Mornin' all..

Was up late last night watching a friend of mine almost win a tournament in Orlando. Sometimes the cards just give you a raw deal at the wrong time.

It does indeed. When we first heard about this, Mrs. Mondo and I were dubious, then we tried it. We were converted.

BREAKING HUGE NEWS!

Today’s orders: Same-sex marriage petitions denied
This morning the Court issued additional orders from its September 29 Conference. Most notably, the Court denied review of all seven of the petitions arising from challenges to state bans on same-sex marriage. This means that the lower-court decisions striking down bans in Indiana, Wisconsin, Utah, Oklahoma, and Virginia should go into effect shortly, clearing the way for same-sex marriages in those states and any other state with similar bans in those circuits.

More than half the states now have same sex marriage!!!!

Comment by Raine on 10/06/2014 14:21:19
More here from HRC
In a surprise move, the nine justices of the Supreme Court have declined to hear any of the cases pending before them challenging state bans on marriage for same-sex couples. This allows the circuit court decisions striking down the bans to stand, meaning same-sex couples in Utah, Oklahoma, Virginia, Wisconsin and Indiana will soon be able to legally marry. In addition, it leaves in place the circuit court rulings from the Fourth, Seventh and Tenth Circuits, meaning couples in West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming will soon be able to marry as well.

Good morning, bloggers!!

I hope that everyone is well.

I ran across an interesting and depressing story this morning on how Hungary's prime minister is killing its democracy.

Mala, Raine, BobR, you might need to run to your local bakeries before they get too busy with wedding cake orders.

TriSec, thanks to Massachusetts for leading the way on this. Here in Indiana (why didn't my brother stay on the Illinois side of the border), Governor Mike Pence is probably reaching for the antacid.

Good day, folks. After hoping to get out early, and ended up working late due to a ton of things that ended up needing to be done, I now have a week and a half vacation.

Baseball playoffs is all national TV which we don't do other than the O's and Nats pre- and post-game coverage on MASN. We don't even have that much college football because the proliferation of conference networks and Fox Sports 1 means regional networks only get the bottom barrel college football matchups. I wanted to go to New York ComicCon but my money is tight right now.

Say Liv, can you shed any light on the now common practice of format flipping in radio? There's a weak station here in Lynn, MA (101.7, the late, great WFNX) that has changed format 3x in as many years. (Latin, dance, now country).

I'm actually annoyed by a billboard out here "101.7 THE BULL- Boston's NEW hit country" - it's here in Worcester where you'd be hard pressed to pick up the signal on a good day. But it's the brand name- i've seen that Bull moniker on some random photos from around the country on the book of face.

Seems to me that this couldn't be more 'formula'. I give it no more than 6 months before it changes again.

Nothing like the great results that Clear Channel got after purchasing the station from the Boston Phoenix. Radio has gotten so bad thanks to industry consolidation from companies like Clear Channel, Cumulus, and CBS owning most of the stations in a radio market and the even greater emphasis on squeezing the bottom line for a quick profit. Now with most stations if they have jocks they are largely voicetracked outside of drive time, and if there is no one live on air, they just have everything automated through the computer with no one minding the store if something should go wrong. And that is why I pretty much listen to Sirius-XM in the car and not terrestrial radio.

So it's been a week and a half since I last talked to (argued with) my friend.. I haven't talked to him since. In fact, I haven't even gone back to the place I usually converse with him (and about 5 others). He sent me a message about a week ago.

I've been meaning to go back for several days now, but when I'm at work I've been really focusing on work (for a change!), and when I'm at home gaming takes most of my attention and I end up not even thinking about it.

There's been an explosion at a military facility near Tehran, Iran.

While the site was believed to be involved in nuclear weapons development, the explosion seems to be munition or chemical based.

Saturday we had "Art on the Avenue" here in our community. There were 3 political booths set up nearly right next to each other: The Dems, The Reps, and the Tea Party.

Yes - there was a Tea Party booth set up right next to the Republican booth.

Neither of those two were getting much love. Everyone who was wearing political stickers were Dems.
