Its come to this. Velveeta has turned into a drooling idiot. I'd always known this would eventually come to pass, but I held out hope that I'd reach such an age where I wouldn't know the difference.

Yes, dear readers, last night I stood in a small cubicle and felt as if I was Varya from Chekov's "Cherry Orchard" hearing the harp string break. Though in this case, it was not the demise of the aristocracy and the rise of the middle class; it was my small brain trying to take in more information than Our Dear Lord ever imagined.

I recently accepted a promotion at that place that pays me money - and it has already taken its toll on me. As I stood in said cubicle office and listened to an explanation of my responsibilities - there came the breaking of the harp string. I heard it as clear as day; right over the drone of "....then you look up the person's account number and enter it..........recount the money even though you counted it twice..........sort the slips of paper..........login to the ............fill out this form, and then this form..............answer the phone while counting........"

:thud:

And so my dear readers, I feel little remorse in presenting to you, today's blog, which is just short of an Open Thread. Call it: Stuff to ponder.

Another reason Priests should not really give advice on Sex:

In the reality based community, when you've got a problem, you call an expert with some skills and training to deal with it. In the rest of the world, you call a priest to blame evil spirits and do nothing for a small pile of money. How else to explain asking a wizened old Catholic priest to explain 'perversions' and STDs?

Promiscuity, as well as homosexuality and pornography, says 73 year-old Fr. Jeremy Davies, is a form of sexual perversion and can lead to demonic possession. Offering what may be an explanation for the explosion of homosexuality in recent years, Fr. Davies said, "Among the causes of homosexuality is a contagious demonic factor."

Fr. Davies continues: "Even heterosexual promiscuity is a perversion; and intercourse, which belongs in the sanctuary of married love, can become a pathway not only for disease but also for evil spirits."

From yesterday's NYT comes the story of a NOLA church that was demolished by the city after being damaged by Katrina. But, the church was not only salvageable but in the process of being restored!

The hurricane did not by itself destroy Holy Ground. Except for that one damaged corner, the building still stood, firm on its foundation. Acting on behalf of the pastor, volunteers from the Common Ground Relief group tore out the sodden drywall, leaving the wooden frame intact, ready in Mr. Adams’s opinion for restoration. The city itself rated the structure as salvageable.

Then came the second calamity, this one entirely manmade.

On Oct. 17, 2006, without having reached Mr. Adams, much less received his consent, the city issued a demolition permit for the house of God, at 2223 Lizardi Street. By the time the pastor found out a few days later what had happened, there was nothing left on the site except a patch of the front walk and a cinderblock embedded in the soil.

And lastly, I present more local government shenanigans. Kids with a sidewalk stand to sell lemonade or veggies- What is more American? Well not here:

Of course kids should be able to be kids! I think that this touches on a separate issue as well, one not mentioned in the article. Shouldn’t people have the right to sell the food that they produced on their (albeit small) piece of land? How does a roadside veggie stand devalue our neighborhoods? Especially when it is selling organic food much cheaper than one can find in the “super” grocery store. The last question is, what kind of ultra-conformist calls the mayor to complain about an “illegal” activity like this?

But Clayton Mayor Gregory Manning said he first heard of the girls’ operation this past April, after two residents called to ask if it was legal. Two months later, a police officer was sent to the stand to tell the Lewises that the girls were violating zoning regulations that prohibit commercial activities in a residential area.

The stand also violates health regulations, he said, which state that food can’t be sold without a permit.

Have a relaxing Sunday everyone!

Heya Velveeta,

I can relate to how you are feeling today. Ever since last night my head has felt very strange - my vision is blurry and I feel like my head is full of helium or something else that shouldn't be there - not sure what to do. I was planning on going on a float trip today with a bunch of grrrls that I have been getting to know, but I don't think I should drive. Anyway, I admire your pluck and congrats on the promotion, BTW. The blog post is fine - I says, so anyway :P

Cheers,

mfaye

Hi folks. I just feel like I could sleep for a week but I have to be at work at 2 PM today.

I guess that priest was a role model for Bobby Jindall. Building a bridge back to the 17th Century. Nothing like those Salem witch trials.

Hey VJ - thanks for the happy warm uplifting stories this morning... :sarcasm:

Morning, folks!

TriSecs still in town.

We're heading out to Framingfish this afternoon to look at some Giant Bugs at Garden in the woods....

We're off to the wilds of Franconia Notch for a few days tomorrow morning....first stop, Animal Exploitation!

I'll be back around later this evening....closing ceremonies, don't ya know? But then I won't be around until very late Wednesday pm or sometime Thursday. You know I don't listen to Momma whilst on vacation, but I'll try to watch as much of the convention as I can on the road...

:peace:

I'm working every night of the convention except Thursday so that will be the only night I will get to catch anything. And even when I am off I have no intention of watching the Republican Convention because it will make me sick.

Comment by TriSec on 08/24/2008 16:06:43
Funny thing about the conventions....

I've been listening to Obama and the rest of the Democrats for months....I'm voting for them and don't need any more convincing, I'm familiar with their platform, and I know what 'the vision' is.

The Republicans, on the other hand, I have basically dismissed and ignored since about 1988.

I'm thinking the Republican convention will be the more interesting of the two, at least from my point of view.

It will certainly get me all agitated right at bedtime, and will there be drinking games?

(Good thing we're going to NH...always a bargain at the State Liquor Stores...)

Good afternoon everyone. Raine went to bed very late last night.

So, some people are pissed that Obama sent the text message so late in the day (or, early in the morning) as the news had fairly confirmed that Biden was the nom. But despite the fact that our Bunny (Raine) called it (! the 3am phone call. Great job Raine) this shows that under an Obama/Biden administration the news will become, once more, a free press.

Would Cheney have let the news camera's camp outside his house? Hell no, he'd be in an "undisclosed" location!

Hello all.

While at my sister's yesterday I was watching three neocon talking heads on Faux (because the Sox were getting slaughtered) - William "the Bloody" Kristol, some other RW tool whose name escapes me, and Pig-boy Karl Rove with Chris Wallace acting as a conduit. All I have to say is there must be enough trash from yesterday and today to fill 3 hours of Stephanie's RWW.

This morning my wife dragged me to the new Patriot Place, which to you non-New Englanders is the new shopping complex surrounding Gillette Stadium. . I'd be interested to see how they handle traffic and parking on game days, the stores are about 50% occupied now. The new Showcase Cinema has "Deluxe Seating" where you can order the supremely over-priced movie food (and probably even more supremely over-priced booze) right from your seat and have it delivered to you.

One probably unknown feature of the new HD TiVos is that you can view YouTube videos directly. I'm not sure how well the search engine works, but by typing in "Gumby" I got the MST3K short that livingonli (I think) posted last week, in addition to the Monty Python Gumby characters. And yes, if I type in Stephanie Miller, up pops a bunch of videos, when the wife leaves for work I'll have to check this further.

He used the POW card AGAIN!

Couric asked about McCain’s answer when Politico inquired about the number of homes he and his wife, Cindy, own. McCain referred the question to his staff, who said he had at least four. Records show the number could be twice that, depending on how you count the family's properties.

“I am grateful for the fact that I have a wonderful life,” McCain said. “I spent some years without a kitchen table, without a chair, and I know what it's like to be blessed by the opportunities of this great nation. Cindy's father, who barely finished high school, went off and distinguished himself in World War II in a B-17 and came back with practically nothing and realized the American dream, and I am proud and grateful for that, and I think he is a role model to many young Americans who serve in the military and come back and succeed.
McCain is blessed with a rich father in law. I cannot believe he used the POW card again in response to Joe Biden's speech.

What a tool
