Is this a joke?

It's not funny enough that we have Donald Trump running for president; possibly the strangest act since Andy Kauffman's death. Today we learn of a protest of sorts held in Washington DC to honor the confederate flag. Again, this was held in Washington DC. Yep.

File this under "southerner who doesn't understand these assholes". Seriously, only about a handful of whiteys came out to this rally but here message was clear, they want um, hold on. Let me do some more research.

..........

Well, okay, they just want to rebel yell and carry rebel flags and show off their rebel tattoos. Oh wait, here's a surprise, they think the "Black Lives Matter" movement is racist. Of course they do.

In interviews with ThinkProgress, members of the small crowd said they wanted the U.S. government to hear their messages: preserve Confederate symbols, and squash the Black Lives Matter movement.
“This Black Lives Matter bull is racism that the government don’t see. It’s white genocide propaganda. They’re pushing folks to shoot cops and white people,” said Ron Feathers from Elliston, Virginia. Behind him, the crowd waved flags, let out “rebel yells,” and showed off their Confederate tattoos and belt buckles.

This must be a joke. Did Andy Borowitz conceive this idea? Here is another quote from the rally organizer.

This Black Lives Matter bull is racism that the government don’t see. It’s white genocide propaganda. They’re pushing folks to shoot cops and white people,” said Ron Feathers from Elliston, Virginia. Behind him, the crowd waved flags, let out “rebel yells,” and showed off their Confederate tattoos and belt buckles.

And this
Feathers, a registered Democrat who believes President Obama is planning to declare martial law and “rule the whole world,” said he’s been organizing “flag rollings” across Virginia — where people drive together with Confederate symbols on their cars — to push back against those he feels are “taking [his] history away.”

Unprompted, Feathers offered his thoughts about why “colored people in general” have a “ghetto lifestyle.”

“It’s because their daddies ain’t in the picture. All these kids are latchkey kids. They’re not being taught the right way. And they only do things in groups. They’ve got so much hatred.”

Wow, it is indeed performance art. Give this man a grant. Oh, and change the name of grant to Lee. Give this man a Lee for his thought provoking art piece.

Velveeta, thank you for a great blog. Ironically, I read two articles that relate to your blog. One is Matt Taibbi's The Republicans are now the party of White paranoia and Reihan Salam's White Fright.

If this indeed represents what the GOP has become and is becoming, we should hope it goes the way of the Whigs soon before it causes any more damage to this country and our world.

I saw about 6 pickups yesterday in a rest area off 128. They were festooned with Gadsden and General Lee's battle flags.

Massachusetts, of course, had nothing to do with either of these things.

And in a great irony, they were at the rest area in LEXINGTON, mere yards from the Battle Road.

Tone-deaf much?
