Its been a rough week and not likely to get any better for a while. Feeling like this is a puppies and kittens kind of day.

Pam Bondi is getting a job in Cheetolini's Whitehouse.

See how he rewards people who drop investigations by giving them a bribe an illegal campaign contribution?

Scoop, this diary is really kind of hyperbolic. It also shows that the author isn't that familiar with the Foreign Service and how embassies work. The career staff is perfectly capable of running things without an ambassador for leadership. The day-to-day stuff and if there is no ambassador, is handled by the deputy chief of mission and the chief of staff. The DCM acts as the ambassador when they aren't there. This is will be the senior member of the diplomatic staff. The chief of staff is the person in charge of the day-to-day of running the embassy.

With that said, yeah this is a total dick cheese move on the part of PEOTUS. Also, the first paragraph is a tasteful display of and education in the liberal arts.

Morning, comrades.

Off for the day - was at the Mount this morning for another 6 month checkup. Better get that done while I still have insurance.

Almost there - my five year anniversary is this June, and I see the ongologist again in July, at which point we shall evaluate my future monitoring needs.

I'm off to fly solo for a Rogue One matinee in a while.

Yeah most of the staffers are career diplomatic & military/intel folk and will be there regardless of who the President or the ambassador is. Are there other political appointees besides the ambassador tho, 'cuz I'm sure this kind of ultimatum targets them as well (we know the goal here - they want to erase any shred of Obama's legacy)

Of course, depending how things go all those career staffers could take a walk.

Yep, he introduced that the same day this happened. I think Marshall feels threatened. He's up for re-election this year, in the past he has only won by a tiny margins. Hoping this year we get him out.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

I have some good news in that my cousin Kevin is recuperating after his lung cancer surgery. He is still weak and in pain, but texted me.

As for Trump's move towards the diplomatic corps, I fear that our embassies and consulates will be in more danger with less security. Trump's response will likely be to seek military action after a tragedy occurs. (I hate to say it, but I view something awful happening is very likely.)

Ohh and our other Dem candidate is Mansimran Kahlon So we have our first transgender woman and our first Sikh, I'm sure they will be the first of many we will have. Hope they stick around, for some reason we have people drop in and out on the Dem side, its frustrating.

I hope so, really hard. These two are from the southern end of the district instead of around Leesburg. We are an odd shape district and really don't mesh up well. You'd think we would but the Loudoun part is very snooty and the the PW/Manassas part if rather lower/middle classes.

Not all ambassadors are political appointees. Some are career diplomats, think Joe Wilson. besides an appointed ambassador, there aren't any other political appointees that I know of.

This NYT article is interesting. .

He's an asshole just trying to disrupt people lives when there is no need to. Political appointment r not some peope do have diplomatic business to attend to.

Incoming presidents of both parties have often made exceptions to allow ambassadors to wrap up personal affairs and important diplomatic business while their successors were in the confirmation process, which can take months. Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Mr. Obama all granted extensions for a few politically appointed ambassadors.

Former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell offered particularly wide latitude to ambassadors facing family issues, said Marc Grossman, a longtime diplomat and former top State Department official who is vice chairman of the Cohen Group, a Washington consultancy.

“This was something that was important to Secretary Powell because of his own experience living and serving all over the world, so when people asked him, ‘Could I stay another couple of weeks, couple of months; my kids are finishing school,’ he was very accommodating,” Mr. Grossman said, adding that his flexibility was an “exception” to the general practice. “He was trying to, I think, send a message that family was important.”

He threatened to do that even before he was "elected". Shades of past tyrants who purged offices of everyone. Supposedly the rule that allows the government to cut wages to a dollar is going to be used to get rid of the science people who are doing things like collecting Climate Change data.
