There was a lot of brewhaha yesterday over the presser with tRump senior policy adviser Stephen Miller. As can be seen in this video, he had some rather interesting things to say about immigration and the Statue of Liberty:
CNN’s Jim Acosta sparred with White House adviser Stephen Miller in a seriously heated back-and-forth over immigration.

Acosta told Miller, “What you’re proposing or what the President’s proposing here does not sound like it’s in keeping with American tradition when it comes to immigration.”

He quoted the words on the Statue of Liberty “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses” and asked Miller if he’s “trying to change what it means to be an immigrant coming into this country.”

Miller pushed back by saying the words were “added later” and things got even more heated from there.

Miller is certainly playing fast and loose with the facts there. The poem "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazrarus was donated by her to the cause in 1883, prior to the statue's dedication in 1886. It's true it wasn't actually inscribed and added until 1892 - a mere 6 years later - but it's been part of the statue's raison d'être since the beginning. Right from the start, the statue represented the welcoming of immigrants to America to Ellis Island, which also began ramping up its processing in - wait for it - 1892.

Obscured by all of this was a much uglier actual policy initiative by the tRump "Administration" - their plan to sue colleges on behalf of rejected white students over affirmative action policies!!:
Justice Department officials are planning a new project to investigate and sue universities over affirmative action admissions policies they determine discriminate against white applicants, according to a U.S. government official.

How are they going to go about doing this and with what monies? Hold on to your lunch:

The project will be based out of the department’s civil rights division, which is now looking for lawyers interested in working on “investigations and possible litigation related to intentional race-based discrimination in college and university admissions,” according to a person familiar with an internal announcement in the civil rights division.

Officials said the project will not operate out of the civil rights division’s Educational Opportunities Section, where career Justice attorneys oversee cases on universities, but instead in the front office of the division. The project was first reported Tuesday night by the New York Times.

Yes - they are planning on taking money, personnel, and resources meant to ensure smart kids who are under-privileged and historically discriminated against get the opportunity to get a college education, and using it for the exact opposite.

There have been snarky comments made about Miller needing a swastika armband. At this point, we may as well hang them on banners on the front of the White House.

I am disgusted beyond words by these KKK assholes.

Hi all. At BIDMC here in Boston with Pops today. Not expecting an immediate admit, we are meeting with the surgeon to determine a course of action. Apparently no confirmation yet on Big C, so we'll see what happens.

Trump has allowed white nationalists a place in the White House.

I am second generation native born. My father's parents were from Scotland. My maternal grandfather was a Jew in the Ukraine who spent a short time in Poland before coming to the U.S. My maternal grandmother was a Romanian Jew, whose family lost all their money in World War One. One of my best friends is first generation native born, with her family legally immigrating from Mexico where her Dad worked in the mills in Northwest Indiana.

Many people of my faith in my community view Trump as a bigot who wants to overturn decades of social progress. We feel less safe. One speaker for a program this fall said that in the 1960s, larger American society finally considered Jews to be safe enough to be accepted as white. He added that many people wondered if this was still the case.

Trump's bigotry is doing great damage to this nation. Many people are afraid. I am concerned but I will not surrender to fear or to hate. I am determined to oppose this regime's policies by peaceful means. I hate to say it, but I do not think that all of Trump's supporters share my commitment to peaceful action.

I'll try to look for the citation for this, but when he discovered white national supremacy between middle school and high school, he told his up to that point best friend they couldn't be friends any longer because the guy was Messican.
