Mornin' all..

I'm really damn nervous about this last batch of SCOTUS decisions coming in a few moments.

Well, in honour of the goings-on in Texas last night, I feel like I should have an abortion now. Why not, I had a C-section a year ago....

*ducks bricks*

And welcome SENATOR Markey!

(He's my congressman - while nobody can evere replace the Sainted Ted, I think you'll like what you see when he gets there.)

DOMA is unconstitutional as a deprivation of the equal liberty of persons that is protected by the Fifth Amendment.

"DOMA singles out a class of persons deemed by a State entitled ot recognition and protection to enhance their own liberty."

The opinion and its holding are confined to those lawful marriages.

Comment by Raine on 06/26/2013 14:05:10

Supreme Court rules "Defense of Marriage Act" unconstitutional, 5-4. #SCOTUS #DOMA

They're reading some of the language in the DOMA decision that refers to the Prop8 case and it sounds like that one's going the other way.

it looks like they might punt it back to the state.

that said, doesn't DOMA trump prop 8?

DOMA being called unsconstitutional means that Niki and Linda's wedding will be recognized by federal law becuase it is retroactive. I'm blowing a kiss to niki wherever she is right now.

Sotomayor dissented because she wanted the case to be overturned on merits.

so in essence, they did kick it back to the state -- but at this point, I don;t see hollingsworth v Perry being revisited with DOMA being declared DOA!

DOMA .... whatever.

Don't let this be a distraction. We all figured that this would get voted down. The release of this info is meant to pit blacks against gays. They destroy parts of the VRA and give gays rights to marry?

A friend of mine at the Head On Radio Network chat, TexasBetsy, has been at the capitol in Austin. She is outraged at the arrogance of the GOP legislators.

This is a big week for Supreme Court rulings. We need to secure voting rights for all even as we celebrate a victory for our LGBT brothers and sisters.

Yay, Senator Markey. And poor Gomez whines he had to fight the Democrat Machine by himself. Maybe Gomez is such a loser the party of losers won't back him. Oh wait, he's a NAVY SEAL!!!

It's very difficult to root for the Bruins as an entity, as the main reason their playing hockey in the summer is due to the greed and arrogance of the Bruins owner. The players, however, are a different story. I don't think you'd find a baseball player playing with a broken rib and a separated shoulder, even in World Series.

Raine, please offer my condolences. If you wish, I can say the Mourner's Kaddish for Nikki at Temple on Friday. (We are asked if there are any names we wish to add before we start the prayer.)

I have to do some things this afternoon, so I cannot write a blog today. However, let me share what I wrote on Facebook:

Today marked several key rulings by the Supreme Court. The rights of marriage and the attendant rights and responsibilities were granted to more Americans. However, the issue of marriage equality is not settled. Similarly, the court ruling on the Voting Rights Act does not settle the issue of voter discrimination -- which still exists in this country. (See Florida in the past election, when many voters -- including a 102-year-old woman -- were forced to wait for hours to vote.) Still, I believe that Dr. King was correct: the arch of history bends towards justice -- and freedom.

All this manufactured scandal and SCROTUS crap is harshing my buzz. When I get a little depressed, I turn in a bit. That and the short lull I had at work evaporated and I'm busybusybusy.

Mrs. Rabbit and I celebrated our 30th anniversary yesterday, just a little dinner out, which of course didn't set well with me. While the new medication is really helping keep my blood sugar in control, it tends to upset the stomach.

It seems like the Celtics have officially "blown it up". Whether it sinks to "John Y. Brown / pre Bird" levels of suckitude remains to be seen.

Tim Tebow now moves up on the tight end depth chart, to #2 I think. A new chapter for the book Pros and Cons.

I don't think the Bruins "went down". No shame losing to a team that started 24 games without a loss. Rask's performance in net makes it easy to forget that Right Wing loon who started a couple of years ago.

I still refuse to care about the Red Sox. Not being pick-pocketed raped by Comcast makes that easy.

ETA - I really should watch my language, sorry if I offended anyone. I'll try to do better.

Mrs. Rabbit gets upset if my fumble-fingered handling of the TiVo remote causes a change of channel and her missing part of that block since she's always running time-shifted. I just tell her to find the same episode on Netflix. Bonus - no commercials.

Yes, and they have the best record in the AL and are #2 in the power rankings (behind St. Louis) and yet they still suck. They're one groin pull away from total collapse, it doesn't matter which player at this point.

(Seriously - look at the starting 9, and their starting rotation. After these guys, there is nobody on the bench or in the bullpen that could step up if anything goes wrong.)

WATCH: Congresswoman who lost both legs in Iraq questions veteran's ankle injury, motives http://wapo.st/137BAIH
HEre is the actual WaPo article:
Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) on Wednesday excoriated a witness during a House hearing over his claim to a lucrative military disability status stemming from a decades-old ankle injury he sustained at a military preparatory school.
Duckworth grew visibly upset with Braulio Castillo, the president and CEO of Strong Castle, Inc. A congressional investigation found that Castillo claimed service-disabled veteran status in 2012 over an ankle injury he suffered in 1984 at the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School.

“I’m sorry that twisting your ankle in high school has now come back to hurt you in such a painful way, if also opportune for you to gain this status for your business as you were trying to compete for contracts,” said Duckworth, an Iraq war Veteran who lost both her legs in 2004 after the helicopter she was co-piloting was shot down.

“You’re foot hurt — your left foot?” she asked the witness at one point.

EDIT: yeah apparently some no-name news outlet in Vegas trying to siphon hits off The Guardian UK ran a totally unconfirmed story, and it got picked up & echoed by a govt official in Australia, then a Twitter-storm went off.
