It's (sadly) amazing the things politics allows a person to say or not say.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid is leaving office at the end of his term, and the gloves apparently are off. He gave an interview to CNBC, and had some colorful things to say…
He rips the Koch brothers and other high-dollar donors for tilting the political process in the wake of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision. He smacked Rush Limbaugh's credibility for the radio broadcaster's suggestion that Reid "may have been beaten up" instead of suffering injuries in an exercise accident. He continues to question why 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney never released years of income tax returns.

He calls the global warming views of Senate colleague James Inhofe "ridiculous," and describes Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell as "a lump of coal" for his views on energy and the environment. Asked to assess prospects for the 2016 Republican presidential field, Reid responded: "I don't really care. I think they're all losers."
Perhaps the best part of the interview was this:
Reid, who will retire at the end of this Congress, also accused Sen. John McCain of having a bad temper, though he said the Arizona Republican gets over it.

“It wasn’t long ago he came to me on the Senate floor, and he said, ‘What you just did, I’m going to come to the floor and kick the s--- out of you,’” Reid said.

“And I said to him, ‘John, if I were in your position I would do the same thing.’”

Another well-known politician, set to leave office at the end of his term, also has little f-cks to give:
“When I hear some, like Sen. McCain recently, suggest that our secretary of State, John Kerry, who served in the United States Senate, a Vietnam veteran, provided exemplary service to this nation is somehow less trustworthy in the interpretation of what’s in a political agreement than the Supreme Leader of Iran, that’s an indication of the degree to which partisanship has crossed all boundaries, and we’re seeing this again and again,” Obama told reporters at the Summit of the Americas in Panama City, Panama. (snip)

After citing the open letter signed by 47 GOP senators led by Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and comments by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on the administration’s authority with respect to international agreements about climate change, Obama returned his attention to McCain and Kerry.

“Now we have a senator suggesting that our secretary of State is purposefully misinterpreting the deal and giving the Supreme Leader of Iran the benefit of the doubt in the interpretation,” Obama said. “That’s not how we’re supposed to run foreign policy, regardless of who’s president or secretary of State. We can have arguments, and there are legitimate arguments to be had.”

It's clearly not just everyday-Americans getting fed up with the dysfunction of the GOP. People are killing themselves in plain sight, and people are flying gyrocopters to get the attention of these people.

And yea Krugman made the same argument a couple days ago.

I've never hid my disdain for Hillary's brand of politics. It cost her my vote, and probably thousands of votes, in the 2008 primaries. But that's the primaries. It would take some truly egregious smirking chimp-level shit for me not to support her in the general election.

I disagree. Look at the unabashed lack of experience from our tea party fresh people.

There sis something to be said about experience and mentoring younger elected officials.

Besides, At this point in Acitizens united world… with term limits, they have even less of an incentive to govern. Get elected, pass the corporate agenda, get out and makes millions of dollars.

I live in state with term limits. What they have done has made legislators in both houses overly reliant on lobbyist to write legislation for them. Since there is a Republican super-majority can you say ALEC and NRA? The other problem I have with term limits is you lose institutional memory. There is nobody around who knows the nuts and bolts of legislating because by the time they get the hang of it they are term limited out of office.

No , I must disagree. politicians, with few exceptions, only work to get re-elected. Removing that from the equation would be transformative. The sainted Senator Kennedy for one. Yes, we all loved him, but he held that seat for four decades. Warren only had a chance after he died. It's not supposed to work that way.

Presidents only get 8 years-if the lower houses can't figure out how to govern, or can't promote policy and create a legacy in that same timeframe, then it's time for somebody else.

That doesn't even begin to address the money side. Legislating was never intended to be a career. But the system is weighted so heavily in favor of the incumbent, there seems to be no way for 'ordinary' people to crack it. By the time somebody is important or influential enough to even consider an attempt..they're already latched on the corporate campaign money teat.

The only reason there is a term limit for president is due to FDR.

I have never heard of that before.

It's a win/win. Even though I know you aren't looking forward to it.
