Petty, Unimaginative, Misguided Apostates

PUMA. Haven't heard of them? Not really surprised, though they claim to have 18,000,000 of them in their group. No, Velveeta did not make a typo, that's 18 million. And, depending on who you talk to the letters stand either for: Party Unity My Ass or Party United Means Action. What they claim are 18,000,000 voters who plan to get Hillary Clinton elected one way or another. What they really are, may depend from one "PUMA cub” to the next. (Oh, did I forget to mention that they use words like cub, paws, growl, prowl and other “cat” type references throughout their blogs, emails, radio shows and merchandise). My goodness, it doesn't even sound like they are of voting age with all this jargon! The only thing missing is Hello Kitty! cartoons!

Velveeta was alerted to the PUMA phenomenon by Miss Raine's video post and then, using that ingenious "google", found reference to them from this blog. If you go read this blog, you'll see why I just had to run over and see what all the fuss was about. And also why I spent two nights lurking on a silly blog, compromising valuable time which could otherwise be spent on soiree's or relaxing rose petal baths, but I digress.

Yet on and on I read their babble; they claim to be Hillary supporters whose aim is to get their Goddess Hillary into the seat of power, at times becoming so redundant and overbearing that even Velveeta becomes overwhelmed and begins to walk lock-step with the drones of Hill-bots. There are daily mailings and phone calls to super-delegates and to other PUMA's, there are meet-ups and Television interviews (on their station of choice, FOX) and preparations for rallies and preparations for Denver and trying to get Donna Brazile to resign and smearing Howard Dean and ...........whew! When does a girl have time for sipping tea on the veranda!

(Thankfully, Velveeta is snapped back to reality by something that PUMA is sorely lacking: facts). Don’t get me wrong. I have a great respect for Hillary Clinton and I would not have hesitated to vote for her had she been the nominee. So why are these supporters so damn rabid? Should we, the Edwards supporters, feel obligated to remind John that he only “suspended” his run, and form some sort of PAC to raise money, we’d be called “bad sports” or worse.

Well, these PUMA’s are a PAC now, raising money for some purpose or another, again, it seems their goals may differ. Some want Hillary to be the nominee, others just want to screw the DNC and still others are, dare I say it: Wolves in PUMA clothing. You won’t have to look far to find a Republican.

Lets take a look-see into the world of PUMA. This is from the PUMA Blog run by Republican Darragh Murphy (will get back to her ‘R’ problem) whose “cubs”/acolytes refer to her solely as Murphy.

Puma PAC is a political action committee organized in June 2008. We are registered as a non-affiliated Political Action Committee (PAC) with the Federal Election Commission and have organized as a 527 Organization with the Internal Revenue Service. This is our official website and blog. You may know that there is another, more defiant meaning for the acronym P.U.M.A. and that many of us are motivated by a deep disgust with and distrust of the DNC leadership. There will be no unity in the Democratic party until the voices of the 18 million voters who support Hillary Clinton are heard and heeded. Until the voices of Pumas are once again listened to by the leadership of the Democratic party, we will be guided by that defiance. We will treat insult with uprightness and will meet disdain with disdain. We will not be bullied, brainwashed, or bossed into falling in line.

Does this not sound a tad threatening? I thought the Democratic party was more about the individual than the group? This is what has made us so welcoming and diverse. (And consequently the harder to agree with each other on where and what to focus our energies on). This sounds more like, well, um, Republicans! “Until the voices of Pumas are once again listened to by the leadership of the Democratic party, we will be guided by that defiance.” Excuse me? There are only 18 Million of you (allegedly) and the rest of us, the majority, are supposed to let you railroad us into selecting your choice?

The outset of the problem here is they have divided the Democratic Party in half. Those that support(ed) Hillary and those that support Obama. They ignore those, including myself, that supported Edwards, Richardson, Kucinich, Dodd, Biden, and yes, even those two that supported Gravel.

Hillary was treated unfairly? Ask Dennis Kucinich if he thinks Hillary got the shaft! My God, they wouldn’t even ask him serious questions in the debates, unless you’re counting those UFO questions as “serious”.

Obama was not my choice. Kerry was not my choice in 2004. Gore was not my choice in 2000. But I stuck with my party because I believed in their basic principles and I voted for (or tried to vote for) Gore and Kerry.

On the other hand, political contribution records show that “Murphy” supported John McCain in 2000, so we’ll assume that she stayed with her party and in 2000 voted for..........well, quite the opposite of Hillary Clinton!

But lets hear from some of the cubs and what they have to say on their blog. I’ll leave out any personal references even though they are anonymous - despite the fact that the PUMA group would not give the same courtesy. On the blog anyone who crosses them is promptly outed and slimed. Velveeta awaits the same fate.

Are they Republicans, expanding Rush's "Operation Chaos" to new extremes? You be the Judge. Here's a sampler of some of the milder postings:

Do you know where I can get a bumper sticker that says Dem’s for McCain, or Hillary for McCain, or something like that? I forget where I saw them.

The left is going nuclear over the New Yorker cover! HILLarious!

The “left”? Whoops, your “right” is showing!

Gonna sign off now and listen to fox talk about the biased media coverage. Hope that they mention that it started with HRC long before McCain. Oooh…[FOXnews saying] “there’s no question that the networks are compeltely in Barack Obama’s camp.” I’m liking it! [sic]

Um, okay. A “Democrat”, a progressive, is going to tune into FOX news to hear them talk about “biased media coverage”. Someone please alert Velveeta when that actually happens. I‘ll be checking to see if there‘s ice skating in Hell when it does.

We are just sick with the disgusting bias of our current democratic party…WHAT A JOKE!!!!!! WE WILL NEVER, NEVER, NEVER VOTE FOR BO…..Not a chance in Hell……If Hillary is not the one running against McCain then I and my family and friends will be voting for McCain… for the primary reason to prevent BO from ever becomming President…That’s a Joke in itself [sic]

I’m an Independent as well and would rather vote for him [McCain] than Obama just to teach the DNC a lesson in true democracy. We The People rule, not them.

And you casting your anonymous ballot for John McCain is going to teach the DNC a lesson, how?

Sigh. I could go on and on, but why?

My take on this group is that they are a combination of operatives, nuts and naiveté’s who don’t let small details like facts stand in the way of their mission. For some its the love of Hillary. (I tread into dangerous territory here, but I can’t stop the feeling that some of them like Hillary a tad too much, if you get what I’m saying). For others its sheer racism. And for others its simply love of their party: Republican.

Are there some genuine disenfranchised Hillary supporters? Absolutely, yes! And they have every right to be angry for their votes not counting in Florida and Michigan.

But again, those pesky “facts” keep popping up. Did Hillary say that she would abide by the rules set by the DNC? Yep. So, be mad that Hillary changed her mind (dare I say flip flopped) about it. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater and screw-over the entire country, just because your state tried to circumvent the rules!

Here’s a few other facts which I have not heard one peep out of PUMA PAC (apologies to them if I missed it, but I don’t believe I have):

Nowhere have I seen anyone get upset over John McCain’s joke about a woman being raped by an ape. What kind of feminist would not be angered over that?

Never have I heard one mention of the fear that Roe v. Wade could be overturned by one single McCain SCOTUS appointment. What kind of mother would want that for her daughter?

Never once have I seen them concerned about remaining in this illegal occupation in Iraq for, as McCain once implied “100 years or more”. Where is the anger?

They are angry that Obama voted for FISA, yet fail to mention that he voted to strip the immunity as he’d promised (The Dodd Amendment). A vote that Clinton didn’t even bother to show up for! (Ted Kennedy, on the other hand, did manage to show up and vote for it, post brain surgery).

And one fact that seems overlooked. If these are indeed 18 Million HRC supporters, couldn’t they easily retire Hillary’s debt by only each donating a mere $1.25 or so? Seems like a small amount, the cost of a New York Times, for an out of state progressive. Ahem.

And as for those legitimate Hillary supporters who’ve joined this PAC because they sincerely want to see Clinton become the nominee? Well, it seems they have found true “pumas”, Rove-like predators, that have them in their teeth and claws and gotten them to do their bidding: GETTING A REPUBLICAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE AGAIN, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

Good Morning!

(Let her in is on the last thread)

Great post, I can't take the PUMA's and DINOS seriously.

Anger on left: Obama shifts to the center

Activists' choices

Barbara O'Connor, a longtime observer of California politics and a Democrat, said Democratic groups are coming around to Obama, including feminist activists who backed Hillary Clinton.

"All those bloggers from California - where are they going to go, vote for McCain?" asked O'Connor, who heads the Institute for the Study of Politics and the Media at California State University-Sacramento.

O'Connor points to a Field Poll, released Wednesday, that shows Obama with a 24-point lead in the state, and the backing of 80 percent of Clinton supporters (8 percent favored McCain). Three times as many Obama voters (51 percent) as McCain voters (17 percent) said they were "very enthusiastic" about their candidate.

As of June, there has been no drop-off in donations. The Obama campaign took in $52 million last month.

I say let the hill shills, PUMA's and whomsoever vote for McCain - They are not democrats or progresssives.

Good morning velveeta!

As far as the only PUMA I've heard, on Stephanie's show (Adela?, or something like that) the first time I heard her I thought "Operation Chaos" and when she started spewing the PUMA crap I felt that my first impression was correct.

Yup, even with the $ as worthless as it is - just $1 from each of those 18 MILLION would retire a significant amount of Hillary's debt.

They've got about as much brains as Peter Puma - "oh give me a whole lotta lumps"

Morning capt

Another day at work, another waiting 10 minutes to get 3 good pieces of paper out of the printer after clearing 3 paper jams.

Wife went to "Despison Tireless" (thanks Mama) yesterday under the guise of getting ME a new phone, well of course it was to get HER a new phone and oh by the way I got one as well. Dunno if I like it yet, the new LG does have a better camera, it handles voice commands better and the internal keyboard will make texting easier, but it won't work as a handsfree with my TomTom like my old Motorola phone did. I did figure out last night how to get my own ringtones into it so it now has the Pink Panther theme. I'll be working on finding a proper LSoC ringtone maybe tonight. ;)

Miserably humid outside today - 65 degrees 40% humidity inside

I have never had a cell phone - we have T-Mobile for Joy.

I always thought T-mobile should have an "A" named service so we could get T&A!

Have had a cell phone since the old RadioShack bag phone days, before that wife and I used to talk to each other via ham radio in the cars - of course that was nowhere near as private, but in other ways it was better because friends would join in and it became a daily thing for the commute to have a group chatting. The coming of the cell phone has pretty much killed that. :(

Oh, I'll happily take the OT when it's offered. Car needs a new O2 sensor.....

Next week is the annual family "Birthday Bash". Instead of having birthday parties for the family rugrats all year, we all go to an amusement park for a weekend. It's Six Flags New England next week. Since we don't have kids I'm pretty much the videographer. I promise not to get decapitated by the Batman coaster.

Ah yes, the PUMAs. I've checked in and out on the H-is-44 site a few times, and it seems like the breakdown there is about 50% Farkers who are just acting sincere in order to stir the pudding, about 40% who are Republicans still desperately hoping to give Rush his dream of a riot in Denver, and the remaining 10% being true believers who haven't realized that the party's over, the lights are out, the hosts have gone to bed, and Richard Marx is playing on the stereo.

BTW, here's the Pete Puma cartoon; the tea begins about the 3:00 mark.

I hope McCain gets all red faced in a debate and starts blubbering - or nods off - either one will be stellar!

One thing people don't speak of? We could justify deficit spending if it is for infrastructure, solar, wind, getting off oil will PAY a dividend and we have no choice.

The idea that deficit spending for insane military blunders is somehow comparable to lending ourselves money to help our country is like comparing apples to atom bombs.

Actually, they have. There have been several DVD collections released as The Looney Tunes Golden Collection

When Warner Bros. regained the TV rights to all the cartoons, they shifted them from Cartoon Network to Boomerang and now Boomerang doesn't even run them anymore although they run some of the crappy H-B cartoons from the 80's. They had the marathon in June when they used to run nearly every Bugs Bunny cartoon made (they removed the ones with the racial stereotypes).

Another "loverly" point of contention that I have with this ad is that the first four letters in the still below spell out the name "Ba'al", which was the Old Testament god of the Philistines. A nice little sleazy subliminal message that 1) reminds evangelicals that Obama might do something rash like really work towards a solution to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, and 2) pokes fun at Democrats for their supposed Messiah-worship regarding Barack (as if the last eight years of Bush-fluffing never happened).

Looking at the ad, i'd say it's much worse in the fact that it's distorting Obama's positions, by pulling quotes out of Time and context. The fact is, those letters aren't going to put anything into peoples minds, because it's too abstract, and people may actually get confused because of the extra T B a before what people are seeing as the secret message...

You compare this to Bush meeting with the troops and the difference is striking. With Obama, you get the impression he is genuinely interested in the soldiers; with Bush, you get the impression he feels he is doing the soldiers a favor just by being there.

Obama is there to see the troops, and Bush is there so the troops can see him.

Subliminal Advertising Experiment.

What BobR said!

Amazing stuff!

I wonder if anybody ever thought to do that kind of a thing through the M$M?

I hope not, that would be mass manipulation on a scale that could effect elections and the direction of our country as a whole. It could sell us on poor politicians and unjust and illegal wars? (55 million voted for Bush a second time? really?)

I hope someone is checking for that. The only real problem is if the subliminal message is effectively subliminal no one will ever see it. UGH!

Comment by capt on 07/20/2008 18:01:19
I imagine with a trillion dollar war at stake someone stands to make enough to pour a few hundred million into conditioning the message, using specific images and language to make some people think they are thinking for themselves when they are being lead like a herd of lemmings over a cliff by voting against their own self interests. This is what I think Fox news (and others) have been doing for years.

If a certain outcome can be set up so easily why wouldn't GE, CNN, Fox, etc. pay for it? When the corporate interests are always profits what would stop them from doing so, ethics?

Actually, they have. There have been several DVD collections released as The Looney Tunes Golden Collection

When Warner Bros. regained the TV rights to all the cartoons, they shifted them from Cartoon Network to Boomerang and now Boomerang doesn't even run them anymore although they run some of the crappy H-B cartoons from the 80's. They had the marathon in June when they used to run nearly every Bugs Bunny cartoon made (they removed the ones with the racial stereotypes).

Thanks, looks like they have some older ones now. For awhile you couldn't find anything older than 1960 or so.

Just in time for Velveeta's Birthday.

OMG, he REALLY IS an elitist!!

So what's the record? As a high school student, Obama's first job was at a Baskin-Robbins ice cream store. He also has mentioned he worked construction. And we know about the famous summer job between his second and third years of law school at Sidley Austin in Chicago, where he met Michelle, who was already at the firm. The summer before, Obama worked at Hopkins & Sutter, a law firm in Chicago.

Here's what we know for the first time, with information passed on from the Obama campaign in response to my inquiries: As a college student at Occidental in Southern California, Obama returned home to Hawaii the summer after freshman year to sell island trinkets in a gift shop. Obama also had a summertime job at a deli counter in Hawaii -- making sandwiches.

Once in New York to attend Columbia, one summer Obama worked for a private company holding a contract to process health records of either police or firefighters; I'm not sure exactly what he did.

During one school year at Columbia, Obama was a telemarketer in midtown Manhattan selling New York Times subscriptions over the phone, wearing a headset. He did not like the job because "he worried that some of the people he called couldn't really afford the subscription."

Comment by Shane-O on 07/20/2008 19:27:08
It is not the responsibility of late night shows to be fair or balanced. They are not journalists. The late-night shows are meant to entertain and as such, whatever their audiences find funny (within the boundaries of pertinent broadcasting laws) is fair game.

As the late night shows, and almost all shows (including Fox News) are based on making money, if people do not like their jokes, they can simply stop watching. As so many pundits on Fox News often suggest: Let the free market decide!

I think it was caught by a non-righty. I think it is intended to associate the image of Barack with Al Q and maybe cemetary? Not likely intended to influence thinkers more to "cement" the association of Barack and Al Q in the heads of that select group that are also unsure of his religion and harbor doubts about his being a secret Muslim or even a terrorist?

Some how That show just seems to depressing, from what i understand is every week you have a family (or person...orwhatever) hiding from people that want to kill them, and every week the stars try and stop that family from getting killed. Fantastic Planet is a French sci-fi animation (1973) directed by Rene Laloux. Humans are called “Oms” and, newly imported, are kept as pets for giant blue humanoid aliens called “Traags”. I had to watch it twice because it’s short and incredibly beautiful. The sound design is unique and the environment of the film is incredibly imaginative, with a wide array of surreal creatures and plants.

(in eight parts)

We watched this film with a fair dose of psychoactives. It was a trip then, still is.

Excellent Post Velveeta,

I am afraid I know this species of which you speak (i.e. PUMAs). They can be found far and wide all over the Internets, although, like you, I suspect that many of them are nothing more than spoilers from the GOP camp masquerading as true blue Dems. Anyway, I'm back tonight from a fabu trip to Oregon (both Portland & the Coast - from Pacific City to Seaside) and will post photos as soon as they are available. If anyone on this blog has a penchant for vintage clothes - I must recommend "Garbo's" in Wheeler, Oregon. Not merely because my sister is the sole proprietor of the joint, but because she has some amazing SH*T - I am encouraging her to get a web site up and running. There are markets to be tapped. Anyone in the market for a fabulous MuuMuu or a 70s leisure suit?

Hope everybody on the blog is well and here's wishing you all a great week ahead :P

Cheers,

mfaye

:peace: &

mFaye!

Glad you are back safe and sound.
