Lift everyone up.
Author: Raine    Date: 07/06/2008 13:23:05

Good morning. I am getting a late start of things. I have been thinking lately of patriotism and what it means. One of the most patriotic things you can do is vote. It was no more than 40 years ago - 40 - that people in America were still dying for the right to perform the simple act of voting.

This weekend we celebrate our nation's independence, and we are still fighting for that very right.
http://www.high.org/img/exhibitions/rtf_mherron_188w.jpg

A patriot forces change in order to make this country better. A patriot questions the status quo. A patriot raises all Americans up. A patriot is one who loves the American experience and knows that in its flaws we can strive to be a better country by fixing what is broken.

Those who marched for civil rights are patriots; those who fight to save our Constitution are patriots. We have patriots today walking among us. They don't need a flag pin or purple bandaids. They have the courage to risk it all for our country. Our soldiers are not the only patriots, and we must stop the co-opting of patriotism for politican gains.

Patriotism was striking in Birmingham. Patriotism is sitting down and performing acts of non-violence to end injustices. Patriotism is what drives each one of us to commit random acts whatever they may be to make this country a better place -- not for a few -- but a better place that lifts every American up.

Patriotism forces the change that might never happen if no one speaks up. Someone has to be the rabble rouser; otherwise, no one will pay attention.

Go -- be a little patriotic today.

 and :peace:

Raine

Patriotism knows no manners or civility when the country or its leaders are wrong or doing wrong in our name. It is every citizens responsibility to give voice to dissent and act according to the larger picture and the larger concerns.

"My country, right or wrong," is a thing that no patriot would think of saying except in a desperate case. It is like saying, "My mother, drunk or sober."

G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936)

Looking forward to seeing the movie. Never got to see the B'Way show.

:kickcan:

Los Angeles (E! Online) - Don't pull out the polyester and platforms just yet, folks. It was just for a movie premiere.

For the first time in 22 years, all four ex-members of ABBA appeared together at the Swedish premiere of Mamma Mia!, starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth.

The Swedish pop/disco quartet—Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog—didn't perform, but throngs of fans went wild at the sight of all four together again in Stockholm.

They were joined on the red carpet and theater balcony by the stars of the soon-to-be released film. Mamma Mia! is a big-screen adaptation of the highly successful musical featuring ABBA's biggest hits, including "Dancing Queen," "Money, Money, Money" and "Take a Chance on Me."

The foursome shot to fame in the mid-'70s and performed together publicly for the last time in 1986. In 2000, they turned down $1 billion to reunite for a concert tour.

Since you were away, you probably didn't see my posting that Sirius would be doing an Abba channel for two weeks in anticipation of the movie.

Oh really? Thats great for ABBA fans..........I'm not really one of them. Their music is quite perfect for a show. Perky, catchy, everyone can sing them............. I think that's what made the show so popular, even among those of us that aren't fans.

I'm gonna go see: Get Smart. It was a toss up 'tween that and Wall-E.

Raine, I hope BobR will let us know how is campaign is coming, yes? I will do whatever I can to support him.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

Bernadette: No, I'll join this conversation on the proviso that we stop bitching about people talking about wigs, dresses, bust sizes, penises, drugs, night clubs, and bloody Abba!

Tick: Doesn't give us much to talk about then, does it?

Bernadette: I've said it before, and I'll say it again: "No more fucking ABBA!"

Bernadette: [after Felicia tells Bernadette about her ABBA story] Are you telling me this is an ABBA turd?

That should be a since the finale won't air in the US for another couple of weeks. Sci-Fi is actually running it in a 90-minute slot so it won't be edited for time.

On another note, I was driving into work and I saw another motorcycle zigging through lanes and it zoomed right by my car. It scared the shit out of me because I was having a flashback to the accident from the other day . If he's going to crash for going too fast, I just want him as far away from me as possible.

I'm off to brunch and a walk on the beach. Hopefully the tourists and inlanders have gone away. They always leave such a mess on the beach. Bastids. OY!

I love it when gramps hates bloggers specifically. It's like being on the right list. It also shows how out of touch he is. I hope he includes it in his stump speech everywhere! The Youtubes will destroy him (I think)

Hello everyone.

Well the AM transmitter is done and I had it playing on the bench downstairs. Now it's time to move it upstairs to the computer room and see how it sounds on some radios other than the little piece of junk I had.

There's a '53 Philco table model next to the computer that gets used once in a while. First thing that got blasted though it was 'Eight Miles High' and I thought that's how far it was going into orbit when I cranked up the volume. AM is capable of MUCH better sound than what you typically get from the local rundown CC trash.

damn kids with the blogging machines and 8 tracks.

He doesn't have a clue about bloggers, he doesn't even know how to use a computer, and I dare say that makes him a very dangerous person in this day and age.

Maybe VJ meant Mel Brooks. Although he seems to be busy these days converting his old movies into broadway shows.

Mel Brooks makes WAY more sense than Albert Brooks which was the first one that came to mind.

Suggestions welcome - I missed you all and want to say a big THANK YOU to Raine for taking care of the bloggie today - I love the memos I hope you all enjoyed the 4th more than my doggies did :P
