Has Hillary raised that damn glass ceiling?
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 06/01/2008 12:20:58

I dreamed that one day, during my lifetime, and God willing, during my Mothers lifetime, there would be a President of the United States that we would address as "Madam President". I dreamed that Madam President would change the way politics would be done in Washington; the end of dirty tricks, lying, and plotting behind closed doors - schemes that would hurt Americans.

And Hillary Clinton is killing my dream.

Hillary believed she was entitled to the Presidency. Yes, I said it. Entitled. Father Michael Pfleger, guest Pastor at "Obama's Church" as its come to be called, was right on. His sermon was on White Entitlement, which is why he brought Hillary Clinton into the mix.

And why not? From the start Clinton has assumed she will be the nominee.
She is entitled because she has the name, the money, the popularity, and she thought, the super-delegates....... not that she'd even need them.

Her assumption that she would just sweep in and be the Democratic Presidential Nominee is just plain galling to those of us that had this dream. Many of us envisioned that our first serious female candidate that would stop "playing the political game" and start talking and listening to the American people honestly. That she would be such a refreshing change Independents, Libertarians and Republicans would jump on the bandwagon. All of us, Black and White; Young and Old, Gay and Straight, holding hands and singing songs and then diving into a large bed and ripping off our .............. oops, sorry that’s a different dream.

But then this Black guy stole our thunder! Seems he had a dream as well. And more than that, a plan. A damn good one. He’d play nice all the while playing by the rules. Instead of screaming and complaining; he’d be thoughtful, considerate and focus on looking for solutions. He studied the Party rules and used them to his advantage - concentrating on the Democratic districts that would secure him more delegates, even if he lost the state to Clinton.

He has been the “Tortoise” to Clintons “Hare”.

And Barack Obama could have played so ugly; he could have used the old political game. Bringing up Monica, Whitewater, the Rose Law firm, Vince Foster, and any number of things that would have kept Hillary on the defensive. He even could have played up her many verbal mishaps: sniper fire in Bosnia or the RFK assassination. But he didn’t. He’s consistently played “nice”. Meanwhile, I cringe, every time Hillary or one of her screaming supporters gets behind the microphone. Even MoveOn, an organization that was started in response to all the nit-picking of Bill Clinton, has turned against Hillary. Ironic?

This is NOT the way it was supposed to play out for me. I wanted a woman to be the one that changed the rules. But its not happening, and I might just throw a tantrum! Hillary! You are turning into the proverbial spoiled nagging housewife, hanging onto to her husband and demanding that everything goes YOUR way! I find it sickening and insulting to feminism! You are setting women BACK, not forward. We want to walk on our own two feet, not feel that we are ENTITLED to anything because of our (fill in the blank) just like any man would want! YOU (or someone similar to you, perhaps with a different last name) were supposed to be our guiding light toward change and peace and acceptance and freedom and all those other hippie ideals that your generation promised!!

But, but, but............. You’re WHINING!! Now you’ve GOT ME WHINING! THIS AIN’T HOW ITS SUPPOSED TO PLAY OUT. DAMMIT!!

Ahem, excuse me.

So, now that Hillary has screamed loud enough and gotten what she wants, well, half of what she wants, she's determined to continue. Harold Ickes, a committee member and Clinton adviser, said the Senator was reserving the right to contest the decision into the summer. So, the whining and screaming will continue.

The whining will continue despite the fact that she said this back in October:

I personally did not think it made any difference whether or not my name was on the ballot. It's clear: This election they're having is not going to count for anything.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama has resigned from his “controversial” church as the media talking-points heads now calls it. I think he did the right thing, there is no sense in continuing to have to defend this church that can’t seem to shut up during the election. He says he’s looking for a new church. Might I suggest one that is in........... Washington DC?

I believe that I have the entire hour (both of them), but do not know how to edit audio, so I could just send you both of the first hours for those dates. Would that be helpful? I just tried to send hour one (5/14), but I think that the file is too big to send - I'll try "You send it" and see if I can get it to you that way.

BTB, Mornin' Everybody,

Excellent post Velveeta! I think that those Clinton supporters might as well be yelling "McCain" rather than "Denver." I blogged on essentially the same thing yesterday and I have the numbers in a handy little chart - please see "My Head Hurts." Thanks for another great post VJ. Have a relaxing Sunday - we're having thunderstorms here in Tulsa

Cheers,

mfaye

That bastahd! HE turned DOWN chanced to get more delegates! :sarcasm:

Democratic party rules-committee members said Barack Obama turned down two chances to increase his share of the disputed Florida and Michigan delegates. He instead instructed his supporters on the committee to agree to seating plans for the two states that allowed Hillary Clinton to narrow his lead by perhaps 19 votes, they said.

The committee agreed Saturday to give Clinton 69 of Michigan’s 128 pledged delegates to 59 for Obama, and then to give each delegate a half vote. That means Clinton receives 34.5 Michigan votes to Obama’s 28.5 — a six vote advantage.

Committee members said there were enough votes to pass a motion splitting the delegation in half — giving each candidate 64 delegates and 32 votes. But they said the Obama campaign, which has long argued for the even split, urged his supporters to drop that plan and vote instead for one that slightly benefited Clinton.

Comment by BobR on 06/01/2008 16:59:43
Great blog post Velveeta. I have heard plenty of people say they would like to see a female president in their lifetime, just not this female. I certainly agree with that assessment - I am tired of the dirty politics, so I am backing the candidate that doesn't engage in that. Hillary's fighting 'till the death works in Congress, but doesn't work so well in the office of the presidency. The presidency requires someone that will command respect, inspire others to do their best, and get people to work together towards a common goal.

From what I understand about the decision of the committee yesterday, she got everything she wanted, except that there's a stink about Obama getting 4 delegates that the Hillary campaign thinks that they should have gotten.

4 delegates.

For this they're spewing more rhetoric to divide the party? If Obama beats her by just 4 delegates, then they might have a leg to stand on. Somehow, though, I think he will win by a much larger margin, in which case this will mean nothing. All this negative energy for what?

As to the idiots in the YouTubes: If they want to vote for McCain rather than Obama - let them. Kick them out of the Democratic party too... they don't deserve us. Obama can win without them. I suspect most rational Clinton supporters will vote for Obama if (when) he clinches the nomination.

As to Obama and his church: I don't like that he felt he had to quit his church. I think that is a very sad reflection on the American public (or perhaps the media). I read a comment from Obama where he said that he did it as much to protect the church as he did to distance himself from the <1% of controversial comments coming from the pulpit. I suspect that aspect of it will get ignored by everyone.

Comment by livingonli on 06/01/2008 17:06:43
The whole thing with these crazy pastors and the religious test is a very good argument as to why we need separation of church and state.

Apparently he will still be working on the Air America web site even though he is currently showless. Supposedly, he is in consideration for the 3-6 slot. Although only Maron got another week of airtime.

A few people on the Sammy blog were suggesting that he jump ship from AAR to NovaM. As it is I am now down to just listening to Hartmann, some Rachel and occasionally Ring of Fire and have really moved away from AAR.

Evening, folks!

One of those magical "only in Boston" days...

We were at the Franklin Park Zoo this afternoon. It's in the delightful Olmsted-designed Franklin Park, a lush green oasis at the end of the Emerald Necklace. A confluence of observations...

As it happens in a crowd situation, we ran into the same group of people multiple times. There was a French couple and their new baby (probably Quebecois, though) that we followed through the bird house. Interesting people to chatter with.

At the Great Ape house, we went through with several Hispanic folks...Maria got along just fine, and even Javi said a few words of Spanish. As our zoo is set up, we're quite close to the apes, and I sat for a long moment face-to-face with one of the females. (through a glass panel). There's something a little unsettling looking into those eyes...they seemed tired, but there was also a great presence behind them...

Climbing the hill to the camels, we fell in with an African-American family...one of the young 'uns was crying and mama came up behind and scared her. All of us got a bit of a chuckle out of that, and I was going "Bad Mama, BAD!" as we walked along. Reaching the camels, one of them was lying in such a way to display his obvious maleness, and the ladies in our group were evidently taking notes...

The lions were in a great spot today, right close to the observation blind, and the tigers too were pacing right up at the front of their enclosure.

And on top of that, we couldn't ask for better weather...near perfect, no humidity, about 80º and a gentle breeze wafting off the ocean.

Coming home, we grilled up some burgers...had a fine red wine (imported) and fresh watermelon...and I'm capping off with some Christian Brothers and Kind of Blue.
