Fauxtrage
Author: Raine    Date: 11/13/2014 14:31:01

In the latest chapter of from the Fauxtrage crowd is particularly pathetic. NewsCorps perhaps captures the idiocy best.
What ruffled Fox’s chickenhawk feathers was their addled interpretation of the song as anti-military. And what made the song anti-military was that it was allegedly anti-war. Fox pounded that view into their audience all day with segments on Fox & Friends, where co-host Anna Kooiman said it was “a slap in the face” to veterans; on Outnumbered, where it was characterized as an “outrage;” and on The Five, where co-host Eric Bolling called the choice of material “a mistake.”

First of all, the song is not anti-war. It is anti-elitist privileged classes that exempt themselves from the burdens of society. It explicitly criticizes the rich and powerful who vote themselves tax cuts and shield their kids from the dirty business of defending the freedom that they exploit. The song’s title should make it obvious enough that the hacks on Fox wouldn’t need to struggle to figure it out.
Then there is this, via TPM.
The performance was made even worse, Epstein contended, because "Fortunate Son" is "an anti-draft song, and this concert was largely organized to honor those who volunteered to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq."

The Boss has been in the Fox News crosshairs all day, too. On Fox Business Network, Stuart Varney questioned why Springsteen, "an outspoken leftist," would play politics with the troops.

"So much for HBO's 'Concert for Valor,'" Clayton Morris said at the outset of this morning's "Fox & Friends."

On Fox's "Outnumbered," co-host Andrea Tantaros professed to be a fan of both Springsteen and Grohl, but wondered why they didn't just go with a different song.

"It's amazing to me that nobody — think of all the people that are involved in a concert like this — nobody had the brains to stop and say, 'You guys might want to pick a different song,'" Tantaros said.

Let me say this again. Conservatives don't own the voice of the nation's troops . This is what is making me really angry.

The troops are not conservative, They are not liberal. They are a collective of people who care about this nation. The troops are not a monolith. The are not a political demographic.

People enter into military service for many reasons. Since 1973 it has been an all volunteer army.
DoSomething.org spoke with Rajiv Srinivasinan, admissions officer at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and CEO of MyVetwork—a non-profit dedicated to easing the transition from military to civilian life for returning veterans. Rajiv let us know the top five reasons citizens join the service.

1. Education. When you enlist in the army, you have the opportunity to receive a fully-funded education. Considering the rising amount of student debt in America, the option to attain a college degree without taking out loans is desirable to prospective soldiers.

2.Stability. Joining the military means a steady paycheck and a stable career trajectory. Many people can't risk the uncertainty of job hunting without cash flow to pay bills and support a family.

3. Respect. People want to be respected members of their communities. For many, the military is a path toward community-wide respect.

4. Community. Rajiv expressed that the military offers a strong sense of family and community. Those who have come from a fragmented background seek a foundation of love and support that military communities provide.

4. Adventure. People join because they're looking for a challenge and an adventure.
There are many many people who have come back from war disillusioned and disheartened. They deserve a voice as well, but according to some, they should be silenced for not waving the red white and blue in homage to the military wounded and dead.

They should not care that so many of our brethren are unemployed and homeless, suffer from depression and PTSD and other war-related injuries.

Nope, not according to FOX "News". Oh -- and clearly a rapper cursing around a bunch of sailors was just the thing that ruined the concert. Listen to this commentary.

We worry more about what a few singers say than how we actually treat our Veterans in this nation. Lost in all of this fauxtrage was this fact:
Got Your 6 is proud to partner with The Concert for Valor to celebrate our veterans this Veterans Day. To keep the conversation going, check out “What’s Next”, a video the represents the growing veteran empowerment movement. Hear more stories from returning veterans and find additional resources as you browse our site.

If people are so pissed off about an anti-war song, then give musicians a reason to never have to write an anti-war song.

And dammit it all to hell - stop the perpetual war machine that makes this song still relevant to this day, 30 years later.

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "son if it was up to me"
Went down to see my V.A. man
He said "son don't you understand now"
Had a brother at Khe Sahn fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there he's all gone
He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now
Down in the shadow of penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run ain't got nowhere to go
Born in the U.S.A.

Some people still don't get it -- just like this guy, 28 years ago.
They don't own the troops. they don't own patriotism and they don't own the USA, no matter what the likes of George Will said in 1984. "I have not got a clue about Springsteen's politics, if any, but flags get waved at his concerts while he sings songs about hard times. He is no whiner, and the recitation of closed factories and other problems always seems punctuated by a grand, cheerful affirmation: 'Born in the U.S.A.!'"

ETA at this late hour (3:50 PM) : I'm telling you, there is a group of people that I do not see bitching about this concert: VETERANS. Not one veteran group has come out against the concert of the performers.

Raine

Conservatives don't own patriotism
Conservatives don't own the flag
Supporting the troops is not necessarily the same thing as supporting the military

Morning, all. Blog for sale- i'm in the field with the troop this weekend.

In the 'how messed up is this?' File, the Mass ANG is doing a photo shoot today for a military magazine. A two-shipper of F-15s is going to fly over some historic sites with a photo plane. It's been on the news for days, under 'Don't Panic'.

I remember when I could look at a fighter jet and think 'cool', instead of running for the tevee to see what happened now...

Good morning, bloggers!!!

The Fox News talking heads are showing themselves to be as dim as a burnt out bulb shoved up Rupert Murdoch's hindquarters after he, the bulb, and a space probe have been propelled into a black hole. (However, I can think of a better use of warp drive than tossing Rupert Murdoch in a black hole, which would be cruel and redundant.)

The song "Fortunate Son" is not anti-patriotic. Rather, it condemns those who use position and patriotism to escape out of our responsibilities as citizens. SImilarly, "Born in the U.S.A." tells a story of how some veteran's went to war, lost loved ones and found that the country had problems in employment and other areas.

Patriotism is not about waving the flag, and proclaiming loyalty to any institution or to war. Rather, it is celebrating what is good in a nation while having the wisdom to identify problems and the courage to correct them. I see neither patriotism, wisdom or courage in the the remarks of the Faux Noise talking heads but rather their opposite.

Therefore, I dedicate the following song, particularly the lyrics, to the Faux Nausea pundits and their allies:

Good morning.
My brain hurts.
I've been running tests the past few days and the ones I ran this morning are totally not what I expected. It's known that if have noise issues you want to use shielded cable. So while I expected super-duper double shielded network cable to perform better than unshielded, I was floored when just plain single shielded cable outperformed the super-duper stuff. The joys of the RF emissions world.....

Rafael Cruz as Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Space (between his ears) & Derp Science? Shoot me.....

Somedays I almost want to say they should have let the 3rd plane go on to its target. Almost.

He sold 359 bucks worth of products to a woman, who by her own admission who is bi-polar who says she only had 189 bucks in her checking account. If, indeed she's bi-polar, sell something to person who is in their manic phase strikes me as wrong. Opinions.

It is indeed. Senator Warren was able to help many candidates -- especially those who ran on Democratic values and identified with policies that worked on behalf of Americans. She has a keen understanding of this political moment and how to reach the voters.

If the Progressive Caucus, the largest in the Democratic Party, stands with her it will make a difference.

The Blue Dogs have failed. They have failed to elect candidates and failed to make as much of a difference in the lives of most Americans as they should. I have not abandoned hope.

Then if true, this is very disturbing.

We may need a real Progressive/Liberal/Socialist like Warren or Sanders (don't know if we can depend on Franken) to put holds on any of the really onerous crap the Republicans are sure to come up with if the rest of the party is going to fold like spineless babies.

The goal should be service to the people.

I am sorry to say this, but the GOP agenda will move us further into an Ayn Randian hell if it is enacted. GOP leaders met on INAUGURATION NIGHT, 2008 to vow blocking the President's agenda. With the GOP the stupid just keeps on burning. Actually, the Warren thing would contradict the stories that I had seen hinting that the Party wanted to throw its base under the bus and continue the adherence to Blue Dog Republican Lite philosophies. Since the GOP will control the Senate anyway next session anyway, I am like Fuck it, let her lose the runoff since her opponent supports Keystone anyway.

I was working on the stink, but the specific stink didn't have to do with these issues I mentioned. They are stemming from the customer not listening to important shit about how she was going to be billed.Which, since we are dealing with the top performer will be swept under the rug.

I have had issues with the guy ever since I started doing QA. I think he is arrogant as shit with the customers, he bullies people into the purchases and he is less than honest.
