I was trying to write a blog this morning but I cannot get my head wrapped around the news that the Germanwings flight was deliberately crashed.

However, what we do know about Lubitz is that the 28-year-old was from Montabaur, a town in the district seat of the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, according to a local flight club.

The LSC club, where he was a member, posted a death notice on their website naming him. “Andreas became a member of the club as a youth to fulfill his dream of flying,” it said.

"The members of the LSC Westerwald mourn Andreas and the other 149 victims of the disaster. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the victims of all nationalities."

The captain of the doomed Germanwings plane has since been named as Patrick Sonderheimer by the same flying club, which said he had completed more than 6,000 flying hours on A 320 aircraft.

These are the victims.

Morning

On WTOP, as I was getting out of the car, they were speculating on whether or not he was depressed.

I truly hope we find out more.

This made my heart a little more broken over this.

same here - if it was depression what does that tell you about the world today. We're all depressed.

The TRMS report last night on those hardened, one-way cockpit doors mandated by the FAA probably dooming that flight...

Does Germanaire fly under the auspices of the FAA?

Comment by TriSec on 03/26/2015 13:54:29
No, but the A320 is certified to fly in the US. Don't know the specifics of this particular a/c, but I heard it was 19 years old. If it flew to the US even once after the regulation came out- it had the doors.

Mornin' all..

Apparently Hacker News (the enclave of the libertard Snowden worshippers) has decided that the TSA crashed that plane and that "security theater is costing lives".

Nuts.

Found this on DU…

After 9/11 I gave up Springsteen for Yanni.

Sort of a gut thing... I just feel Yanni is my peoples. I'm an odd Yanni listener because I never listened to him before 9/11----although maybe I heard him once in an elevator.

Someone mentioned that if the pilot left, he should have been able to get back in using a code on a keypad. That is - unless the co-pilot deliberately locked it from the inside (not sure of the mechanics, whether it's a dead bolt or disabling the keypad)

saw this tweet that made me cry:

This is huge. And beautiful. Villagers around #germanwings crash site are hosting families of victims in their homes. Outpour of support.

There is a person I talk with on DU (he has family in this area) and lives in Germany for his work.

He takes this flight about once a month and is rightfully feeling like he got punched in the gut at this news. I wonder if he ever met the Pilot upon boarding.

So, adelusional, paranoid, ex-friend of mine did an end run and sent an email to Papa Trisec to denounce me, because I chanced to run into his sister-in-law while we were in Saugus last weekend.

I have half a mind to drivd to his house and cut him, but I already said it: Paranoid. Delusional.

Trisec remains on the high road.

Well, it actually looks like that to me.

If he was suicidal, it still doesn't make what he did anything less than a mass murderer.

Thing is we don't know which way that goes at this moment. If he was suicidal maybe this should spark another discussion about depression and why he thought taking all those other souls with him was a good idea. Or did something happen in the cockpit that we don't know yet, he didn't have the flight experience the pilot had, maybe it was human error. There are just too many "maybes" until I jump to the Mass Killer title.

What I've heard so far is that the pilot left the cockpit, to do something. When he got back he couldn't get back in, either it was locked on purpose or an accident. Did the pilot try to call into the co-pilot? Did the pilot try any overrides?

edit - Forgot, co-pilot activated the descent. Why? Was it to commit suicide? Or was it an accident?

No response to the tower calling him. And why? Did he panic? Or again was it suicide?

I wonder what we'd be saying had he been reciting the Lord's Prayer as they augured in? (Allahu Ackbar is inferred by many of said comments online today.)

Sounds like the comments sections expose how brainwashed and ignorant the average Foxbot is. It's impossible to have a civil discussion with someone that ignorant.

The area used to be filled with Ukraine and Romanians — Also many Yiddish people. It is very close to the original location of the 2nd Avenue deli.

Workers from the Sushi restaurant at the scene were seen falling from the building. IT appears they climbers the facade to save people above.
