So for now, let's send out the vibes for his recovery.. and intestinal fortitude.

Morning, comrades.

I oppose anyone attempting to usurp my title of "Blog Basket Case".

Seriously though, I've been down myself all weekend. I only saw on the book of face that Mondo was in-hospital. What the hell is going on??

He got some kind of intestinal viral thing I believe. I'm wondering if it is Noro Virus.

the flucking NRA....
When 20 children and 6 adults were gunned down in Sandy Hook Elementary School exactly one month ago today, the National Rifle Association rushed to blame video games, not guns, for inspiring such mass murders. But the gun lobby seemingly lost sight of its target in the past weeks, and over the weekend released a shooting app, called “NRA: Practice Range.”

You know, when Joe Biden was having his conference, and it became obvious that the NRA wasn't going to help, he should have told them 'We'll do it without you, then. You can leave now."

And of course called a press conference right after.

I'm kinda disappointed that POTUS didn't respond to the petitions with "Sure, go ahead". I'd love to see how all those Red states that rely on government handouts, and have most of our military bases, would fare without that support.

here is another ponderence I have.

In order to get a government job, or a security clearance to contract for the government, the FBI does a background check.

What's wrong with a check like the ones they give programmers?

Good morning everybody. I guess the good thing for Mondo (or as you put it in the stubby, Modo) is that his hospital at least he has decent wi-fi so he can blog. Although I do seem to be under the impression that hospitals like hotels have crappy TV selections where you only get the large broadcasters and a handful of cable networks although I think the hotels do it to bump up the pay-per-view purchases.

Mt. Auburn hospital has a giant, sucking chest wound of channel selections.

At least when I was there, the Sox were on the coast and they had NESN, so I could watch the late-night games during my restlessness.

Daytime was hellicious. They pipe in a couple of radio stations, but I spent a lot of time reading.

(Which annoyed me during chemo, too. I brought in my ipod with a bunch of music on multiple ocassions.)

Moving into WWII geek mode for just a minute.

I learned something new over this past weekend...who knew such a thing existed?

Sir Winston and his monstrous oratory has finally disappointed me. In volume 3 of his "The Second World War", I was very much looking forward to the chapter about the action with the Bismarck. It was very disappointing reading, indeed. There are far more lively and accurate accounts out there now.

And finally, I spent a lot of time perusing the internets about certain massacres and atrocities committed during the war. I find that I seem to have an unhealthy fascination with Irma Grese at the moment. I am impressed by the SAS man that interviewed her during Nuremburg and called her "The worst human being I have ever met."

Anyway...

*sigh*

I'm so tired of arguing about guns. Sure, I've fired a rifle, but only at Scout Camp in a controlled situation. Aside from on a policeman's hip, I've never even seen a handgun, never mind handled one.

What I fail to understand is the gun culture. I have knives, but I don't think about protecting my house or killing people with them. It's a freakin' tool, not a weapon. Besides, I live in the city. What need do I have for a rifle?

Yes, I know it's different in Montana or Alaska, but what's in the air out that way that makes people so stupid about this?

Rrrrgh!

Would you believe that the gun nut I'm arguing with is pointing out that the right to regulate guns was not given to the government?

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

I believe by the mere fact of being in the Second Amendment (To the constitution, see?) actually does delegate that power to the government, so of course they can implement regulations.

The stupid is making my head hurt.

1792: our First president created the first militia. Federal Government regulated it.

Do you know when the Bill of rights was ratified? September 25, 1789

You know when the constitution was adopted? September 17, 1787

Math is hard, but it isn't THAT hard. Don't cite the founding fathers as a way to say your right to own a gun is a constitutional right to fight what you perceive as possible tyranny in this nation.

It simply isn't your constitutional right. It is a state right to maintain a militia.

Private ownership of a gun is a privilege -- not a right.

Comment by livingonli on 01/14/2013 21:39:55
There is a meme being posted on the book of faces which seems to be noting that in 1967, the NRA actually supported a law by Ronald Reagan which did impose restrictions on gun ownership in California at the time. It could be noted that this was at a time that the main movement that wanted to arm to defend themselves was the militant wing of the Black Panther Party. Gee, could the NRA have had different thoughts when groups like the Panthers or the American Indian Movement felt the need to take up arms to protect themselves from government abuse?

Hi, bloggers!!! I am glad to see that Mondo is doing better.

I was out substitute teaching today. Only had to send two kids to the office.

Still no word from my recent interviews. I hope that I will have good news for you soon.
