residence and yelled obsenities at all hours of the night. Noone knows what happened on that call... Could have been accidental, or it could have been worse. Only two people know the truth.

And small town bullshit:
Theres always three sides to every story....his, hers, and the truth. As sure as the sun will rise in the East tomorrow morning, count on the fact that there were circumstances way beyond what the police report states. I know him,....AND I know her. Im SURE her picture and violations should be listed here too. He may have made some mistakes, but Im positive shes not simply an innocent victim here. Good luck to all involved. Coach,.....do yourself a favor and move on and watch how happy your life will be with this behind you.

You see, she must have deserved it...

Yes.

The Unions however... someone said he should get unpaid leave and then came these spectacularly stupid comments:
I wouldn't count on that if I were you, The only Union more powerful than this one was the Soviet Union.

Americans who are not in unions have little or no clue about the collective bargaining process, do they? I'm not unionized, but I understand how the process works. Assholes.

He was placed on leave pending the school investigating. The Superintendent is said to be a close friend of his. (I have a few sources in the area that confirm that) He also coaches the wrestling team along with PE.

The bigger problem here is that he is a beloved football coach. If you look at the comments I posted, you can see that this may be a problem for students in the school district. Teacher/coach lives in the district where this happened. A child was involved.

put 2 & 2 together. There may be no rape here, but Stuebenville comes to mind.
